Fastboot mode on Xiaomi smartphones is a special engineering menu that is used to firmware, unlock the bootloader or restore the system. However, many users face a situation where the device βhangsβ in this mode: the screen displays a hare in a hat-outer (the Mi Bunny logo) and the inscription FASTBOOT, and the usual ways of turning on do not work. The reasons can be different from accidental pressing of the button combination to a firmware failure.
In this article, weβll look at all the ways you can exit Fastboot, from the simplest (button reboot) to the most advanced (ADB and MiFlash), each of which works in different scenarios: for example, if your smartphone responds to buttons, if the screen doesnβt turn on, or if youβve tried to flash your device and something goes wrong, and youβll learn how to avoid getting back into the Fastboot and what to do if standard methods donβt work.
Important: All instructions are relevant for Xiaomi, Redmi, POCO and Black Shark (2018-2026).If your device is older, some methods may not work due to the features of the bootloader.
1. Simple reboot: exit buttons
The most obvious and safe way to do this is to try rebooting your smartphone with hardware buttons, which works 70% of the time if the Fastboot was activated accidentally (for example, by pressing the combination Loudness down + Power).
Instructions:
- π Hold the power button for 10-15 seconds. On some models (such as the Redmi Note 10 Pro) it can take up to 20 seconds.
- π± If the screen is gone, but turned on again in Fastboot β try holding the power button + upside down simultaneously (5-7 seconds).
- π If the smartphone is connected to charging, disconnect the cable - sometimes this prevents a correct reboot.
If after a few attempts, the device still returns to the Fastboot, move to the next method. On models with a fixed battery (for example, Xiaomi 13), long-term power retention may not work, in which case you will need to connect to a PC.
2.Exit via Recovery Mode (Recovery Menu)
If the standard reboot didnβt help, try logging into Recovery Mode, an alternative recovery menu where you can reboot your smartphone to normal mode or reset your settings.
How to log in to Recovery:
- Turn off your smartphone (hold power until the screen is turned off).
- Press Volume Up + Power and hold for 5-10 seconds until the Mi logo appears.
- Release buttons β a menu with a minimalist interface (usually in English or Chinese) should open.
Further action:
- π Select the Reboot option β Reboot to System (Reboot to System).
- π§ If you donβt have this option, try Wipe Data, but keep in mind that it will delete all files!
- π± On some firmware (for example, MIUI 14) Recovery menu can be in Chinese - look for characters (reboot).
What happens if Recovery does not open?
β οΈ Warning: If you choose Wipe Data, all data (photos, contacts, messages) will be deleted.
3.Use of ADB-Teams (for experienced users)
If your smartphone is detected by your computer in Fastboot mode, you can try to exit it using ADB (Android Debug Bridge), which requires installing drivers and minimal command line knowledge.
Step-by-step:
- Download and install Platform Tools (the official tool from Google).
- Connect your smartphone to your PC through USB-cable (preferably original).
- Open the command line (Win + R β enter cmd).
- Go to the folder with the platform-tools (for example, cd C:\platform-tools).
- Type the command: fastboot reboot If the device does not respond, try: fastboot continue
If the teams don't work, check:
- π Connection to USB (Try another cable or port).
- π₯οΈ Are drivers installed (Device Manager should display Android Bootloader Interface).
- π Reinstall Mi. USB Driver from the official Xiaomi website.
π‘
If the fastboot reboot command gives a waiting for device error, try entering fastboot devices β if the list is empty, the problem is in the drivers or cable.
4.Reset to factory settings via Fastboot
If the smartphone doesn't leave the Fastboot, but it responds to commands, you can do a hard reset right out of that mode, which will delete all the data, but return the device to working condition.
Instructions:
- Connect your smartphone to your PC and open the command line in the platform-tools folder.
- Enter the command to reset: fastboot erase userdata fastboot erase cache fastboot reboot
- If Fastboot reappears after the reboot, do a full reset: fastboot-w (this is the equivalent of Wipe Data in Recovery).
β οΈ Note: On some models (e.g, POCO F3) after the fastboot team -w You may need to re-flash through MiFlash because critical partitions are erased.
| Team team. | Action. | Effects of consequences |
|---|---|---|
| fastboot reboot | Reboot. | Safe, data is not deleted |
| fastboot erase userdata | Deletion of user data | Settings and applications will reset |
| fastboot -w | Full reset (wipe) | Deletes everything, including cache and DALVIK |
| fastboot continue | Continue loading | It might help if Fastboot came up after the update |
5. Firmware through MiFlash (last resort)
If nothing works, you just have to flash your smartphone through MiFlash, a radical method that will bring the device back to a clean state, but you have to download the firmware and install the software.
What you need:
- π₯οΈ Windows computer (7/10/11).
- π Original. USB-cable (preferably from the set).
- π₯ Firmware for your model (download from the official website).
- π οΈ MiFlash utility (download here).
Step-by-step:
- Unpack the firmware (file with the extension.tgz or.zip) in a folder without Cyrillic characters.
- Install MiFlash and run the program on behalf of the administrator.
- Connect the off smartphone in Fastboot mode to the PC.
- In MiFlash, click Select and specify the path to the firmware folder.
- Select firmware mode: Clean all - complete cleaning (recommended). Clean all and lock - cleaning + lock the bootloader (if unlocked).
Flash
β οΈ Note: The firmware through MiFlash deletes all data, including files in the internal memory. If you had the bootloader unlocked, it will be blocked again after the firmware is installed!

6. Hardware problems: when nothing helps
If all of the above methods fail, the problem may be a hardware malfunction:
- π Faulty battery (smartphone turns off when trying to boot).
- π Damaged plume of power or volume button.
- π± Damaged motherboard (for example, after falling or getting moisture).
- π Memory controller failure (rarely, but happens on older models).
How to diagnose:
- Try connecting your smartphone to charge for 30 to 60 minutes β if the battery is completely discharged, it may not respond to buttons.
- Check if the device is identified in Windows Device Manager (should be displayed as Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008 or the like).
- If when connecting to a PC, the smartphone warms up, but does not turn on - this is a sign of a short circuit.
In such cases, you only need to contact the service center. The average cost of diagnosis is 500-1000 rubles, repair (for example, replacing the plume of buttons) will cost 1500-3,000 rubles, depending on the model.
π‘
If the smartphone doesn't respond to any commands, doesn't warm up and isn't detected by the PC, it's likely the hardware problem. Self-repair without experience can make things worse.
7.How to avoid getting back into the Fastboot
To avoid having to hang out in Fastboot again, follow these tips:
- π Do not accidentally press the volume down + Power when turning on / off the smartphone.
- π± Before you open or open the bootloader, charge the battery fully (minimum 60%).
- π Use only original cables and chargers β cheap accessories can cause failures.
- π‘οΈ Update regularly MIUI through settings (Settings) β The phone. β Updating the system).
- π§ Do not install custom firmware unless you are sure of its compatibility with your model.
If you frequently work with Fastboot (for example, flashing your smartphone), install the Quick Reboot app from Google Play β it allows you to quickly reboot to different modes without the risk of hanging up.
It is also useful to know the hot keys for your model:
| Model | Fastboot | Recovery |
