Xiaomiโs robot vacuum cleaners are smart assistants that accumulate data about your home over time, save cleaning maps and customizations. But sometimes you need to return the device to factory parameters: when you sell, after software failures or to fix errors in work. In this article, we will analyze all the current reset methods for Mi Robot Vacuum, Dreame, Viomi and other brands of products โ from simple reset via the application to hard recovery using physical buttons.
It is important to understand that resetting removes not only user settings, but also room maps, cleaning history, schedules and binding to your Mi Home account. Therefore, before the procedure, we recommend saving important data (for example, screenshots of maps) or synchronizing it with the cloud. If your vacuum cleaner becomes โgluttyโ โ for example, wrongly constructing a route or does not respond to commands โ reset often helps to return stable work without contacting the service.
When you need to reset the settings of the robot vacuum cleaner Xiaomi
Resetting to factory settings is not a universal solution to all problems, but it is effective in a number of cases:
- ๐ Preparing for sale or transfer โ so that the new owner can tie the vacuum cleaner to his Mi Home account.
- ๐ Software failures: the robot freezes, does not respond to commands, reboots cyclically or issues errors like Error 10 (problem with sensors).
- ๐บ๏ธ Map problems: vacuum cleaner wrongly constructs route, "lost" in familiar rooms or ignores virtual walls.
- ๐ Change Wi-Fi network: if it is not possible to reconnect the vacuum cleaner to the new router through the application.
- ๐ Account locking: for example, if you forget the data from the Mi Account to which the vacuum cleaner is tied.
However, resetting will not help if the problem is related to mechanical breakdowns (wear of brushes, engine malfunction) or hardware failures (damage to the board, battery discharge to critical level), in such cases, diagnostics are required in the service center.
โ ๏ธ Note: After the vacuum cleaner is reset, Xiaomi may require reconfiguration of cleaning areas, schedules and other settings. LDS-sensor (laser scanner), when first turned on after reset, it will take time to re-scan the room.
Method 1: Reset via Mi Home (soft reset)
The safest and most recommended method is to reset via the official Mi Home app (or Xiaomi Home for newer versions), which saves the deviceโs firmware by deleting only user data, and is suitable for most models, including the Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 Pro, Dreame D9, Viomi V3 and others.
Instructions:
- Open the Mi Home app and go to the Devices (or Devices) tab.
- Choose your robot vacuum cleaner from the list.
- Press three points (โฎ) in the upper right corner and select Settings.
- Scroll down and find Reset to Factory Settings.
- Confirm the action - the vacuum cleaner will emit an audible signal and begin the procedure (it will take 1-3 minutes).
Once reset, the robot will automatically restart, and you just have to reconnect it to Wi-Fi and adjust the cleaning settings.
Make sure the vacuum cleaner is connected to the Wi-Fi network
Charge the battery by at least 30%
Save screenshots of room maps (if needed)
Disable the cleaning schedule for the time of resetting-->
โ ๏ธ Warning: If there is no reset button in the Mi Home app, upgrade it to the latest version. In older versions, this item could be called Delete Device - but it's not the same! Deletion from your account without reset will result in the vacuum cleaner remaining tied to your Mi Account.
Method 2: Hardware reset using buttons on the body
If the vacuum cleaner doesnโt connect to the app or freezes during the boot phase, hard resetting through physical buttons will help, a method that works on all Xiaomi models, including the Mi Robot Vacuum 1S, Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop P and Dreame Z10 Pro.
Instructions for most models:
- Turn off the vacuum cleaner (press the power button for 3-5 seconds until the indicator goes out).
- Hold two buttons at the same time: ๐ Power button (or Home) ๐ Back to base button (or Spot Cleaning)
10-15 seconds
Release the buttons โ the vacuum cleaner will start the reset procedure (you may need to press again for confirmation).
On some models (for example, the Viomi V2), the combination is different:
1. Press the power button for 5 seconds before turning off.
2 Press and hold the Home button for 8 seconds.
3. After the beep release and wait for the reboot. What to do if the buttons do not respond?
On models with touch buttons (such as Dreame W10), the hardware reset may not work โ use the method through the app or contact the service.
