Fastboot mode on Xiaomi Redmi 8 is a special engineering mode that is used to firmware, unlock the bootloader or restore the system. However, many users face a situation where the smartphone βhangsβ in this mode and does not respond to standard actions. The reasons can be different from accidental button pressing to failure during software updates.
Unlike the usual Recovery Mode, Fastboot requires a connection to your computer and the use of special commands via ADB/Fastboot. But what to do if there is no PC at hand and the phone refuses to get out of this state? In this article, we will discuss all the current ways to exit from Fastboot to Redmi 8, including methods without a computer and using official Xiaomi tools.
It is important to understand that the wrong actions in this mode can lead to complete loss of data or even βbrickingβ of the device, so before you start, we recommend you to carefully study each method and choose the most suitable for your situation.
Why is Redmi 8 stuck in Fastboot mode?
Before we get to the problem, it is worth understanding the causes of the problem. Fastboot mode on Xiaomi Redmi 8 can be activated automatically in several cases:
- π§ Failed software update β if the firmware process was interrupted (for example, due to battery discharge or server error), the system can βhangβ in Fastboot.
- π Reset to factory settings via Recovery Mode, which ended with an error.
- π οΈ Unlock the bootloader with the official Mi Unlock Tool β if the process has been interrupted, the phone can stay in Fastboot.
- π± Accidental pressing of the button combination (for example, Volume down) + Power supply) when switched on.
- π Critical battery discharge during operation in engineering mode.
In most cases, the problem is solved software, but sometimes it may be necessary to flash through the EDL-However, this method requires special equipment and skills, so we will consider it at the very end as a last resort.
β οΈ Note: If your Redmi 8 is in Fastboot mode after trying to get root rights or install custom firmware, standard methods may not work.
Method 1: Standard output (without computer)
If your Redmi 8 is stuck in Fastboot mode by accident (for example, because of button pressing), try the standard exit method:
- Hold the power button for 10-15 seconds until the screen goes out.
- Wait 30 seconds β sometimes the system automatically restarts to normal mode.
- If the screen catches fire again with the words Fastboot, try the combination: Volume up + Power Hold it 5-7 seconds until the Recovery Mode menu appears.
- In the recovery menu, select Reboot β Reboot to System (use volume buttons for navigation and power for confirmation).
If this method doesn't work, move on to the next method, and it may be a software failure that causes you to need a connection to your computer.

Method 2: Exit via Mi PC Suite (official method)
If the standard reboot didnβt work, use Xiaomiβs official utility, the Mi PC Suite, which is suitable for those who donβt want to work with the command line.
Download and install Mi PC Suite from the official website. Then follow the following steps:
- Connect Redmi 8 to your computer via USB-cable (preferably original).
- Run Mi PC Suite and wait until the program determines the device in Fastboot mode.
- In the main menu, select the Update section.
- The program will offer to download the latest firmware for your model. Agree and wait for the download to be completed.
- After downloading, click Update Now. The utility will automatically re-flash the device and remove it from Fastboot mode.
This method is safe as it uses official Xiaomi firmware, but can take up to 30-40 minutes depending on internet speed and PC performance.
β οΈ Attention: If Mi PC The Suite doesnβt see your Redmi 8, but try it: π Connect the phone to another USB-port (preferably) USB 2.0). π Reinstall Xiaomi drivers manually (you can download on the official website). π‘οΈ Disable the antivirus β it can block the work of the utility.
π‘
If Mi PC Suite does not offer an update, try to manually download the firmware for your model on the Xiaomi Firmware Updater website and select it in the program through the option "Select firmware file".
Method 3: Fastboot commands via ADB (for power users)
If previous methods fail, you'll need to use the command line and the ADB/Fastboot utility, which requires minimal technical skills but allows you to manage the process more flexibly.
First, download and install Platform Tools (which is part of the Android SDK).
- Connect Redmi 8 to your computer and open the command prompt (cmd) in the folder with Platform Tools (hold Shift + right mouse button β Open the command window).
