Xiaomi's robot vacuum cleaner can eventually start to malfunction, like losing connection to the app, building a map of the room incorrectly, or ignoring commands. In 80 percent of cases, a full factory reset is solved, a procedure that returns the device to its original parameters, like after the purchase. But how to properly reset the vacuum cleaner so as not to turn it into a "brick"?
In this article, we will discuss 4 current reset methods for Mi Robot Vacuum, Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop, Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 and other 2020-2026 ranges, including devices with support for LDS (laser scanning) and Lidar. We will analyze resets through physical buttons, the Mi Home application, the Mi Robot web interface and even the โhiddenโ method for locked devices.
Before you start, consider that the reset removes all stored maps of the premises, cleaning history, zone settings and schedules. If the vacuum cleaner is tied to a Xiaomi account, it will need to be reconnected via Mi Home or Mi Robot. For models with Multi-Floor Mapping, you will have to recreate all floors.
1.When do you need to reset the Xiaomi robot vacuum cleaner?
Factory reset is a last resort, and should only be resorted to if other methods have not worked, and here are typical situations where it is really needed:
- ๐ The vacuum cleaner doesnโt connect to Wi-Fi or permanently loses communication with the app despite rebooting the router.
- ๐บ๏ธ The device does not build a map of the room, moves chaotically or ignores virtual walls.
- ๐ The robot is blocked by the previous owner (for example, after buying used) and requires authorization.
- ๐ ๏ธ After a failed firmware update, the vacuum cleaner hangs on the logo or gives an Error 10 error.
- ๐ฑ The Mi Home app shows the message "Device is not responding" even though the indicators on the vacuum cleaner are on fire.
If the problem is temporary (e.g., the vacuum cleaner does not respond to one command), try first:
- Reboot the device (hold the power button for 10 seconds).
- Update the firmware through Mi Home.
- Reset the Wi-Fi settings in the application (Device Settings โ Network).
โ ๏ธ Attention: Resetting will not help if the problem is related to mechanical malfunctions (wear of brushes, engine failure, damage to sensors.
2. Method 1: Reset via physical buttons (for all models)
It is a universal method that works even if the vacuum cleaner is not connected to the application or locked, and is suitable for most Xiaomi models, including:
- ๐ค Mi Robot Vacuum 1/1S/2
- ๐งน Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop (P/E/2C/2S)
- ๐ Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 Pro/Ultra/Lite
- ๐ก Dreame (a sub-brand of Xiaomi): D9, F9, Z10 Pro
Instructions:
- Turn off the vacuum cleaner with a long press on the power button (3-5 seconds).
- Press the power button and the home button (or Spot Cleaning if there is no home button).
- Hold both buttons for 10-15 seconds until you hear a beep and all the indicators light up.
- Release the buttons. The vacuum cleaner will issue a voice message in Chinese: "" ("Factory Reset").
The reset process will take 1-2 minutes, and after completion, the vacuum cleaner will automatically restart and be ready for a new setup.
Disconnect the vacuum cleaner from the charging station
Make sure the battery is at least 20% charged
Press and hold the buttons at the same time
Do not release the buttons before the beep-->
โ ๏ธ Note: Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 Ultra and DreameBot L10s Ultra resetting via buttons may require additional confirmation in the application. If the vacuum cleaner has not reset after the sound signal, use the method โ3 (via Mi Robot).
Method 2: Reset via the Mi Home application (official method)
If the vacuum cleaner is connected to a Xiaomi account and displayed in Mi Home, the reset can be done software-based, which is safer than hardware, since the firmware is checked for integrity.
Step-by-step:
- Open the Mi Home app and select your vacuum cleaner.
- Go to Device Settings โ General โ Reset settings.
- Confirm the action by entering the password from the Xiaomi account (if required).
- Wait for the process to be completed (the progress bar will appear on the screen).
In some versions of the Mi Home, the path to reset may be different.
- Device profile โ Threefold (โฎ) โ Resetting settings
- Settings โ Additional โ Recovery and Reset
After the reset, the vacuum cleaner will automatically unplug the account and be available for new binding. If the device does not appear in the list of available for connection, do:
1. Reset the vacuum cleaner (hold the power button 10 seconds).
2. Remove it from Mi Home manually (Profile โ Delete Device).
3. Go to Add Device โ Robot vacuum cleaner and repeat the binding.๐ก
If the vacuum cleaner doesnโt connect to Wi-Fi after the reset, try using the 2.4GHz hotspot (Xiaomi robots donโt support 5GHz). Also temporarily disable the VPN or proxy in the phone settings โ they can block the connection to Xiaomi servers.
Method 3: Reset via the Mi Robot web interface (for advanced users)
This method is suitable for models with Lidar support (laser scanning) and firmware at least 3.5.8. It allows you to reset settings without physical access to the vacuum cleaner if it is connected to the same network with the computer.
Instructions:
- Find out. IP-- The address of the vacuum cleaner:

โ ๏ธ Note: Resetting via the web interface can damage the firmware if you interrupt the process or use an incompatible version of the browser. It is recommended to use Google Chrome or Firefox of the latest version.
5. Method 4: Reset for locked vacuum cleaners (if the previous owner did not untie the device)
If you bought a Xiaomi vacuum cleaner from hand and it is tied to someone elseโs account, a standard reset may not work, in which case a โhardโ reset through service mode will help.
Algorithm of action:
- Turn off the vacuum cleaner and remove the battery for 5 minutes (this will reset the temporary data in memory).
- Insert the battery back and turn on the device.
- Press the power button + the "Spot Cleaning" button for 20 seconds (up to a double beep).
- After restarting, the vacuum cleaner will be in service mode. Connect to its access point (Wi-Fi network with the name of the roborock-XXXX species).
- Open the address 192.168.145.1 in your browser and reset through the web interface.
Reestablish the schedule:
