Blocked the wrong number in Xiaomi and now important calls go missing? Or accidentally added a friend to a blacklist through MIUI? Unlocking a subscriber in Redmi, POCO or Xiaomi 14 flagship models takes no more than a minute - if you know where to look for settings. The problem is that the manufacturer regularly changes the layout of the menu in new versions of the shell, and some features are hidden behind additional gestures.
In this article, we will discuss the latest MIUI 14/15 methods (including global and Chinese firmware) that work even if you donโt remember how you blocked a contact: through the Phone app, Messages or System Blacklist. We will also look at the rare cases where standard methods fail, such as when your contact database crashes or after resets.
Why a Subscriber Can Be Blocked in Xiaomi
Xiaomi phones have three independent lock mechanisms, and each requires a separate unlock:
- ๐ Blocking in the phone app: the number is added to the blacklist through the call log. Only incoming calls are prohibited, SMS are passed.
- ๐ฌ Blocking Messages: filters SMS from a specific number, but calls remain available.
- ๐ซ System Blacklist: Full lockdown (calls) + Messages), managed through Settings โ Annexes โ Blacklist.
Most people confuse the first and third options, for example, if you blocked a number through a call log (Phone โ... โ Lock), then you should look for it to unlock there - in the section Locked numbers inside the application. The system blacklist (Security โ Blacklist) works separately and may contain other numbers.
โ ๏ธ Note: If you have used third-party blocking apps (like Truecaller or Call Blocker), the standard methods will not work.
Method 1: Unlock through the call log (Phone application)
The fastest method is if you have blocked a number directly from your call history. Suitable for all Xiaomi models, including the Redmi Note 12, POCO X5 and Xiaomi 13T:
- Open the Phone app (the tube icon on the home screen).
- Go to the Journal section (bottom of the screen).
- Find the blocked number in the list or use the search (magnifying glass at the top).
- Slip the number, then press. โฎ โ Unlock.
If the number does not appear in the log, check the Blocked section inside the same app:
- In the phone app, click โฎ โ Settings โ Locked numbers.
- Find the number you want and swipe it to the left (or click Delete).
Make sure the number is not saved in contacts under another name|Check the Spam folder in your messages|Update the Phone app to the latest version on Google Play|Restart your phone if the number does not appear-->
Method 2: Removal from System Blacklist
If the number has been locked through system settings (e.g., Security โ Blacklist), unlocking through the call log will not work.
- Open the settings (cog on the main screen).
- Go to the Apps โ Blacklist (in some firmwares, the path may differ: Settings) โ PapaSSWORD & SECURITY โ Blacklist).
- Enter the screen lock password if the system requests it.
- Find the number in the list and swipe it left or click Delete.
On Chinese firmware (China ROM), the path may look different:
Settings โ Additional โ Privacy โ Blacklistโ ๏ธ Attention: B MIUI Section 15 The blacklist is sometimes hidden. To find it, search the settings (laptop of the screen) and type in the "blacklist" request".
What to do if the blacklist is empty?
Method 3: Unlocking through the Messages application
If you have blocked the number for SMS, but not for calls, unlocking is done through the Messages app:
- Open the Messages (the envelope icon).
- Press on. โฎ โ Spam and blocked.
- Go to the tab "Blocked".
- Find the number and press Unblock.
In some versions of MIUI, the path may be different:
Messages โ โฎ โ Settings โ Spam filter โ BlacklistImportant: If the number is locked in both the Phone and Messages, you need to unlock it in both places separately.

Method 4: Use MIUI Security (for Chinese firmware)
On devices with China ROM (such as Xiaomi 12S Ultra or Redmi K50 Pro), the Security app (shield icon) is used to control locks.
- Open Security (if there is no icon, search by app).
- Go to the Blacklist (may be called Blocklist in English).
- Sign in with a password or fingerprint.
- Remove the number from the list by swipe to the left or through the Remove button.
If the Security app is missing, try an alternative path:
Settings โ Password & Security โ Privacy โ Blacklist๐ก
On Chinese firmware, sometimes changing the system region to "India" or "Global" helps. To do this, go to Settings โ Additional โ Region and select another country. After rebooting, the Blacklist section may appear in the usual place.
Method 5: Unlocking through Contact Editing
If the blocked number is saved in your contacts, you can unlock it directly from the contact card:
- Open the Contacts app.
- Find the right contact through a search or in a list.
- Slip it, then tap it. โฎ โ Unblock (or Remove from the blacklist).
If there is no Unblock option, then the number is blocked not through the contact, but through the call log or system settings - use Methods 1-4.
| Locking method | Where to look for unlocking | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Through the call log | Phone. โ Journal โ โฎ โ Blocked. | Only blocks calls. |
| Through Messages | Communications โ โฎ โ Spam and blocked | Only SMS blocks. |
| Systemic blacklist | Settings โ Applications โ Blacklist | Blocking calls + SMS |
| Through contact | Contacts โ [name] โ โฎ โ Unlock. | It only works for saved numbers. |
What to do if the number is not unlocked
In 5% of cases, standard methods don't work.
- ๐ Phone reboot: sometimes the contact database hangs. Just turn off and turn on the device.
- ๐ฑ Cache Clearing: Go to Settings โ Annexes โ Application management โ Telephone/Messages โ Clear the cache.
- ๐ง Resetting network settings: Settings โ SIM-maps and mobile networks โ Network reset. It doesn't delete data, it resets call settings.
- ๐ฒ Update MIUI: In older versions of the shell, there were lock bugs. Check the updates in Settings โ The phone. โ Updating the system.
If nothing works, the last option is to reset your phone (but it will delete all the data!).

Before resetting, make sure to check if your contacts are synchronized with your Google or Mi Account account, which will allow you to restore numbers after the reset.
