Why Xiaomi’s 32-inch TV might require a restart
Xiaomi’s Mi TV 32 series (including the 4A, 4S, 4C and 5A models) run on Android TV or PatchWall’s proprietary shell. Like any smart appliance, they sometimes crash: they hang on the logo, don’t respond to the remote, slow down when apps start or refuse to turn on. 80% of the time, the problem is solved by a banal reboot – but not everyone knows how to do it correctly.
The main reasons why a reboot may be necessary are:
- 🔄 System freeze after firmware update or application installation;
- 📶 Loss of communication with the remote (especially important for models with Bluetooth-based Mi Remote remotes);
- 🖥️ Artifacts on screen - flickering, stripes, color distortion;
- 🔌 Incorrect power outage (for example, pulled a plug from the socket while working).
In this article, we will discuss all the official and hidden ways of rebooting, including soft restart, hard reset and recovery through the service menu. TV (Like Mi. TV Q2 32′′ and older versions of Android 9.
Method 1: Soft reboot via the settings menu
The safest method is to use the built-in reboot option in the system menu, which is suitable if the TV responds to the remote control but is unstable (brakes, lags, does not open applications).
Instructions:
- Press the Settings button on the Xiaomi remote.
- Go to Settings → Device → Reboot (or About → Restart in English firmware).
- Confirm the action by selecting OK or Restart now.
Record the current sound and image settings (photo on the phone)
Close all open applications (Netflix, YouTube, etc.)
Disable external devices (flash drives, sound panels)
Make sure the TV is connected to the outlet (not through the extension cord)

⚠️ Warning: If the TV freezes again after the reboot, the cause may lie in the damaged app cache, in which case the factory reset will help (see Method 4).
On models with Google TV (e.g. Mi TV Q2 32), the path to reboot may be different:

If the Xiaomi 32 TV doesn’t respond to the remote or hangs on the logo, a forced restart with a physical button will help.This method works on all models, including the Mi TV 4A 32, 4S 32 and 5A 32.
How to do this:
- Find the power button on the TV body. It's usually located there: 📍 On the bottom right (models) 4A/4C); 📍 Under the Mi logo (y) 4S/5A); 📍 On the back (some versions for the European market).
10-15 seconds
Release the button, wait 30 seconds, then turn on the TV again.

If the power button is recessed in the case and it is difficult to press, use a ballpoint pen or a paper clip. Do not use excessive force - this can damage the mechanism!

⚠️ Warning: Do not confuse a hard reboot with a hardware reset (see Method 5). Forced restart does not delete data, but can interrupt background processes (for example, firmware updates). If the TV is updated, wait until the process is completed (the indicator flashes white)!

Method 3: Reboot via remote (hidden combination)
Few people know, but Xiaomi TVs have a hidden button combination on the remote that forcibly restarts the system, a method that is useful if the settings menu is not available, but the remote works.
Instructions:
- Make sure the TV is on (even if the screen is black, but the light is on).
- On the Xiaomi remote, simultaneously press and hold: Menu + Home + Back
- Hold the buttons for 5-7 seconds until the TV is turned off.
- Wait 30 seconds and turn on the TV with the power button.
This combination works on PatchWall and Android TV 9/10. On models with Google TV (e.g. Mi TV Q2), instead of Menu, use Settings.
Why does this method work?
If the combination does not work, check:
- 🔋 Battery charge in the remote (replace with new ones);
- 📶 Distance to TV (maximum 5 meters);
- 🔍 Is there any obstacle between the remote and the IR receiver.
Method 4: Reset to factory settings (if the reboot didn't help)
If the Xiaomi 32 TV continues to glittle after the reboot — for example, spontaneously switches channels, does not save settings or gives an error “Unfortunately, Launcher has stopped” — you will have to reset to factory settings, which will delete all installed applications, accounts and personal data.
How to reset your settings:
- Open the Settings menu → The device → Resetting settings (or Settings) → Device Preferences → Reset).
- Choose to erase everything (Erase everything).
- Enter. PIN-code (by default 0000 or 1234 if you have not changed it).
- Confirm the action and wait for the completion (it will take 3-5 minutes).
💡
Resetting to factory settings does not remove firmware updates. After the procedure, the TV will be on the same version of the software, but with clean settings.
⚠️ Note: On Google models TV (Like Mi. TV Q2 32′′ after reset, you will need to re-enter your Google and Xiaomi account. If you forget your password, restore it in advance at accounts.google.com.
If the TV does not respond to the remote and the menu is not available, use a hardware reset (see the next section).
Method 5: Hardware reset (if the TV is not turned on)
The last method is a full reset via the service menu, which is needed if:
- 🔴 The TV is not turned on (the indicator does not burn or flashes red);
- 🔄 Hangs on the Mi or Android logo;
- 🚫 Does not respond to the remote or the power button.
Instructions for Xiaomi Mi TV 32:
- Turn off the TV from the outlet.
- Press and hold the power button on the body.
- Without releasing the button, connect the power cord to the socket.
- Hold the button for another 15-20 seconds until the recovery menu appears.
- In the menu, select Wipe data/factory reset (move – volume buttons, confirmation – power button).
- After reset, select Reboot system now.
⚠️ Note: On some models (e.g. Mi) TV 4C 32) the service menu may be opened by another combination: Hold "Power" + Press "Loudness" 3 times +".
If the first method didn’t work, try this one.
After the hardware reset, the TV will turn on in initial settings.
- 🌍 Choose a language and region;
- 📶 Connect to Wi-Fi;
- 🔑 Sign in to a Google account (required for Google) TV);
- 📺 Set up channels (if you use a TV tuner).
What to do if the Xiaomi 32 TV doesn’t restart
If none of these methods worked, the problem may be:
- Faulty power supply - check the indicator (if not burning at all, contact the service);
- Damaged firmware – you need to reflash through USB (instruction below);
- Hardware breakdown (for example, the motherboard failed).
🔧 Flip-through USB:
- Download the official firmware for your model from the Xiaomi Support website.
- Unpack the archive and copy the update.zip file to the flash drive (FAT32 format).
- Turn off the TV, insert the flash drive into the USB port.
- Press and hold Power + Volume + until the update menu appears.
- Select the Apply update from USB and wait until it is completed.

Before you use USB, disconnect all external devices (set-top boxes, soundbars, TV boxes) from your TV, reducing the risk of hardware conflicts.
