Xiaomi devices β whether smartphones, TVs or smart gadgets β sometimes require a forced restart. The reasons range from banal freezes to critical failures after a software update. But not everyone knows that you can βrebootβ in different ways: softly (without loss of data), hardly (with a full reset) or through firmware (if the system is damaged).
Itβs important to understand that the way you restart depends on the type of device and the situation. For example, a hanging Redmi Note 12 smartphone is rebooted with the power button pressed, and a Mi TV Q2 after a failed update is rebooted through recovery mode. Weβll look at options for smartphones, TVs, routers and smartwatches, and also tell you how to avoid typical errors that turn a restart into a brick.
If your Xiaomi device doesn't respond to buttons, or it doesn't react to buttons, or it doesn't work smoothly, don't panic. 90 percent of the time, it's the right restart that solves the problem, and the key is to choose the right method and follow the instructions without improvisation.
1.Soft reboot: when the device "thought"
The safest way is soft reboot, which doesn't delete data, doesn't reset settings, and works even in minor crashes.
- π± Smartphones Xiaomi/Redmi/POCO (If the screen is frozen, but reacts to touch)
- πΊ Mi TVs TV (pendant)
- β Smart watches Mi Band or Xiaomi Watch (if not synchronized)
For smartphones and tablets:
- Press the power button for 10-15 seconds.
- Wait for the turn off menu (if the screen reacts) or forced reboot to appear.
- Select Restart (Restart).
For Xiaomi TVs:
- On the remote, press the Power + Home for 5-7 seconds.
- If the remote is not working, disconnect the TV from the outlet for 30 seconds, then turn it on again.
When a soft reboot won't help:
- π« The device does not respond to buttons at all (black screen, no vibration).
- π« After switching on, the Mi logo appears and does not go on.
- π« The system emits a Bootloop error (cyclic reboot).
π‘
If the Xiaomi smartphone is getting stuck on the lock screen, try connecting it to charging β sometimes it will βwake upβ the system without restarting.
2 Hard Reset: When the soft method doesn't work
Hard Reset is a forced reboot through hardware buttons, which helps when the device is not fully responding, but does not delete user data (as opposed to factory reset).
- π΅ Smartphones with black screen or endless loading.
- πΊ TVs stuck on Mi logo TV.
- π Devices that do not respond to charging.
Instructions for smartphones Xiaomi/Redmi/POCO:
- Press the Power + Volume button for 10-20 seconds.
- Release when the device vibrates or the Mi logo appears.
- If it doesnβt work, try the Power + Volume combination.
For Mi TVs:
- Turn off the TV.
- Press the power button on the case (not on the remote!).
- Connect the power without releasing the button, hold it for another 10-15 seconds.
What to do if the smartphone vibrates but does not turn on?
β οΈ Note: Some models (e.g. Xiaomi) 12T or Redmi K50) If you see the word Fastboot mode, release the buttons and try again.
3. factory reset: Last chance before firmware
If the device is powered on but is not running smoothly (laggit, bugs, no updates), Factory Reset will help, which deletes all data, including apps, accounts, and files, so back up first.
Resetting methods:
- π± Through the settings menu (if the system is working): Go to Settings β The phone. β Resetting settings β Erase all data.
- π§ Recovery Mode (if the system is not booting): Turn off the device β Squeeze the power. + Volume up. β In the menu, select Wipe Data. β Factory Reset.
For Mi TVs:
- On the remote, click Settings β All settings β Device β Reset settings.
- Enter. PIN-code (default 0000 or 1234).
- Confirm the reset.
Make a backup copy of photos and contacts|Remember passwords from accounts|Remove the memory card (if any)|Connect the device to charging|Check that version MIUI not less than 12 (for correct discharge)-->
| The device | Combination for Recovery | Retention time |
|---|---|---|
| Xiaomi 13/14, Redmi Note 12 | Power + Volume Increase | 10-15 sec. |
| POCO F5, Xiaomi Pad 6 | Power + Volume reduction | 12.20 sec. |
| Mi TV A2/Q2 | Power button on the case + connection to the network | 15 seconds |
| Xiaomi Router | Reset button (hole on the back panel) | 30 seconds. |
β οΈ Note: On devices with an unlocked bootloader, a factory reset may result in the Mi Account being blocked. If you forget your password, restore it before resetting!