Method 3: Reset via voice assistant (for models with Alice or Google Assistant)
Some Xiaomi vacuum cleaners (such as Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 Lite) support control via voice assistants such as Alice (Yandex) or Google Assistant. In rare cases, a reset can be initiated by a voice command, but this method does not work on all firmware.
Try saying,
- ๐ค ยซAlice, reset the vacuum cleaner settings" (if the device is tied to Yandex.Station).
- ๐ค ยซOK, Google, Reset the Robot Vacuum Cleaner (for Google Home).
If the voice assistant says that the command is not supported, then your model does not allow resetting in this way, in which case use one of the previous methods.
Reset specific settings without full cleaning
Sometimes it's enough to just reset the individual functions to the factory.
| Setting up | How to drop | Models where it works |
|---|---|---|
| Map of premises | In Mi Home: Settings โ Map โ Reset the card | All models with LDS/ToF-sensor |
| Cleaning schedule | Remove all tasks in Settings โ Schedule | All models. |
| Wet cleaning settings | In Mi Home: Settings โ Wet Cleaning โ Reset | Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop, Dreame with wash function |
| Voice prompts | In Mi Home: Settings โ Sound โ Restore by default | Models with a speaker (e.g., Viomi V3) |
This selective reset will help if the problems have only one feature and the rest of the settings you want to save.
๐ก
If after resetting the map, the vacuum cleaner does not build a route well, try calibrating the sensors: put it on a flat surface and in Mi Home select Settings โ Additional โ Calibration of sensors (not available on all models).
What to do after resetting: the initial setting
After a successful discharge, Xiaomi will return to the โout of the boxโ state.
- Connect to Wi-Fi: ๐ถ Turn on the vacuum cleaner and wait for the beep. ๐ฑ In Mi Home, click Add Device (+) and choose a model. ๐ Follow the instructions on the screen (you may need to enter a password from the network).
- Update firmware: ๐ At Mi Home, go to Settings โ Update of the PO. ๐ฅ If a new version is available, install it (donโt interrupt the process!).
Set up a map and zones
- ๐บ๏ธ Start the first cleaning in Full Cleaning mode to scan the room.
- ๐งน In Mi Home, mark up rooms and add virtual walls/no-go zones.
If the vacuum cleaner does not connect to Wi-Fi after reset, check:
- ๐ Router performance (try to connect another device).
- ๐ถ Does your router support the standard? 802.11 b/g/n 2.4 GHz (Xiaomi vacuum cleaners do not work with the 5 GHz).
- ๐ Disable the firewall or guest network for the time of setting up.
๐ก
After the vacuum is discharged, the vacuum cleaner can temporarily work slower, which is normal, and it needs time to "remember" the layout of the room and optimize routes.
Common Resetting Mistakes and How to Avoid Them
Even a simple discharge procedure can go wrong.
- โ The vacuum cleaner is not discharged through the buttons: ๐ Check the battery charge (minimum 20%). ๐ Try a different button combination (see the instructions for your model). ๐ ๏ธ If the buttons are not working physically, repairs are required.
- โ After discharge, the vacuum cleaner does not turn on: ๐ Connect to the charging base for 30 minutes. ๐ Try holding the power button for 15-20 seconds to force a reboot.
- โ Cannot connect to Wi-Fi: ๐ถ Reboot the router. ๐ In Mi Home, select 2.4GHz network (even if you have a dual-band router). ๐ฑ Install Mi Home on another smartphone (sometimes it helps to change the device).
- โ App doesn't see vacuum cleaner: ๐ฑ Update Mi Home to the latest version. ๐ Check the region in your account settings (should match the vacuum cleaner purchase region). ๐ Reboot your smartphone and vacuum cleaner.
If none of these methods worked and the vacuum cleaner still doesnโt work properly, it may be a problem with the firmware or hardware, in which case we recommend contacting the official Xiaomi service.
