The Xiaomi Mi 10 is a flagship smartphone with a powerful hardware platform, but even its owners sometimes face non-obvious features. One of them is recording phone conversations. Unlike the newer Xiaomi models, where this option is often integrated into the standard Phone app, on the Mi 10 it all depends on the version of the MIUI firmware and regional restrictions. In this article, we will discuss all the working ways of recording activation, from built-in tools to third-party solutions, as well as talk about legal aspects and optimization of sound quality.
It is important to understand that the ability to record calls on Xiaomi Mi 10 may vary depending on the version of MIUI (global, Chinese, European) and the installed application for calls. For example, in some firmware the function is hidden in deep settings, while in others it is not at all. We tested all methods on current versions of the software (2026) and collected only working solutions.
Check the built-in recording function in MIUI
Before installing third-party applications, check if call recording is available in the standard interface. On Xiaomi Mi 10 with global or European MIUI 12-14 firmware, the function may be hidden, but it can be activated through the settings of the Phone application.
Follow this path:
- Open the Phone app (the tube icon on the home screen).
- Click on the three dots in the upper right corner โ select Settings.
- Go to the Record of Conversations section (if not, see the next section).
- Activate the switch Record all calls or select Record only selected ones.
If there is no Conversation Recording section, then your version of MIUI does not support the out-of-the-box function, in which case either updating the firmware (see section below) or installing an alternative call app will help.
Update MIUI to Appear Recording Function
In some cases, call recording is missing due to an outdated firmware version. Xiaomi periodically adds or removes features depending on regional requirements. For example, in MIUI 13 for the European market, the call recording was deleted due to privacy laws, but MIUI 14 returned it in a limited form.
To update the firmware:
- ๐ฑ Go to Settings. โ The phone. โ Updating the system.
- ๐ Click Check Updates and wait for the latest version to download.
- ๐ If the update is not available, try changing the region in the Xiaomi account settings (for example, India or Russia).
- โ ๏ธ Before updating, make a backup of the data through Settings โ Additionally. โ Backup and reset.
โ ๏ธ Note: Forced region change in your Xiaomi account can result in some services being blocked (e.g. Mi Pay or Mi Cloud) and only use this method if you are prepared for the consequences.
If even after the update, the recording function does not appear, move to the next section with third-party solutions.
๐ก
Updating MIUI to the latest version is the safest way to get back the built-in call record, but it doesnโt work in all regions.
Call recording app side
If the built-in feature is not available, third-party utilities will come to the rescue, we tested 5 popular apps and selected the two most reliable for Xiaomi Mi 10:
| Annex | Support for MIUI | Recording quality | Features |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cube Call Recorder ACR | โ Complete. | ๐๏ธ High (recording from both sides) | It works without root, but requires access permissions |
| Call Recorder โ Automatic Call Recorder | โ Partial (may not record VoIP) | ๐๏ธ Average (depending on model) | Simple interface, but shows ads |
| Boldbeast Call Recorder | โ ๏ธ Requires manual tuning | ๐๏ธ Maximum (support of formats) MP3, WAV) | Paid version, but there is a trial period |
To install and configure Cube Call Recorder ACR (recommended solution):
- Download the app from Google Play.
- When you first start, give access to the Microphone, Warehouse and Call Log.
- In the application settings, select: Source of the record โ Voice call (VOIP not supported) File format โ MP3 (128 kbps quality - Conservation folder โ Choose. SD-card (if any)
- Enable Automatic Record for all or selected contacts.
โ ๏ธ Attention: Xiaomi Mi 10S MIUI 12.5+ applications may be blocked from accessing the microphone during the call. To fix this, disable Battery Optimization for the recording application in the Application settings โ Permits โ Special access.
Download and install the application |Provide all permissions requested |Select the recording source "Voice call" |Disable battery optimization for the application |Check test call-->
Legal aspects of recording calls
Before activating the recording of conversations, please read the regulations of your country: in most countries, recording calls is allowed only with the consent of the interlocutor, otherwise it can be considered a violation of the right to privacy.
Key points by country:
- ๐ท๐บ Russia: It is allowed to record conversations without notice if you are a participant in the conversation (Article 23 of the Constitution of the Russian Federation), but using the recording in court requires proof of its reliability.
- ๐บ๐ฆ Ukraine: Notification of the interlocutor is required (Article 31 of the Constitution); hidden recording is allowed only in cases provided for by law (for example, to protect oneโs rights).
- ๐ช๐บ EU: Most countries (Germany, France) require explicit consent; some (Spain, Italy) require a notification at the beginning of a conversation.
- ๐บ๐ธ U.S.: Laws vary by state, 12 states (e.g. California) require consent from all participants in a conversation.
On the Xiaomi Mi 10 with European firmware (EEA), the built-in call recording can be blocked precisely because of legal restrictions. If you use third-party apps, some of them (such as Cube Call Recorder ACR) allow you to add an automatic voice recording notification at the beginning of a conversation.
Optimizing the quality of the recording
The quality of recorded calls on Xiaomi Mi 10 depends on several factors: the application used, the format of the save and external conditions.
Selection of format and bitrate:
- ๐ต MP3 (128-192 kbps โ The optimal balance between quality and file size.
- ๐ต WAV (PCM) โ Best quality, but files take up 5-10 times more space.
- ๐ต AAC (96 kbps โ suitable for saving space, but artifacts are possible with poor communication.
Microphone settings:
In applications like Boldbeast, you can configure:
- ๐ค Microphone reinforcement (useful with a quiet interlocutor).
- ๐ค Noise suppression (remove background sounds).
- ๐ค Stereo mode (if you record through a headset).
File storage:
To keep the records from going down:
- ๐ Save files to the SD-card (if there is a slot).
- โ๏ธ Set up automatic download in Google Drive or Mi Cloud.
- ๐๏ธ Clean old records regularly through the app settings.
๐ก
If the recording is too quiet, try using a wired headset with a microphone โ this will significantly improve the sound quality.
Solving Call Recording Problems
If the recording is not working or only your voice is being recorded, use these tips:
Problem 1: The app does not record the voice of the interlocutor
- ๐ง Check to see if the speaker mode is on during a call (some apps only record this mode).
- ๐ง In the application settings, select the source of the record VOIP + Microphone (if available).
- ๐ง Update the application to the latest version.
Problem 2: Recording is terminated or not saved
- ๐ต Disable Battery Optimization for Recording Application in Settings MIUI.
- ๐ต Check if there is enough space on the device (minimum 1 GB of free space).
- ๐ต Restart your phone โ sometimes helps with microphone failures.
Problem 3: Embedded recording disappeared after MIUI update
This is typical of European firmware.
- ๐ Reverse to the previous version MIUI via Fastboot (requires an unlocked bootloader).
- ๐ Install custom firmware (e.g. Pixel Experience) where the recording function is default.
- ๐ Use third-party apps (see section above).

Alternative methods of recording
If none of the above methods worked, consider alternatives:
1. Recording through the second device
Use a second phone or voice recorder to record a conversation in hands-free mode, minus the low quality and background noise, but the method always works.
2. Google Voice (for U.S. users)
Google Voice automatically records incoming calls after pressing 4 during a conversation, and is only available for U.S.-registered numbers.
3. SIP-recorder
Apps like Zoiper or Linphone allow you to record calls via VoIP, which is suitable if you make calls over the Internet (for example, via SIP or WebRTC).
4. Root solutions (for advanced users)
With Magisk and Call Recorder Patch, you can unlock the recording at the system level, requiring an unlocked bootloader and experience with custom firmware.
