Why Verification Is Important for Xiaomi Owners
Xiaomi device verification is a security system that confirms the authenticity of the gadget and its compliance with the manufacturerβs standards. Without this procedure, you will not be able to use the official services of the brand, receive MIUI updates or even unlock the bootloader.
In 2023, Xiaomi tightened its verification policy by adding new verification mechanisms to combat counterfeit devices and unauthorized modifications. Now itβs not enough to just enter a Mi Account, the system analyzes the IMEI, serial number, and even the history of the deviceβs use. If your smartphone or smart gadget suddenly stopped receiving updates or gives an error when you log in, the first reason is verification problems.
In this article, we will discuss all the current ways to verify the status of verification for Xiaomi smartphones, TVs and smart devices, including official methods through MIUI and hidden engineering menus, and learn what to do if verification does not pass, and how to avoid blocking your account when buying used equipment.
Method 1: Verification through MIUI settings (for smartphones)
The easiest and safest method is to use the built-in MIUI tools. It is suitable for all Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO smartphones based on Android 10 and later. Important: before checking, make sure that your device is connected to the Internet (preferably via Wi-Fi), as the system sends a request to Xiaomi servers.
Step instructions:
- Open the Settings. β The phone.
- Tap 5-7 times on the MIUI version until the notification βYou became a developerβ appears.
- Return to the main settings menu and select Additional settings β For developers.
- Find the Device Status section (or Mi Unlock Status in the newer versions).
- Check the line "Verified Xiaomi." If it says Yes, your device has passed the test.
βοΈ What to do if the "Status of the device" section is not available
β οΈ Note: Some models (e.g. Xiaomi) 12T Or the Redmi Note 11 Pro.+) If it says Locked, it means that the bootloader is locked, but the verification itself can be passed.
Method 2: Checking through the engineering menu (codes #)
For power users, there is an alternative method through hidden engineering menus, which works even on devices without access to settings (for example, after a reset) and allows you to get advanced information about the verification status. Importantly, not all codes work on new models due to the limitations of MIUI 14+.
The main commands for verification:
- π± ##4636## - General test menu (Section "Phone Information").Look for Xiaomi Auth Status.
- π ##7594## - Direct lock/verification menu (not available on all models).
- π‘ ##284## β Checking the connection with Xiaomi servers (useful if verification is not successful due to network problems).
What do the statuses in the engineering menu mean?
On the POCO F4 GT and Xiaomi 13 Ultra models, the engineering menu can be blocked, in which case, try entering the code through the Phone app, rather than through the keyboard on the lock screen. If the menu does not open, this does not mean verification problems - just the manufacturer restricted access.
Method 3: Online check through the official Xiaomi website
If you donβt trust built-in tools or want to check the device before you buy, use the official verification service on the Xiaomi website. This method is suitable for smartphones, tablets and even smart watches Mi Band or Xiaomi Watch. IMEI or serial number of the device.
Step-by-step:
- Go to https://www.mi.com/global/verify (for global versions) or https://www.mi.com/cn/verify (for Chinese).
- Enter IMEI (can be found via *#06# or on the device box) or serial number (under the battery or in settings).
- Enter the captcha and press Verify.
- The system will show the status of Genuine Mi Product (original device) or Invalid IMEI (verification problem).
| Status on the site | Meaning | Action |
|---|---|---|
| Genuine Mi Product | The device is original and verified | You can use all Xiaomi services |
| Invalid IMEI | IMEI not found in database or blocked | Check the IMEI again or contact support |
| Device Not Found | The device is not listed in the Xiaomi database | Probably fake or "grey" imports |
| Verification Failed | Error of communication with servers | Try again later or use a VPN |
β οΈ Note: On Chinese devices (e.g. Xiaomi) 12S Ultra or Redmi K50 Pro) checking through a global site may show an error even on the original devices, in which case use the Chinese version of the service or check through the service. MIUI.
Method 4: Verification check on Xiaomi Mi TVs
Xiaomi Mi TV and Redmi TV smart TVs are also being verified, but the verification process is different from smartphones, with the main problem being the lack of engineering menus and limited customization functionality, and the combination of keys on the remote and hidden service options will help.
How to check the verification on Mi TV:
- πΊ Press the remote sequentially: Menu β Settings (βοΈ) β All settings β About the device.
- π Scroll down to Activation Status (or Device Activation on global firmware).
- π If it says Activated, the TV is verified. If it's not activated, you need to link to your Mi Account.
- π For forced inspection: pinch on the Menu remote control + Volume Down for 5 seconds β the TV will reboot and sync status with the servers.
On Mi TV Q2 75" and later, you may need additional verification via the Mi Home app. If the TV is not activated, try:
- Untie him from his Mi Home account (if he was previously linked).
- Reset the settings to factory (Settings β System β Reset).
- Connect to another Wi-Fi network (sometimes blocked due to regional restrictions)
π‘
If the Xiaomi TV doesnβt pass verification, try connecting it to the internet via an Ethernet cable β this eliminates DNS issues that often block activation.
Method 5: Checking smart devices (Mi Band, smart lamps, robot vacuum cleaners)
Xiaomiβs smart gadgets, from the Mi Band 7 fitness bracelets to the Mi Robot Vacuum robot vacuum cleaners, also require verification, but the process is very different. Here, the Mi Home app and regional server binding play a key role, and if the device is not verified, it can work with restrictions or not connect at all.
How to check status:
- Open the Mi Home app and find your device in the list.
- Slip it and select the settings (βοΈ) β Device information.
- Check the Status or Status line: π’ Normal β the device is verified. π‘ Limited β partial restrictions (for example, no updates). π΄ Unauthorized β verification not passed.
For devices purchased in China (such as the Xiaomi Mi Air Purifier 4), you may need to change your region to the Mi Home.
- In the account settings, select Region.
- Change to China (Mainland China).
- Restart the application and repeat the device binding.
- Call for support: π§ Write in official support with a photo of the box, IMEI and check. π Please provide a screenshot of the verification error.
β οΈ Note: If you bought a device with your hands and the seller did not untie it from your Mi Account, verification may be blocked due to the link to another user. In this case, unlocking through the Mi Unlock Tool is required, but it is only available after a 7-day wait (Xiaomi rule for theft protection).
