Huawei Share (formerly known as Huawei Beam) allows you to instantly transfer files between Huawei devices wirelessly, but what if you have a Xiaomi smartphone and you need to send files to a tablet or laptop of the brand? Despite the fact that Xiaomi uses its own ecosystem of Mi Share (now Quick Share in global firmware), there are several ways to get Huawei Share to work with Redmi, POCO or Mi devices. In this article, we will analyze all the current methods β from official solutions to workarounds using third-party applications.
Itβs important to understand that Huawei and Xiaomi compete in the wireless segment, so direct compatibility between their proprietary protocols is limited. However, with the release of MIUI 14+ and updates for HarmonyOS, new opportunities for cross-platform sharing have emerged. We tested all methods on Xiaomi 13 Pro (HyperOS), Redmi Note 12 (MIUI 14) and Huawei Mate 60 Pro devices β the results and step-by-step instructions below.
What is Huawei Share and why it doesnβt work on Xiaomi out of the box
Huawei Share is a proprietary wireless data protocol developed for the Huawei ecosystem (smartphones, tablets, laptops, smartwatches) and uses a combination of Wi-Fi Direct, Bluetooth LE and proprietary algorithms to:
- π± Instant file transfer (up to 10 MB/s in ideal conditions).
- π₯οΈ Synchronization of the exchange buffer between devices (text, links, images).
- π§ Accessories (earphones, speakers) without traditional mating.
- πΌοΈ Projecting the screen on TVs or monitors with Huawei Cast+.
Xiaomi defaults to Mi Share (or Quick Share in global versions), which works on a similar principle but is not compatible with Huawei at the protocol level.
- π Closed. API: Both companies do not disclose their protocol specifications to third parties.
- π‘ Different frequency bands: Huawei uses patented Wi-Fi Direct channels at 5 GHz, and Xiaomi β mainly 2.4 GHz.
- π‘οΈ Locking at firmware level: B MIUI/HyperOS There are no drivers for recognizing Huawei devices in Share mode.
But there are workarounds, from using universal protocols (like Google's Nearby Share) to manually configuring Wi-Fi Direct through an engineering menu, followed by detailed instructions for each method.
Method 1: Using Nearby Share (Google) to connect Huawei and Xiaomi
The most reliable way to share files between Huawei and Xiaomi is Googleβs Nearby Share, which is built into Google Play services. It works on all Android devices with version 6.0+ and does not require root rights. Transfer speeds reach 5-8 MB / s (depending on the device model).
How to set up Nearby Share on Xiaomi:
- Open Settings β Google β Devices and Sharing β Nearby Share.
- Insert the switch in the "On" position.
- Select visibility: "All contacts" or "All near" (to pass to unfamiliar devices).
- On your Huawei device, follow the same steps (the path may be different: Settings β Connections β Nearby Share).
How to transfer the file:
- Select a file in the gallery or file manager on Xiaomi.
- Press "Share" β Choose "Nearby Share".
- Wait until the notification of incoming transfer appears on the Huawei screen.
- Confirm acceptance on both devices.
β οΈ Note: Some Huawei models (e.g. Mate 50 or Huawei) P60) Nearby Share can be disabled by default. To activate it, install the latest version of Google Play Services via APKMirror (if your device is without Google services, use Huawei AppGallery to install alternative clients).

Method 2: Manual Wi-Fi Direct connection (for power users)
If Nearby Share doesnβt work (for example, because Google doesnβt have Huawei services), you can try connecting directly via Wi-Fi Direct, a method that requires manual tuning and may not work on all models, but can deliver speeds of up to 15MB/s.
Instructions for Xiaomi:
- Open Settings β Wi-Fi β Additional β Wi-Fi Direct.
- Activate device search.
- On Huawei, go to Settings β Wireless Networks β Wi-Fi Direct and turn on visibility.
- Select a Huawei device from the list on Xiaomi and confirm your connection.