- Check if the device is detected by entering the command: fastboot devices If in response you see the serial number of the phone β the connection is successful.
- Enter the command to reboot to normal mode: fastboot reboot
- If the phone doesnβt respond, try a forced reboot: fastboot oem reboot
If the commands do not work, you may need to unlock the bootloader (if it is blocked).
- Enter: fastboot oem unlock (this will delete all data on the device!).
- Once unlocked, repeat the command fastboot reboot.
| Team team. | Description | When to use |
|---|---|---|
| fastboot reboot | Standard reset. | If the phone responds to commands |
| fastboot oem reboot | Forced reset | If the normal team didn't work out |
| fastboot oem unlock | Unlocking the loader | If the bootloader is blocked (delete the data!) |
| fastboot flash recovery recovery.img | Recovery reflashing | If the standard Recovery is damaged |
β οΈ Note: The fastboot oem unlock and fastboot flash commands can result in loss of warranty and deletion of all data!
π‘
If fastboot reboot commands donβt work, it could mean that the bootloader is locked or the system area is damaged, in which case a complete firmware reflash is required.
Method 4: Flashing through the Mi Flash Tool (last resort)
If none of the previous methods worked, the last option is a complete flashing through the Mi Flash Tool, which will return the phone to factory status, but delete all data.
This will require:
- π₯οΈ Windows computer (7/10/11).
- π₯ Official firmware for Redmi 8 (you can download on the official website of Xiaomi).
- π§ The Mi Flash Tool.
Step-by-step:
- Download and install the Mi Flash Tool.
- Unpack the archive with firmware in a folder without Cyrillic characters (for example, C:\Redmi8_Firmware).
- Run the Mi Flash Tool on behalf of the administrator.
- Connect Redmi 8 in Fastboot mode to your computer.
- In the program, click Select and specify the path to the folder with the firmware.
- Select firmware mode: Clean all - complete cleaning (recommended). Clean all and lock - cleaning + lock bootloader (if you need to return the warranty).
Flash
5-10 minutes
After flashing, the phone will automatically restart to normal mode, and the first turn on can take up to 5-7 minutes β that's normal.
What to do if the Mi Flash Tool is in error?
Method 5: Emergency mode EDL (if nothing helps)
If all the previous methods failed, the last chance is EDL (Emergency Download Mode), which is an emergency boot mode that allows you to flash a phone even with a damaged system.
- π§ Authorized Xiaomi Account (to unlock) EDL).
- π₯οΈ Specialist EDL-cable or short circuit test points (requires disassembly of the phone).
- π¦.mbn firmware (can be found on forums like XDA-Developers).
Instructions for experienced users:
- Put the phone in mode. EDL: Shut the phone down. Close the test points (on the Redmi 8 board, they are located next to the battery connector) or use the test points. EDL-- I'll put it on. USB-cable β the screen must remain black, but the computer will identify the device as Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008.
QFil Tool

Download
15-20 minutes
β οΈ Attention: Regime EDL β This is an extreme measure that can lead to complete loss of data and cancellation of the warranty. If you are not sure about your skills, it is better to contact the Xiaomi service center.
What do you do if nothing helps?
If all of these methods fail, there may be a hardware failure, in which case:
- π Check the battery β if it's under 5%, the phone may not respond to commands. Connect the charger and wait 15-20 minutes.
- π Try another one. USB-cable and port β sometimes the problem lies in poor contact.
- π οΈ If the phone doesn't respond to the buttons, the power button or the plume may have malfunctioned.
- π Contact Xiaomi Service Center β If the device is warranty, repairs can be free.
Itβs also worth checking if your Redmi 8 has Anti-Rollback mode activated, which is a rollback protection against older versions of the firmware that can block the exit from Fastboot.
π‘
If the phone does not respond to any commands and is not determined by the computer, the most likely cause is a hardware malfunction (damage to the motherboard, power controller, or memory).
