Why does Xiaomi require a Google account confirmation after a reset?
Hard resets on Xiaomi, Redmi or POCO often result in a screen requiring you to enter your previous Google account (FRP) with a security feature that Google has implemented in Android 5.1+ to protect against data theft, but if you forget your password or buy your device βhands-onβ without the ability to contact your previous owner, this protection becomes a headache.
In MIUI 14/15, FRP is even more restrictive, blocking access not only to the main interface, but also to Settings, Restore Mode and even Fastboot on some models, which the manufacturer motivates to fight fraud, but users face the problem of legal bypassing β for example, after buying a used phone or self-reset due to hanging. Next, we will analyze 5 proven ways to circumvent confirmation, including methods without a PC and using ADB.
β οΈ Important: All of the described methods are designed to legally restore access to your own device. The use of them to hack into other people's gadgets is punishable by law (Article 272 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).
Method 1: Bypassing FRP through an emergency call (without a PC)
The easiest way to do this is to run on most Xiaomi models with MIUI 12-15 (including Redmi Note 10/11, POCO X3/X4). This is if you see a greeting screen with an "Emergency Call" button after reset.
Algorithm of action:
- π Click on the "Emergency Call" button on the lock screen.
- π’ Enter any number (e.g. 112) and click on the Add Contact icon (usually in the upper right corner).
- π± In the "Name" field, enter any text, and in the "Phone" field - ##4636## (code test menu).
- π§ Save the contact, then click on it β the Testing menu will open".
- π² Go to Settings. β The phone. β Version. MIUI and tap it 7 times to activate Developer Mode.
- π Back to Settings β Additionally. β For developers and include "Debugging by" USB".
- π Connect your phone to Wi-Fi, then reboot it β lock FRP will be dropped.
π‘ Note: Some firmwares don't open the test menu after entering ##4636##, in which case try the alternative code: ##284## (sensor test).
Compatibility table with Xiaomi models
| Model | Emergency call. | ADB | Mi Account | Fastboot |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Redmi Note 10/11 | β Yes. | β Yes. | β Yes. | β No. |
| POCO X3 Pro | β Yes. | β Yes. | β οΈ Partially. | β Yes. |
| Mi 11 Lite | β No. | β Yes. | β Yes. | β Yes. |
| Redmi 9A/9C | β Yes. | β No. | β Yes. | β No. |

If nothing happens after you enter the test menu code, try using the Google Gboard keyboard (you can install it via an emergency call if you have access to the Play Market).
Method 2: Use of ADB (for advanced users)
If the previous method didnβt work and the phone has USB debugging enabled (even if you havenβt activated it before), you can try removing FRP via ADB (Android Debug Bridge), which requires a computer with Xiaomi drivers installed and ADB/Fastboot tools installed.
Step-by-step:
- Download and install Googleβs Platform Tools.
- Connect your phone to your PC through USB-cable (original!).
- Open the command prompt (cmd) in the adb folder and type: adb devices If the device is identified, go further. If not, install the Mi USB Driver drivers.
- Enter the commands in turn: adb shell content insert --uri content://settings/secure --bind name:s:user_setup_complete --bind value:s:1 exit adb reboot
- After the reboot, the FRP lock should disappear.
β οΈ Attention: MIUI 14+ This method may not work because of the extra checks, so try an alternative command:
adb shell am start -n com.google.android.gsf.login/(The full path depends on the firmware version).
Install Platform Tools| Download Mi USB Driver| Enable USB debugging (if possible)| Connect the original cable | Check device definition in ADB-->
Method 3: Sign in via Mi Account (official method)
If you previously had a Mi Account attached on your phone, you can use it to unlock it, which is 100% legal and works even on the latest versions of MIUI.
How to do this:
- π On the lock screen FRP Select the "Sign in via Mi Account" option (if any).
- π§ Enter your email and password from your Xiaomi account (the one that was tied before the reset).
- π± If no data is available, go to account.xiaomi.com and restore access via the linked phone number.
- π After successful authorization, the device will unlock and offer to configure it as new.
Important: If you bought your phone with your hands, ask the seller for details from your Mi Account or check if your account is untied via Xiaomiβs website (Devices section).
What to do if your Mi Account is not tied?
Method 4: Fastboot bypass (for tech-savvy)
If none of the previous methods worked, and the phone unlocked the bootloader, you can try to reset FRP via Fastboot. This method is suitable for models with Qualcomm processors (for example, Redmi Note 10 Pro, POCO X3 NFC).
Instructions:
- Turn off your phone and press the Power button + Volume down to log into the Fastboot.
- Connect the device to the PC and check its detection by the command: fastboot devices
- Enter the command to reset FRP: fastboot erase frp or (for new firmware): fastboot erase config
- Reboot the phone: fastboot reboot
β οΈ Note: On bootloader locked devices, this method will not work. To unlock the bootloader, you need to get permission from Xiaomi through the official website (the process takes up to 72 hours).
π‘
Fastboot is the most reliable method, but requires an unlocked bootloader. If the bootloader is locked, unlock it first through the Mi Unlock Tool.
Method 5: Alternative methods (for specific cases)
If standard methods don't work, you can try lesser-known workarounds, which are suitable for individual models or versions of MIUI.
Method A: Through the Special Opportunities Menu
On some firmware (e.g. MIUI 13 for Redmi 9) you can bypass FRP as follows:
- On the lock screen, click "Special Opportunities" (the icon of the person in the circle).
- Select "TalkBack" and activate it.
- Return to the lock screen, swipe two fingers down to open the notification panel.
- Click Settings and go to Apps β Google Play Services β Memory β Space Management.
- Clear the cache and data, then restart the phone.
Method B: Through OTG-cable and file manager
It's gonna take a while. OTG-cable FRP_Bypass.apk (can be downloaded from the forums XDA or 4PDA).
- π Connect the flash drive through OTG phone-in.
- π On the lock screen, select Files (if there is such a item).
- π Find it. FRP_Bypass.apk on a flash drive and set it up.
- π Launch the app and follow the instructions on the screen.
β οΈ Attention: Installation APK Use only verified files from trusted resources (for example, use only verified files from unknown sources, XDA Developers).
What do you do if nothing works?
If all of these methods do not help, there are two options:
- Contact the Xiaomi Service Center. π Find the nearest authorized service. π Bring a check or confirmation of purchase (if the phone is new). π³ Service paid (from 1000 to 3000 rubles depending on the model).
Flick the phone over EDL.
This is an extreme method, requiring special hardware (EDL cable) and firmware, suitable for power users or wizards. 4PDA forums have detailed guides for specific models (e.g. here).
π‘ Advice: Before refashioning save IMEI phone (can be found on the box or under the battery) EDL he can drop off.
