Modern Xiaomi TVs (Mi TV 4/5, Mi TV Q, Redmi Smart TV, and others) require a stable Internet connection for Smart TV, streaming services, and firmware updates. However, many users face problems: TV does not see the network, constantly asks for a password or does not respond to settings. In this article, all the current ways of connecting (including hidden features) and debunking errors with specific solutions.
We tested the instructions on the 2020-2026 models and took into account the features of the latest versions of MIUI TV. If your TV is released earlier, check the firmware version in the Settings menu → TV: for stable Wi-Fi operation, software is required at least 2.0.185.
1. Connect via the settings menu (main method)
This is the easiest and most recommended method, which works on 90% of Xiaomi models. you only need a remote control and data from your Wi-Fi network.
Steps:
- 📺 Turn on the TV and press the Settings button on the remote.
- 🌐 Go to the section Network and Internet → Wi-Fi.
- 🔍 Wait for the TV to find the available networks. If the list is empty, click Update (round arrow).
- 🔑 Select your network, enter your password (registration is important!) and confirm.
If after entering the password there is an error "I failed to connect" - try:
- 🔄 Reboot the router (pull out the plug for 30 seconds).
- 📱 Make sure that the router is not on mode 802.11r (Fast Transition – it conflicts with Xiaomi firmware TV past 2022.

2. WPS connection (without entering a password)
The Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) feature allows you to connect your TV to the network without entering a password — just press a button on the router.
- 📶 Your router supports WPS (Usually there is a button with a lock or a sign WPS).
- 🔒 The router's settings are not disabled WPS-regime.
- 📺 Xiaomi TV released not earlier than 2019 (on older models) WPS may be absent).
Instructions:
- On the TV, go to Settings → Network and Internet → Wi-Fi.

If Xiaomi TV persists in not connecting to Wi-Fi, a wired connection will be the temporary solution.

⚠️ Attention: On some firmware MIUI TV When you connect to the cable, you automatically shut down Wi-Fi. To get the wireless back on, you have to temporarily disconnect Ethernet or reset your network settings.

4. Connect without remote control (using a smartphone or keys on TV)
If the remote is lost or broken, you can connect Xiaomi TV to Wi-Fi in alternative ways.
Method 1: Mi Remote (for Android/iOS)
- 📱 Install Mi Remote from Google Play or App Store.
- 🔗 Connect your smartphone and TV to the same Wi-Fi network (yes, that’s a paradox – but you can use a mobile hotspot).
- 🎛️ In the app, select Add Device → Television → Xiaomi.

Method 2: Buttons on the TV body
Most Xiaomi models have physical buttons (usually under the logo or side).
