Wirelessly connecting a Samsung smartphone to a Xiaomi TV opens up a lot of possibilities, from streaming photos to the big screen to watching movies without unnecessary wires. However, many users face compatibility problems โ devices of different brands do not always โunderstandโ each other the first time. In this article, we will discuss all working ways of connecting over Wi-Fi, including setting up Smart View, Miracast and DLNA, and give specific solutions for typical errors like โno signalโ or โconnection is interruptedโ.
The Samsung-Xiaomi pair has its own wireless protocols, such as Samsungโs Smart View (based on Miracast), and Xiaomiโs new TVs integrate Mi Share and Google Cast. That means thereโs no one-size-fits-all method, so weโll have to test the options. Weโve tested the connection on Samsungโs Galaxy S23 Ultra, Galaxy A54 and Xiaomiโs Mi TV Q2 55, Redmi Smart TV X50, so the instructions are relevant for most devices in 2020-2026.
Important: If your Xiaomi TV is released before 2019, some features (like Google Cast) may be missing, in which case you will need to update your firmware or use alternative methods, which we will also describe.
1. Device Preparation: What to Check Before Connecting
Before you start setting up, make sure that both devices meet the minimum requirements:
- ๐ฑ Samsung Phone: Android 8.0 and higher (for Smart View), Android 10+ For Google Cast, on models up to Galaxy. S8 You may need to install Samsung SmartThings.
- ๐บ Xiaomi TV: firmware MIUI TV no older than 2021. Check the settings โ On TV. โ Software version. If the version is lower 1.7.XX, upgrade the system.
- ๐ Wi-Fi: both devices must be connected to the same network (2.4 GHz or 5 GHz is not essential, but 5 GHz gives less latency). VPN can block the broadcast.
- ๐ Battery charge: phone must have at least 30% charge. At levels below 15%, Samsung automatically disables wireless broadcasting features.
If the TV is connected to the router via cable (Ethernet), and the phone is connected via Wi-Fi, this is not a hindrance. The main thing is that both devices are on the same local network. IP-addresses (e.g. 192.168.1.100 and 192.168.1.101).
โ ๏ธ Note: if you are using a dual-band router (with a split into two) 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, make sure both devices are connected to the same frequency. MyWiFi_5G, MyWiFi TV is different networks and the broadcast will not work.
| Problem. | Reason. | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| TV not visible on the list of devices | Different Wi-Fi networks | Connect both devices to the same network |
| Connection is interrupted in 10-20 seconds | Weak Wi-Fi signal | Move your router closer or use 5GHz |
| No sound when broadcasting | In the settings of the TV turned off HDMI-CEC | Enable Settings โ System โ HDMI-CEC |
| Image delay (lag) | Network overload | Disconnect other devices from Wi-Fi |
2. Method 1: Smart View (in-built-in Samsung feature)
Smart View is Samsungโs proprietary wireless screen broadcasting technology, powered by the Miracast protocol, which is supported by most Xiaomi TVs but requires pre-configuration on both devices.
Instructions for the telephone:
- Open the Quick Settings panel (swipe down from the top edge of the screen).
- Find the Smart View icon (or Screen Mirroring). If it's not there, click on it. โฎ โ Edit โ Smart View.
- Slip the icon and wait for the available devices to be found.
- Select your Xiaomi TV from the list. If it's not, update the list or reboot both devices.
Instructions for Xiaomi TV:
- Go to Settings โ Connection and Sharing โ Screen Mirror (or Miracast).
- Activate the option to Allow Connection.
- If a confirmation request appears, select Allow.
Once successfully connected, the phone screen will be duplicated on the TV, with a latency of 100 to 200 milliseconds, which is noticeable when watching videos, but not critical for photos or presentations.
โ ๏ธ Note: on some Xiaomi models (e.g. Mi) TV 4A) Miracast can be disabled by default. To activate it, go to Settings. โ Additionally. โ Wireless display and switch on the switch.
Connected to a single Wi-Fi network|Smart View is enabled on your phone|Miracast activated on TV|Telephone and TV rebooted (if no devices are visible)|Disabled. VPN proxy-->
3. Method 2: Google Cast (for Xiaomi models with Android TV)
If your Xiaomi TV is powered by Android TV (such as Mi TV Q1E or Redmi Smart TV X65), you can use Google Cast, a technology similar to Chromecast, which allows you to broadcast not the entire screen, but only individual applications (YouTube, Netflix, browser).
How to connect:
- On your TV, go to Settings โ Google โ Devices and Sharing โ Transfer settings.
- Enable the option of Multimedia Transfer.
- On your Samsung phone, open an app that supports Cast (like YouTube or Google Photos).
- Slip on the transmission icon (usually in the upper right corner) and select your TV.
The advantage of this method is a lower latency (about 50-100 ms) compared to Smart View, since it is not the screen but the data stream. However, not all applications support Cast. For example, TikTok or Instagram can not broadcast content to the TV.
