Important: the procedure deletes all user data, including photos, contacts, messages and installed apps. Even if you plan to reset because of the sale of the phone, check first if the device is not linked to the account Mi Account - this can lock the phone after the reset!

1.Reset preparation: what to do before the procedure

Before you start resetting, make sure you don't lose critical data. Even if the phone doesn't turn on, some files can be saved - more on that below.

If the Mi Max 2 is still working, follow these steps:

1. Open the settings (cog icon on the desktop).
2. Go to the section Additional → Recovery and Reset.
3. Select Settings Reset (may be called “Reset All Data”).

3. Method 2: Hard Reset via Recovery (if the phone is not turned on)

If the Mi Max 2 doesn’t respond to the power button, is stuck on the logo or is locked with a pattern lock, use the Recovery menu.This method works even without access to the system, but requires an unlocked bootloader (if it was blocked before).

Steps to Enter Recovery:

1. Turn off the phone (press the power button for 10-15 seconds).
2. Press both Loudness up (+) and Nutrition at the same time.
3. Hold the buttons until the Mi logo and Recovery menu appear.

Fastboot reset is the only way to bring the Mi Max 2 back to life if it doesn't turn on and go into Recovery. However, this method erases all the firmware, so after the procedure, the phone will be like new, with a stock MIUI.

5. Unlocking the bootloader: without this, the reset may not work

If you have never unlocked the bootloader on the Mi Max 2, some reset methods (especially via Fastboot) will not be available. Xiaomi locks the bootloader by default to protect against unauthorized access.

How to unlock:

1. Download Mi Unlock Tool from the official website.
