Why wirelessly connecting your iPhone to Xiaomi TV isnโt always an obvious task
Modern Xiaomi TVs (Mi TV 4S/5/5X/Q1/Q2/P1/A Pro series) have many streaming features, but not all of them are compatible with Appleโs ecosystem out of the box. The problem lies in different data protocols: the iPhone defaults on AirPlay (Apple protocol), while Xiaomi traditionally focuses on Miracast and DLNA โ standards developed by the Wi-Fi Alliance and supported by most Android devices.
As a result, users are faced with two typical scenarios: either the TV simply does not see the iPhone in the list of available devices, or the connection is cut off after a few seconds with the error โfailed to connect to the device.โ The reason is often the lack of built-in support for AirPlay on Xiaomi TVs until 2022 release โ this feature was added only in firmware for Mi TV models Q2 2023 and later. However, even on older TVs there are workarounds, and we will analyze all of them, from standard solutions to little-known life hacks.
It is important to take into account hardware limitations: for example, the iPhone 6S and older do not support Miracast at the software level (no drivers in iOS), and Xiaomi TVs with an Amlogic S905 processor (models until 2020) can slow down when transmitting video in a resolution above 1080p.
Method 1: Connect via AirPlay (for Xiaomi TV 2022-2026)
If your Xiaomi TV is not released before 2022 (Q2, P1, A Pro series), then it already preinstalled the Apple AirPlay app โ it was added to the firmware after a partnership with Apple.
- On Xiaomi remote, click Menu โ Settings โ Connections and Sharing โ Apple AirPlay.
- Turn on the switch On and set the Availability option to the For All position (if you want to connect without entering a password).
- On the iPhone, swipe down from the top right corner of the screen to open Control Point, and tap the Screen Duplication icon (two rectangles one in the other).
- In the list of devices, select the name of your Xiaomi TV (e.g. MiTV-Q2-1234).
If the TV is not on the list, check:
- ๐ Both devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi network (not to the guest network or via a repeater).
- ๐ The TV has power saving turned off (it can block background connections). โ Screen and sound โ Energy conservation โ Off.
- ๐ถ Wi-Fi signal stable (if router is 2.4 GHz, try switching to 5 GHz to reduce delays).
โ ๏ธ Attention: On the TVs Xiaomi Mi TV 4S (2018โ2021) AirPlay may not work as expected due to processor limitations Cortex-A53. In this case, we recommend using alternative methods (see below).
Method 2: Using Miracast (for an iPhone with jailbreak or Android emulator)
Miracast is a wireless screen transmission standard supported by all Xiaomi TVs, but the iPhone doesn't by default. There are two workarounds:
Option A: Install emulator application (without jailbreak)
Applications like ApowerMirror or LetsView emulate Miracast through their own servers.
- Download ApowerMirror from the App Store on your iPhone and install the server part on your TV via Google Play (if you have Xiaomi TV on Android TV).
- Run the app on both devices and select Screen Mirroring.
- On the iPhone enter PIN-code that will appear on the TV screen.
Option B: Jailbreak + Miracast Tweak (for advanced users)
If you have an iPhone with a jailbreak, you can install a MiracastEnabler tweak via Cydia or Sileo.
- ๐ง Reboot your iPhone.
- ๐ฑ Open the Control Point. โ Screen duplication.
- ๐ฅ๏ธ Choose your Xiaomi TV from the list (should appear after activation of the tweak).
โ ๏ธ Warning: Jailbreak voids Apple's warranty and could lead to iOS instability. Use this method only if you're prepared for the risks.
Why Miracast doesn't work on a stock iPhone?
Method 3: Transmission via DLNA (for photos, videos, and music)
DLNA is a multimedia streaming protocol that all Xiaomi TVs support, which does not duplicate the screen, but allows you to stream individual files (video, photos, music) from your iPhone to TV.
- On Xiaomi TV, turn on DLNA: Settings โ Network โ DLNA โ On.
- Install the LocalCast, AllCast or BubbleUPnP app on your iPhone.
- In the app, select a file to transfer and specify your TV in the list of devices.
Advantages of the method:
- โ It works on all Xiaomi models. TV, including the old ones TV 3S, Mi Box).
- โ Doesn't require root or jailbreak.
- โ Supports formats MP4, MKV, JPG, MP3.