If the Cast icon does not appear:
- ๐ Update the application to the latest version.
- ๐ฑ Check that the phone is Bluetooth enabled (sometimes required for initial setup).
- ๐ Make sure that the TV does not activate Guest Mode in the Wi-Fi settings.
๐ก
If the streaming through Google Cast is interrupted, try in the router settings to disable the Band Steering function (automatic switching between 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz).
4. Method 3: DLNA/UPnP for transferring media files
If you only need to stream photos, videos, or music (without screen duplication), DLNA will work on most Xiaomi devices and does not require special applications on a Samsung phone.
How to set up:
- On Xiaomi TV, open the Media Player (or Gallery) app.
- Select Local Network or DLNA.
- On a Samsung phone, open a Gallery or Music, select a file and tap Share โ Transmit to the device.
- In the list of devices, select your TV.
For convenience, you can use third-party applications, such as BubbleUPnP (available on Google Play).
- ๐ต Broadcast music from phone to TV without loss of quality.
- ๐ฝ๏ธ Play video in original resolution (without compression, as in Smart View).
- ๐ Manage playback directly from the phone (pause, rewind).
Important: DLNA does not support live screen broadcasting (for example, for games or video calls).
5 Problem Solving: What to Do When the Connection Fails
Even when you set it up properly, you can get errors, and here are the most common problems and ways to fix them:
| Mistake. | Possible cause | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| โI couldnโt connect to the device.โ | Blocking the router firewall | Turn off firewall in router settings or add devices in exceptions |
| The phone screen is not fully displayed. | Permit mismatch | On your phone in Smart View, select Fit under the screen |
| The sound comes from the phone, not the TV. | The broadcast settings have the sound turned off. | On your phone in Smart View, turn on the option to Transmit sound |
| Permanent connection breaks | Network overload | Turn off other devices from Wi-Fi or switch to 5GHz |
If the Xiaomi TV is not displayed in the list of available devices:
- Reboot both devices.
- On the TV, reset the network settings: Settings โ Network โ Reset network settings.
- Update your TV firmware to the latest version (in Settings โ About TV โ System Update).
- Try connecting via a hotspot: On your phone, turn on Modem Modem โ Wi-Fi hotspot. Connect your TV to that hotspot. Retry connecting via Smart View.
What if Miracast disappeared after the firmware update?
6. Alternative methods: if Wi-Fi does not work
If wireless connectivity is not fundamentally configured, consider alternatives:
- ๐ HDMI-Adapter: for Samsung phones with DeX support (e.g. Galaxy) S22+) adapter USB-C โ HDMI. This will give you zero latency and support. 4K@60Hz.
- ๐ถ Chromecast or Mi TV Stick: If the TV doesnโt support Miracast, plug in an external adapter (e.g. Xiaomi Mi) TV Stick and use Google Cast.
- ๐ป PC as a mediator: stream your phone screen to your computer via Samsung Flow and then from PC to TV on your PC HDMI Miracast.
For a USB-C โ HDMI adapter, we recommend models with a DisplayLink chip (such as Wavlink USB-C to HDMI). They do not require additional power and support a resolution of up to 4K.
If you choose the Mi TV Stick, consider that it only works with TVs that have an HDMI port that supports HDCP 2.2 (most Xiaomi models of 2019 and newer meet this requirement).
๐ก
For minimum delay when broadcasting games or videos, use HDMI-Wireless methods (Wi-Fi) will always have a latency of 50ms, which is critical for dynamic content.
7. Optimizing the broadcast quality: how to reduce lag and improve the picture
Even if the connection is installed, the quality of the broadcast may leave much to be desired.
- ๐ถ Use 5GHz: If your router supports dual-band Wi-Fi, switch both devices to a 5GHz network. This will reduce latency to 30โ50 ms (versus 100โ200 ms at 2.4 GHz).
- ๐ Turn off background tasks: Close all apps on your phone except what you need before broadcasting, especially messengers and cloud services.
- ๐ฎ Reduce resolution: Select Smart View settings 720p instead 1080p โ This will reduce the load on the network.
- ๐ Connect router via cable: if the TV supports Ethernet, use a wired connection to the router, and leave the phone on Wi-Fi.
To check the current delay, you can use the Game Mode Latency Test app (available on Google Play).
- Smart View (Wi-Fi 2.4 GHz): 150โ250 ms.
- Smart View (Wi-Fi 5 GHz): 80-120 ms.
- Google Cast: 50-100 ms.
- HDMI-adapter: 10-30 ms.
If the picture is โtearedโ or hanging, try:
- Reduce the bitrate of the video (in the player settings).
- Turn off the option on the TV Auto-adjust brightness (Settings โ Screen โ Brightness).
- In the router, enable QoS (Quality of Service) and prioritize Samsung and Xiaomi devices.