4. Fastboot firmware: if the system is damaged
If the device doesn't turn on even after resetting, or if it produces errors like No command, DM-Verity corruption, you'll need firmware through Fastboot, which restores the system from scratch, but requires a PC and special tools.
What you need:
- π» Windows computer (or Mac/Linux s ADB).
- π Cable USB (original, undamaged).
- π Firmware for your model (download from the official Xiaomi website).
- π Mi Flash Tool (for Windows) or fastboot in the terminal.
Step-by-step:
- Turn off the device.
- Press Power + Volume Down to enter the Fastboot (a hare in a hat-out of a hat will appear).
- Connect to your PC and start the Mi Flash Tool.
- Select the downloaded firmware (file with the extension.tgz or.zip).
- Press Refresh β Flash and wait for the end (5-10 minutes).
For power users: firmware via ADB Sideload (if Recovery works, but Fastboot doesnβt):
adb sideload firmware.zipπ‘
Fastboot removes all data, including /data partition. If you want to save internal memory, use Fastboot + save userdata (not available on all models).
5.Reset routers and smart devices Xiaomi
Xiaomi's smart devices -- routers, light bulbs, cameras -- also sometimes require a reboot.
For the Xiaomi Mi Router routers:
- π Soft reboot: In the web interface (192.168.31.1) select System Tools β Reboot.
- π Hard reboot: Press the Reset button on the back (hold 5 seconds).
- β‘ Reset to factory: Hold Reset for 30 seconds (all settings reset).
For Yeelight smart lamps or Mi Home Security cameras:
- Turn off the device for 10 seconds, then turn it on again.
- If it doesnβt work, reset via the Mi Home app: select the device β Settings β Delete the device (this will result in a reset).
For smart watches Mi Band or Xiaomi Watch:
- Connect to the charger.
- Press the touch button for 15-20 seconds (before vibration).
- If you donβt respond, use the Zepp or Mi Fitness app to reset.
6. Common mistakes and how to avoid them
Even a simple reboot can be a problem if you do it wrong.
- π Reboot on low battery charge (less than 20%).Risk: the device will turn off during the process and not turn on.Solution: Connect to charge before restarting.
- π Using a non-original cable in firmware.Risk: communication cut and bricking.Solution: Use Xiaomi's proprietary cable.
- π± Reset to factory settings without leaving your Mi Account. Risk: locking your device. Solution: Delete your account in Settings β Accounts before reset.
Another common problem is Bootloop, which is:
- Bad software update.
- Install custom recavator (TWRP) without unlocking the loader.
- Damage to /system partition.
How to get out of Bootloop:
- Try logging in to Recovery (Nutrition + Volume Up) and making Wipe Cache.
- If it doesnβt work, run the device through Fastboot (instructions in Section 4).
- For older models (such as the Redmi 4X), a rollback to an earlier version of MIUI can help.
7.When restarting doesn't help: hardware problems
If none of these methods worked, it could be a hardware problem.
- π The device does not turn on even after charging (possibly a faulty battery or power controller).
- π₯ Overheats when you try to turn on (short circuit on the motherboard).
- π§ Traces of oxidation or moisture under the lid (liquid ingestion).
- π± The screen remains black, but the device vibrates when charging is connected (display plume problem).
What to do:
- π§ Contact the Xiaomi Service Center (if guaranteed).
- π Check the battery contacts (for experienced users).
- π¦ If the device is older than 3-4 years, it may be more profitable to buy a new one.
β οΈ Warning: Don't disassemble the device yourself unless you're confident in your skills! leakage (e.g. Xiaomi 13 Ultra) can cause dust to hit the camera or display.
