Forgot your Mi Account password and canβt log into a Xiaomi, Redmi or POCO smartphone? This is a familiar situation for many users β especially if the device has been unused for a long time or the password was saved automatically. Without access to your account, you wonβt be able to download apps from the Mi App Store, sync data, or even unlock your phone after resetting.
Fortunately, Xiaomi has provided several official ways to restore access, from a simple reset via email to the use of special tools like the Mi Unlock Tool. In this article, we will analyze all the current methods for 2026, including bypassing locks through Fastboot and the nuances of working with two-factor authentication. Importantly, some methods require preliminary preparation (for example, linking a phone number), so read carefully!
1. Recovery of password via email or phone
The fastest and safest way is to use the standard password reset procedure on Xiaomiβs official website, which works if you have access to a linked email or phone number.
Go to the recovery page: https://account.xiaomi.com/pass/resetPassword. The system will prompt you to enter a login (email, phone or Mi ID) and send a confirmation code. If you don't remember the login, try to find emails from service@xiaomi.com in the mailbox - there may be information about the account.
- π§ Email: The code will come to the mail you registered with. 10 minutes.
- π± Through SMS: The code message is sent to the associated number, and if the number has changed, this method will not work.
- π Two-factor authentication: If enabled, you will need to enter additional code from the Mi Authenticator app.
Once you have entered the code, the system will suggest you create a new password. Use a combination of at least 8 characters, including letters, numbers and special characters. Avoid simple sequences like 12345678 or qwerty, which are easy to crack.
2 Unlocking through Mi Unlock Tool (for locked phones)
If the Xiaomi smartphone is locked after resetting and requires the entry of Mi-account data, and you do not remember the password, the official Mi Unlock Tool will help. This method is suitable for devices with a Qualcomm processor (most models of Redmi, POCO, Mi 10/11 and later).
Important: Before using the tool, make sure that:
Turn off your phone and press Power + Volume Down to log in to Fastboot
Install Qualcomm and ADB drivers on PC
Download the latest version of Mi Unlock Tool from the official website
Connect your phone to your PC through the original USB-cable (do not use hubs!)
-->
Algorithm of action:
- Run MiUnlock.exe and log in to the same account that you have linked to your phone (if you remember the data).
- Connect your smartphone in Fastboot mode (screen with a rabbit and the inscription Fastboot).
- Press Unlock and wait until the process is complete (usually 5-10 minutes).
β οΈ Note: If the phone was bought with hands, the previous owner could not untie the account. in this case, the Mi Unlock Tool will not work - you will need to contact Xiaomi with proof of purchase.
Once successfully unlocked, the phone will restart and you can configure it as new. Note: This method erases all data from the device!
3. Password reset via Xiaomi support appeal
If standard methods donβt work (e.g., no email/phone access or an account has been hacked), you can contact Xiaomiβs support team, which is the longest, but sometimes the only, method to work.
For this:
- Go to the support page: https://www.mi.com/global/support.
- Select the Account Issues section β Forgot Password.
- Fill out the form by specifying: π Mi ID (or email/phone) π Documents confirming possession of the device (checks, box with IMEI) π Detailed description of the problem (when and how you lost access)
| Type of proof | What's right? | What's wrong? |
|---|---|---|
| Check of purchase | Original or scan with date, model, IMEI | Photo of a box without a check |
| Guarantee pass | With a store seal and serial number. | Printing from an online store without IMEI |
| Screenshots | Correspondence with the seller (for b/u devices) | Screens from the account without reference to the device |
The application period is 3 to 14 days, and if the documents are in order, support will reset the password and send a temporary access code, and in complex cases (for example, if you suspect a theft), they may require video of the device or additional data.
π‘
If you bought a phone on AliExpress or Amazon, keep correspondence with the seller - it will serve as proof of ownership.
4. Bypassing the lock through Recovery mode (for power users)
This method is suitable if you do not remember the Mi Account data, but the phone is not locked at the Fastboot level. The method works on most Xiaomi models until 2022 release (new ones may require unlocking the bootloader).
Instructions:
- Turn off the phone.
- Press Power + Volume Up to enter Recovery Mode.
- Select Wipe Data β Wipe All Data (control β volume buttons, confirmation β power button).
- After the reset, the phone will reboot and prompt you to set it up as new.
We also recommend periodically (every 3-6 months) check active sessions in the Mi-account.
- Go to https://account.xiaomi.com.
- In the Security β Devices section, delete unknown sessions.
- Check the Activity Log section for suspicious activity (e.g., attempts to log in from other countries).
If you plan to sell or transfer your phone, be sure to untie your Mi Account: Settings β Xiaomi Account β Sign out, then reset your settings.