Limitations:
- โ Does not transmit the entire screen (only individual files).
- โ Possible delays in video playback 4K.
| Annex | Support for DLNA | Max, permission. | Paid/free |
|---|---|---|---|
| LocalCast | Yes. | 4K (delayed) | Free (advertising) |
| AllCast | Yes. | 1080p | Paid ($4.99) |
| BubbleUPnP | Yes. | 4K HDR | Free-to-play |
| VLC | Partially (video only) | 1080p | Free of charge. |
๐ก
If the video is slowing down when transmitting over DLNA, try converting it to H.264 with a bitrate of no higher than 10 Mbps (for example, through the HandBrake application on your computer).
Method 4: Xiaomi Smart Share app (official solution)
Xiaomi has launched its own Smart Share app for mobile streaming, and while itโs focused on Android, it can be used with iPhones via a workaround:
- Download Smart Share from the App Store (not available in all regions; if not, use TestFlight or your India account).
- On Xiaomi TV, turn on Smart Share: Settings โ Connections โ Smart Share โ On.
- In the iPhone app, select a file or screen to broadcast.
Features:
- ๐ฏ Supports 1080p@60fps flat-lag.
- ๐ It can broadcast both individual files and the entire screen (in Screen Mirroring mode).
- ๐ It only works on TVs with firmware. MIUI TV version 1.6.0 and higher.
โ ๏ธ Warning: When you first connect, Smart Share may request access to the LAN, allow it, otherwise the broadcast will be interrupted every 2-3 minutes.
Both devices in the same Wi-Fi network | Updated firmware Xiaomi TV (minimum 1.6.0) | iPhone enabled Bluetooth and Wi-Fi | Smart Share-->
Method 5: Use external adapters (if nothing works)
If the software methods don't work, you can connect your iPhone to Xiaomi TV via an external adapter.
Apple TV Adapter (Most Stable, But Expensive)
Connect your Apple TV 4K to your TV via HDMI, and then use AirPlay to duplicate the screen.
- ๐ฎ Support 4K HDR Dolby Vision and.
- ๐น๏ธ Playing Apple Arcade on the big screen.
- ๐ Minimum delays (up to 50 ms).
Miracast adapter (budget version)
Devices like Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter or ScreenBeam Mini2 plug in HDMI-It's a port of the TV and it's emulating Miracast:
- Install the adapter manufacturerโs application (e.g. ScreenBeam).
- Connect to the adapter via its own Wi-Fi network.
Cons:
- โ ๏ธ Delay up to 200 ms (not suitable for gaming).
- โ ๏ธ Maximum authorization โ 1080p@30fps.
| The device | Price (2026) | Max, permission. | Delay. |
|---|---|---|---|
| Apple TV 4K | ~15 000 โฝ | 4K@60fps | 30-50 ms |
| ScreenBeam Mini2 | ~3 500 โฝ | 1080p@30fps | 150-200 ms. |
| Microsoft Adapter | ~4 200 โฝ | 1080p@60fps | 100-150 ms. |
๐ก
Adapters are the only way to get a stable connection on Xiaomi TVs older than 5 years (until 2019), where software methods work with bugs.
Common mistakes and their solutions
Even with the right settings, the connection may not work.
Error: "I was unable to connect to the device"
Causes and solutions:
- ๐ TV and iPhone in different networks โ Connect both devices to the same Wi-Fi network (not mobile internet).
- ๐ Failure in the firmware Xiaomi TV โ Restart the TV (press the power button for 10 seconds).
- ๐ก๏ธ Router firewall blocks traffic โ Turn off the router settings AP Isolation and Firewall for local area network.
Error: "No sound when the screen is duplicated"
This is often done using Miracast or Smart Share.
- ๐ Check if the sound on the TV is turned off (Settings) โ Sound. โ Loudness).
- ๐ง Switch the sound source in the iPhone Control Point to the TV.
- ๐ Reconnect to the TV (sometimes the sound โsticksโ on the speakers of the smartphone).
Mistake: "Locks and brakes when watching video"
It's due to a lack of network bandwidth.
- ๐ถ Switch the router to 5 GHz (less busy than 2.4 GHz).
- ๐ก Reduce the broadcast resolution in the application settings (for example, with 4K before 1080p).
- ๐ Connect the TV to the router via Ethernet (if there is a port).
