How to turn off the password on the Xiaomi phone: all working ways

Forgot your Xiaomi password and can't unlock your phone? Or just want to remove the security because it's getting in the way? In this article, you'll find all the current ways to undo your password on Redmi, POCO, Mi and other brands, from standard settings to emergency methods through Fastboot and Recovery.

We will look at both data retention and full reset (if there is no other way out). USB-If you are reading this article in advance, be sure to set them up now so that you do not lose access to your phone in the future.

All instructions are tested on current MIUI 14/15 firmware (including global and Chinese versions) and work on models from the Redmi Note 10 to the flagship Xiaomi 14 Ultra. Older devices (until 2018) may require additional steps - we will mention them too.

On some firmware (e.g. Chinese), the path may be slightly different: Settings → Additional → Privacy → Screen lock. If you don't find a point, search by settings (the magnifier icon at the top).

If after disabling the password, the phone asks you to enter it again when you reboot it, this is a feature of MIUI. To remove the request completely, turn off the option to Request a password when you start in the same lock menu.

2. Reset password through Mi Account (if linked)

If you forget your password, but your phone is tied to your Xiaomi account, you can reset the lock via a website, which works even on a locked device, but requires:

• 🌐 Internet access on the phone (Wi-Fi or mobile network).
• 📧 Access to email/phone linked to Mi Account.
• 🔄 Synchronization enabled (if previously disabled - the method will not work).

Step-by-step:

1. On the locked screen, click Forgot Password? (or Forgot Password).
2. Choose Restore through Mi Account.
3. Enter the username (email/phone) and password from the Xiaomi account.
4. Confirm the action via SMS or email (code will come).
5. Create a new lock password or disable it completely.

If the screen does not have a button Forgot the password?, try entering the wrong password 5 times - a prompt should appear. On some models (for example, POCO F5), the recovery path is hidden behind the Emergency Call → Recovery button.

3 Unlocking via Fastboot (without data loss)

The method for advanced users that previously included USB-Debugging and accessing a PC, allows you to delete your password without resetting your data, but requires drivers installed ADB/Fastboot Mi Flash Unlock tool.

⚠️ Warning: This only works on bootloader devices, and if you've never officially unlocked it through the Mi Unlock Tool, it won't work, and it's not suitable for encrypted phones. FBE (File-Based Encryption, which is enabled by default in new versions MIUI.

Instructions:

1. Download and install the Mi Unlock Tool (the official tool from Xiaomi).
2. Turn off the phone and press Volume Down + Power to log into the Fastboot.
3. Connect your phone to your PC via USB.
4. Launch the Mi Unlock Tool, log in to your Mi Account and follow the program instructions.

If other methods fail, it's a factory reset, which will delete all the data on the phone, including photos, messages and apps, but it's guaranteed to unlock the device, and it works even without the Mi Account attached.

Instructions for entering Recovery:

5 Unlocking through Xiaomi Service Centers

If the independent methods do not work, you have to contact the official service center, which is the only legal way to unlock the phone without a password and Mi Account, but it is paid and requires proof of ownership.

What will be required:

• 📄 Check or box from the phone (proof of purchase).
• 🆔 Passport of the owner (must match the data in the check).
• 💳 Payment for the service (from 1000 to 3 000 rubles depending on the model).

The process takes from 1 to 5 working days.

1. IMEI checks for originality (isn’t the phone stolen)
2. Reset protection through special software (available only from official partners).
3. Reflash the device if necessary.

⚠️ Warning: Unofficial “masters” often use illegal unlocking methods (e.g., through firmware exploits), which can lead to the use of unauthorised “masters” in the Internet:

6. Alternative methods (for experienced users)

If the standard methods didn't work, you can try advanced methods, but they require technical skills and carry risks. We're just going to give them a look at -- use them at your own risk.

Method 1: Delete blocking files via ADB

It works if USB-The debugging was on before the lockdown:

1. Connect the phone to your PC and run the command: adb shell rm /data/system/gesture.key or for PIN: adb shell rm /data/system/password.key
2. Reboot the phone.

On newer versions of MIUI (13+), this method often doesn’t work because of the changed password storage structure.

Method 2: Firmware through EDL

EDL (Emergency Download Mode) allows you to flash your phone without locking, but requires:

• 💻 Mi Flash Tool and original firmware for your model.
• 🔓 Unlocked bootloader (otherwise the firmware will not stand up).

When trying to undo a password on Xiaomi, users often face typical problems, and here are the most common ways to solve them:

Error 1: This device is tied to a Mi Account

Appears after reset via Recovery on phones with a locked bootloader.

• 📧 If you forget your data, restore access via account.xiaomi.com.
• 🏢 If your account is not yours (phone purchased from hand) - contact the service center with a check.

Error 2: “I failed to unlock the bootloader”

It comes from the Mi Unlock Tool for several reasons:
