Why You Can't Sign In to Mi Account and What to Do About It
Forgot your Mi Account password, lost access to your email or phone? Or worse, Xiaomi blocked your account on suspicion of infringement? Different situations, but there is always a solution. Mi Account is not just an account to synchronize data, but also the key to unlock devices after a reset, activate Find Device or Mi Cloud. Without it, many of the features of Redmi, POCO or Mi smartphones become unavailable.
In this article, we will look at all the current ways to restore access to Mi Account in 2026, including bypassing locks, working with support and alternative methods for locked devices. Importantly, the procedure depends on whether you remember any account information (mail, phone, backup address) or not.
Method 1: Recovery via email (if you remember the address)
If you remember an email tied to your Mi Account but you forgot your password, that's the quickest way. Xiaomi sends a reset link to your primary or backup email. Here's how it works:
- π§ Go to the Mi Account login page: account.xiaomi.com.
- π Press Forgot the password? β Choose Restore via email.
- βοΈ Enter the email address linked to the account and resolve the captcha.
- π Email will be sent with a link for reset (valid 24 hours).
If the letter doesn't come in:
- Check the Spam or Promotions folder (in Gmail).
- Make sure that your email is not blocked (e.g., Mail.ru sometimes blocks emails from Xiaomi).
- Try sending the letter again in 5-10 minutes.
π‘
If you use corporate email (e.g. from work), the email may not be able to reach you because of security filters, and try to restore your account via your phone or backup email.
β οΈ Note: If you changed your email password after you signed up for Mi Account, but didn't update it in your Xiaomi account settings, email recovery won't work.
Method 2: Recovery via phone number (SMS)
If you have a phone number attached to your account, you can re-establish access via SMS, which works even if you change your email or forget it.
- π± On the Mi Account login page, click Forgot the password?.
- π Select Restore via phone and enter the number associated with the account.
- π’ Enter the code from SMS (5 minutes).
- π Create a new password (minimum 8 characters, with numbers and letters).
Problems that may arise:
| Problem. | Decision |
|---|---|
| Not coming. SMS | Check your phoneβs balance, try to request the code again, or use a different browser (e.g. Chrome instead of Safari). |
| Room's changed. | If you have access to the old SIM-If you don't, you can move to a support system. |
| Code doesn't fit. | Make sure you enter the code without spaces. If the error repeats, request a new one. |
β οΈ Note: If you used a virtual number (for example, from Telegram or services like SMS-Activate), restore through the SMS Xiaomi is blocking these numbers for security reasons.
Method 3: Recovery through backup email or security issues
If the main mail and phone are not available, but you have provided a backup email or answered classified questions when you register, there is a chance of recovery.
- On the password recovery page, select Other Ways.
- If there is a backup email, enter it - a link will come to the mail for reset.
- If there is no backup email, the system will prompt you to answer security questions (e.g., "What is your first teacher's name?" or "What city were you born in?").
Important: Security questions are only asked when you sign up for an account, and if you created a Mi Account through Google or Facebook (before 2021), it wonβt work.
What to do if you donβt remember the answers to the secret questions?
β οΈ Note: After 3 failed attempts to answer questions, Xiaomi may block recovery through this method for 24 hours!
Method 4: Calling for Xiaomi Support (If Nothing Works)
If all the previous methods failed, the only thing left is official Xiaomi support, which is the longest, but sometimes the only way to get back access.
- π Go to the support site: mi.com/global/support.
- π Choose Mi Account. β Lost access.
- π Attach screenshots or photos confirming ownership of the account: Checks purchase Xiaomi devices (if tied to the account); Screenshots of emails from Xiaomi (for example, notifications about login to the account); Photos of the device box with the IMEI (If the account is linked to the phone).
- β³ Wait for a response (usually 3-7 days).
What increases the chances of success:
β The more evidence you provide, the faster the support will confirm your ownership of the account. IMEI Phones tied to Mi Account have 70 higher chances of recovery%.
β οΈ Note: Xiaomi support does not restore accounts if:
- You cannot confirm ownership of any device associated with your account.
- The account was blocked for violating the rules (for example, suspicion of fraud).
- You are contacting from another region (for example, the account is registered in China, and the request is from Russia).

Method 5: Unlock a device without a Mi Account (if the account is blocked)
If your Mi Account is locked and your phone requires you to enter your account data (Mi Cloud Lock) after a reset, there are workarounds. They don't work on all devices, but it's worth a try.
Method 1: Fastboot Mode (for advanced users)
Suitable for Qualcomm processor devices (e.g. Redmi Note 10 Pro, POCO X3 Pro)
- Install the Mi Flash Tool and Qualcomm drivers.
- Download firmware for your model (e.g. from xiaomifirmwareupdater.com).
- Transfer the phone to Fastboot mode (clamp Volume down + Power).
- In the Mi Flash Tool, select the firmware and press Flash (select clean all).
Method 2: Through EDL-The mode (only for experienced users!)
It works on Qualcomm chips, but requires an authorized Xiaomi account to unlock the bootloader.

β οΈ Note: Using informal unlocking methods may result in loss of warranty and lockdown IMEI. If the phone is officially purchased, it is better to contact the Xiaomi service center.

If your device is locked because of Mi Account and you donβt remember the login details, the only legal way to unlock it is to seek support with proof of purchase.
What to do if your Mi Account is stolen or hacked
If you suspect your account has been compromised (for example, login notifications from unknown devices are coming), act quickly:
- π Change your password immediately through the recovery page.
- π± Untie all unknown devices in the Mi Account settings (Device Management section).
- π‘οΈ Enable two-factor authentication (2FA) safety-setting.
- π§ Check if your email or phone has been changed.
If the account is already blocked by fraudsters:
- Contact Xiaomi with proof of ownership (cheques, IMEI).
- If a bank card is attached to your account, block it immediately.
- Check if third-party services (such as Mi Pay or Mi Credit) are connected to your account.
β οΈ Warning: Fraudsters often use stolen Mi Accounts to:
- Purchases in the Mi Store at the expense of a tied card.
- Unlocking and reselling phones.
- Spam through Mi Community.
