A forgotten password on Xiaomi Redmi 9C is a bad situation, but it is solvable. Even if you have never set up backup unlock methods, there are at least 5 working methods to return access to the device. The main thing is not to panic and not try to guess the code by brute force: after 10 unsuccessful attempts, the smartphone will lock for 24 hours, and after 30 - it may require a hard reset with loss of all data.
In this article, we will discuss all the current ways to unlock the Redmi 9C (model M2006C3LG), from the simplest to the most technically complex.
- π How to reset your password through Mi Account (if you have an account attached)
- π± How to Use Recovery Mode to Reset to Factory Settings
- π₯οΈ How to unlock your phone via Fastboot and PC
- π What to do if you forget your password and Mi Account data
- β οΈ What errors lead to a device blink (and how to avoid them)
Important: unlock methods depend on the MIUI version and the status of the phone. For example, on a Redmi 9C with MIUI 12.5+, a Find Device reset may not work unless the Find Device option is enabled in the settings. We have taken into account all the nuances - choose the appropriate method and follow the instructions.
1 Unblocking through Mi Account (if an account is linked)
The safest way to do this is to use Xiaomiβs official Find Device service, which works if:
- π§ The phone had a Mi Account attached (even if you don't remember the password from it)
- πΆ Device connected to the Internet (Wi-Fi or mobile network)
- π Battery charge over 20%
- π The "Find Device" function was activated in the settings (Settings) β Mi Account β Find Device)
If all conditions are met, follow the instructions:
- Go to i.mi.com from any device (PC, tablet, other phone).
- Sign in with the same Mi Account as the blocked Redmi 9C.
- Select a locked phone from the menu (if multiple devices are linked to your account).
- Click "Unlock the device" and confirm the action via SMS or email.
- Wait 5-10 minutes β the phone will unlock automatically (it must be connected to the Internet).

What if the Find Device unlocking doesnβt work?
- π Restart your phone and try again.
- πΆ Check your internet connection (sometimes switching from Wi-Fi to mobile data helps).
- β³ Wait 1-2 hours β Xiaomi servers can handle requests with a delay.
- π§ Make sure you log in with the correct account (on Redmi). 9C Maybe there was another Mi Account).
β οΈ Warning: If you want to enter your old password after unlocking your phone, you may not have resetted the Find Device, so you'll have to use Recovery or Fastboot mode.
2. Reset password through Recovery (Hard Reset) mode
If the Mi Account is not tied or unlocked through it fails, it is hard to reset to factory settings, which will delete all data from the phone, including photos, contacts and apps, but will return access to the device. 9C Recovery reset works even if the pattern lock is forgotten or PIN-code.
Step instructions:
- Turn off the phone by pressing the power button for 10 seconds.
- Press the Power button + Volume up at the same time and hold for 10-15 seconds until the Mi logo appears.
- Release the buttons and you will be taken to the Recovery menu (may be in Chinese or English).
- Use volume buttons for navigation and power button to select the item.
- Select Wipe Data β Wipe All Data β Confirm.
- After reset, select Reboot β Reboot to System.
The phone will reboot and offer to configure it as new. On Redmi 9C models with MIUI 12.5+, after a hard reset, you may need to enter data from the previously tied Mi Account (FRP protection). If you do not remember the account, go to the method from Fastboot.

3. Unlock via Fastboot (for advanced users)
If the reset via Recovery does not help because of FRP-locking (requires you to enter Mi Account data after reset), the method remains via Fastboot. 9C suppositionally MIUI, It requires a computer and installed drivers.
You'll need:
- π» Computer with Windows/Linux
- π Cable USB (preferably original)
- π¦ Mi Flash Tool or Fastboot Teams
- π Firmware for Redmi 9C (You can download from the official website)
Step-by-step:
- Turn off the phone and put it in Fastboot mode: press the Power button + Volume down for 10 seconds.
- Connect the Redmi 9C to your computer via USB.

4. Password reset via ADB (if USB debugging is enabled)
This method is suitable if the Redmi 9C has been enabled to debug via USB (Settings β About Phone β MIUI Version β 7 times press to unlock the developer options, then Settings β Additional β For developers β USB debugging). If debugging is activated, you can reset the password without losing data.
Instructions:
- Connect your phone to your computer via USB.
- Open the command line and check the connection: Adb devices If the device is displayed, go further.
- Enter the commands in turn: adb shell su rm /data/system/gesture.key rm /data/system/password.key rm /data/system/locksettings.db rm /data/system/locksettings.db-wal rm /data/system/locksettings.db-shm reboot
- After resetting, the password will be reset.
If the commands donβt work, try an alternative method:
adb shell am start -n com.android.settings/.ChooseLockGenericThis command will open a password change menu where you can set a new one.
π‘
The ADB method only works if USB debugging was enabled before the phone locks, and if the option is not activated, it is useless.
5. What should I do if nothing helps?
If all of these methods fail, there are two options:
- Contact the service center Xiaomi β official centers can unlock the phone on the documents for the owner (passport + check of purchase).
- Use paid unlock services - there are removal services on the Internet FRP-blocking for 500-1500 rubles (for example, through GSM-Risk: You can run into scammers.
Before you bring your phone to the service, check:
- π Is there an old password somewhere written (in the notebook, SMS, email).
- π± Is the phone connected to another device via Mi Cloud (you can try to restore access through synchronization).
- π Is the battery drained (sometimes the phone does not respond to commands due to low charge).
Last tip: if the phone unlocks, immediately:
- π Set up a fingerprint or facial recognition as a backup way to enter.
- π§ Link Mi Account and activate Find Device.
- βοΈ Enable autosynchronization of contacts and photos in Mi Cloud.
- π Write your password to a secure location (for example, Bitwarden or KeePass password manager).
