In this article, we will look at all the possible ways to reboot Xiaomi Mi TV, Redmi Smart TV and other models on Android TV – from standard shutdown to forced reset. You will learn when a soft reboot is enough, and when you need a hardware reset through a button on the case that restores work even when the system is completely freezed.
When you need to reboot Android TV from Xiaomi
Rebooting is not a cure-all, but it helps in 80% of non-critical crashes, and here are the typical situations where you should try restarting:
- 🖥️ The interface slows down or apps (YouTube, Netflix) constantly crash with an error.
- 🎮 The remote doesn’t work, although the batteries are charged (the problem may be in the software, not the hardware).
- 🔊 No sound or the image “twitches”, although the source of the signal (prefix, cable) is fine.
- 🔄 The update was stuck at the installation stage (but not interrupted!).
- 📶 Wi-Fi or Bluetooth are turned off arbitrarily, although the router is stable.
If the TV is not turning on at all (no indication, the screen is black), a reboot is unlikely to help - you need a diagnosis of the power supply or motherboard. Otherwise, start with a soft restart.
Method 1: Standard shutdown via menu
The safest method is to use the built-in Android TV features, which is suitable if the TV responds to the remote, but is unstable.
- Press the Settings button on the Xiaomi remote.
- Go to Settings → System → Reboot and Reset (on some models, the path may differ: Settings → Device → Reboot).
- Select Reboot and confirm the action.
If there is no Reboot option, use an alternative path:
- 🔘 Press and hold the Power button on the remote for 3-5 seconds.
- 📺 In the menu that appears, select Reboot (do not turn off!).

Method 2: Forced reboot with a button on the body

Method 5: Reboot through the socket (extreme case)
If the TV doesn't respond to the buttons or the remote, you have to physically shut down the power, and this is a risky method, which can damage the file system if you're recording data at the time of the shutdown, and only use it if you:

Shutting down the socket is NOT a safe reboot. Use it only if other methods have not worked, and be prepared for possible system errors once turned on.
Frequent Mistakes and How to Avoid Them
The wrong steps in rebooting can make the problem worse, as Xiaomi TV users make common mistakes:
- ❌ Interrupt the update by restarting. If the screen says System Update..., wait until it is completed (even if it takes 20 hours).+ minute).
- ❌ Press the buttons repeatedly. If the TV doesn't respond, hold the button for 10 to 15 seconds instead of poking it over and over again.
- ❌ Use of non-original cables for ADB. This can lead to failures in the firmware.