File transfer:
- Use any file manager (e.g., Mi File Manager or Solid Explorer).
- Select files β "Send" β "Wi-Fi Direct".
- Confirm acceptance on Huawei's device.
β οΈ Note: Some Xiaomi firmware (especially Chinese versions) MIUI) The Wi-Fi Direct option can be hidden. To unlock it, run the command to the ADB:
adb shell settings put global wifi_direct_on 1After that, the item will appear in the Wi-Fi menu.
Why Wi-Fi Direct may not work?
Method 3: Intermediary Applications (Send Anywhere, Snapdrop, etc.)
If the standard methods didn't work, third-party apps would come to the rescue, and they didn't require root rights, and they even worked on devices without Google services. We tested 5 apps, and we got the best results.
| Annex | Transmission speed | File restriction | Registration is required |
|---|---|---|---|
| Send Anywhere | up to 10MB/s | 10GB | No. |
| Snapdrop | up to 5MB/s | Unlimitedly | No. |
| Xender | up to 8MB/s | 500MB | Yes (optional) |
| Feem | up to 12 MB/s | 5GB | No. |
How to use Send Anywhere (recommended option):
- Install the app on both devices (the official website or Google Play/AppGallery).
- On Xiaomi, select files and click "Send".
- 6-digit code is generated or QR-code.
- On Huawei, enter this code in the "Get" field.
- Confirm transmission.
Important: Send Anywhere App uses P2P-This is a connection, so files are transmitted directly, without downloading to the server, which guarantees privacy, but requires stable Wi-Fi or mobile Internet to initialize the connection.
π‘
If the transmission is interrupted, try turning off the power saving for the Send Anywhere app in the battery settings on both devices.
Method 4: Cloud Services as an Alternative (Mi Cloud, Huawei Cloud, Google Drive)
If wireless isn't the right way, you can use cloud storage, which is slower (depending on the speed of the Internet), but it's reliable and works on any device.
| Service | Free seat | Max. File size. | Download/download speed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mi Cloud | 5GB | 2GB | up to 3 MB/s |
| Huawei Cloud | 5GB | 4GB | up to 5MB/s |
| Google Drive | 15GB | 5 TB (with restrictions) | up to 10MB/s |
Step-by-step instructions for Mi Cloud:
- On Xiaomi, open Settings β Xiaomi Account β Mi Cloud.
- Upload files to the cloud (My Files folder).
- On Huawei, open your browser and go to i.mi.com.
- Sign in to the same Xiaomi account and download the files.
β οΈ Note: When using Huawei Cloud on Xiaomi, you may need to VPN (1.1.1.1, for example, because the service sometimes blocks access from non-certified devices.
Error Fixing: Why Huawei Share doesn't see Xiaomi (and vice versa)
If the devices do not detect each other, check the following points:
- π΅ Turn off power saving mode for Nearby Share, Wi-Fi Direct or file managers.
- π Restart both devices β sometimes modules Bluetooth/Wi-Fi "Hang" in the background.
- π‘ Check Wi-Fi range: If the router only runs on 5GHz and Xiaomi tries to connect over 2.4GHz, the connection will not establish.
- π Reset network settings on both devices: Settings β System system β Reset β Resetting Wi-Fi, Mobile Network and Bluetooth.
Common mistakes and decisions:
| Mistake. | Reason. | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| "Device not supported" | Old version of MIUI/HarmonyOS | Update the firmware to the latest version |
| "Unable to connect." | Conflict IP-local-network addresses | Restart the router or turn on the "Flight" mode. |
| "The file is too big" | Limitation of Wi-Fi Direct Protocol | Break the file into parts or use the cloud |
If nothing helps, try resetting your network settings to factory:
On Xiaomi: Settings β About Phone β Resetting β Resetting Wi-Fi and Bluetooth settings
On Huawei: Settings β System β Reset β Network Resetπ‘
Before resetting your network settings, write down your Wi-Fi passwords β they will be deleted!
