Forgot your home Wi-Fi password and the router doesn't have a data sticker? Or you need to connect a new device, but you're too lazy to look for a piece of code? On Xiaomi Redmi Note smartphones (including Note 8/9/10/11/12 and Pro versions), there are several ways to extract the saved password from the Wi-Fi - both through standard MIUI settings and using third-party tools.
In this article, weβll look at 5 proven methods, including root-free and root-enabled options, and explain why some methods may not work on newer versions of MIUI 14/15. Importantly, if your Redmi Note isnβt rooted, some of the features will be limited β but basic solutions are still available.
We warn you in advance: since MIUI 12.5, Xiaomi has hidden direct access to Wi-Fi passwords in the system interface, so most methods will require either workarounds or installing additional utilities. But donβt worry β we have detailed each step, including screenshots and alternatives.
1. Standard method via MIUI settings (not working on all versions)
The easiest method is to look up the password directly from the Wi-Fi menu, but it only works on older versions of MIUI (up to 12 inclusive) or on some firmware for the global version. If you have a Redmi Note 8/9 with fresh firmware, chances are that this item will be hidden.
Instructions:
- Open the Settings. β Wi-Fi.
- Find your network in the list of saved and tap it.
- If you have the option to show password or Share (with icon) QR-code, press it.
- The system can request PIN-code, fingerprint or pattern lock for confirmation.
If you don't have a Show Password, go to the following methods: on MIUI 13/14, this method is usually blocked by default.
2. Through QR-Wi-Fi network code (without root)
Even if the direct option is hidden, in MIUI The generation function remains QR-It's a password that you can extract from it with a third-party scanner, and it works on all versions, including the latest updates.
How to do this:
- π± Open the Settings. β Wi-Fi and tap on your network.
- π Choose Share (or Share) and it will appear. QR-code.
- πΈ Take a picture of it or scan it with another phone with a scanner app (e.g., a scanner, QR & Barcode Scanner by Gamma Play).
- π The scan results will have a line. WPA:... or P:... that is the password.
If QR-The code is not scanned, try using online services like ZXing Decoder β upload the image and get the network data.
π‘
Save it. QR-Network code is like an image in a gallery β so you can quickly connect new devices without entering a password.
3. Use of a file manager (root or ADB required)
On phones with root rights or unlocked bootloader, you can manually extract the password from the system file. wpa_supplicant.conf. This file stores all saved networks and their passwords in plain view.
Step-by-step:
- Install a file manager with root access (such as Root Explorer or FX File Explorer).
- Go to /data/misc/wifi/WifiConfigStore/ or (on newer MIUI versions): /data/vendor/wifi/WifiConfigStore/
- Find the file. WifiConfigStore.xml or wpa_supplicant.conf Open it with a text editor.
- Look for blocks of the type: network={ ssid="Name network" psk="password" key_mgmt=WPA-PSK }
If you donβt have root but an unlocked bootloader, you can use ADB:
adb pull /data/misc/wifi/WifiConfigStore/WifiConfigStore.xmlβ οΈ Attention: MIUI 14+ The path to the file may be different, and access without root is often blocked. If the folder is empty, try alternative methods.
What to do if the WifiConfigStore.xml file is encrypted?
4. Wi-Fi password viewing applications
Google Play has utilities that can extract saved passwords β but most require root. We tested several options and selected those that work on the Xiaomi Redmi Note without additional rights (or with minimal requirements).
| Annex | Need root? | Works on MIUI 14? | Reference |
|---|---|---|---|
| WiFi Password Viewer | β Yes. | β Yes. | Download |
| WiFi Key Recovery | β No (but you need super-user rights) | β οΈ Partially. | Download |
| Network Info II | β No. | β Yes, only for the current network) | Download |
For rootless applications (e.g. Network Info II):
- π² Install the utility and open it.
- π Go to the Wi-Fi tab.
- π Find your network β some apps show a password in the Password field or PSK.
β οΈ Note: apps without root often only show passwords for the current connected network, and all saved networks still require superuser rights to view.
5. Router reset as a last resort
If none of the methods worked and the router is physically accessible, you can reset it to factory settings, which will delete all user data, including the Wi-Fi password, but allow you to set a new one.
How to reset your router:
- Find the Reset button on the back of the router (usually recessed in the case).
- Take a paperclip or toothpick, press and hold the button for 10-15 seconds until the indicators start flashing.
- After restarting, connect to the router network (usually called by model, for example). TP-Link_1234) passwordless.
- Open the browser, enter 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 and reconfigure the router.
Standard entry data after discharge:
- π Login: admin
- π Password: Admin or blank (depending on the model).
π‘
Resetting a router is a radical method that should only be used if other methods are not available, and after resetting, you will have to reconfigure all the parameters of the network, including the Wi-Fi name and password.
Frequent problems and solutions
Not all methods work equally well on different Redmi Note models, and here are the typical challenges and how to get around them:
- π« No "Show Password" item in MIUI: This is normal for new versions. Use the method with QR-code-in-law.
- π File. wpa_supplicant.conf blank: MIUI 13+ Passwords are stored in encrypted form. Try WiFi Password Viewer with root.
- π΅ Applications do not see saved networks: Check if location and storage rights for the utility are included.
- π After resetting the router, the settings page does not open: Try another browser or clear the cache. IP-The address for the entrance may be different (see the router sticker).
If your Xiaomi Redmi Note is running Android 12/13 with MIUI 14, the chances of extracting a password without root are minimal, in which case it is easier to reset the router or contact the provider for login data.
