Parental controls on Xiaomi Mi TV 9A are a useful feature for content restriction, but sometimes it becomes an obstacle to full use of the TV. You may have forgotten the PIN, bought a used device with activated restrictions, or just want to return full access to the settings. In this article, we will discuss all the current ways to disable parental controls on models 2020-2023 with the shell PatchWall 4.0 and later.
Itβs important to understand that the methods vary depending on whether you know the current PIN, whether you have access to a Mi Account tied to the TV, and whether you are ready to reset your settings. Weβll look at the options from the simplest (through the menu) to the most radical (full reset), and how to bypass the lock without losing data and what to do if the TV requires a password from the previous owner.
We warn you that some actions may result in the loss of personal data (saved applications, Wi-Fi settings, accounts). We recommend that you write down important information in advance or make a backup through Settings β Account and Security β Backup.
1. disable parental control through settings (if you know the PIN)
The most obvious and safe way to do this is to use a standard menu, which is fine if you remember the PIN or it wasn't changed by the previous owner. On the Mi TV 9A, the way to set up may be slightly different depending on the PatchWall version, but the overall pattern is the same:
- Open Settings (cog in the upper right corner of the main screen).
- Go to Account and Security (or Security in older versions).
- Select Parental Control.
- Enter the current PIN (often used by default is 0000, 1234 or 1111).
- Turn off the function with a switch or press Remove the PIN code.
If the PIN doesn't work, the system will suggest that you restore it through Mi Account, which we'll discuss in the next section, and in the meantime, check if the default code is simple, and many users don't change it after you first set it up.

On some Xiaomi Mi TV 9A firmware, parental controls are hidden in System β Additional. If you don't find a safe item, check this path.
2. Restoration of access through Mi Account (if the account is tied)
If the TV is linked to a Xiaomi account, you can reset the PIN through it, which works even if you don't remember the current code, but you have access to an email/phone linked to the Mi Account.
- π± From your phone/computer: Open account.xiaomi.com and log in.
- π Go to Device Management β Find your Mi. TV 9A list.
- π Select Reset Parental Control PIN (or similar item).
- π§ Confirm the action through SMS/email.
- πΊ On the TV, update the page of parental control settings - the system will suggest entering a new PIN.
If the TV is not displayed in the list of devices, then it is not tied to the account, in which case only resetting (section 4) or bypassing through ADB (section 5) will help. Also check if you are using guest mode, in which some functions are limited.
What to do if the previous ownerβs Mi Account?
3. Standard default PIN codes for Xiaomi Mi TV 9A
Before resorting to radical methods, try standard combinations. Manufacturers often set the same codes for all devices in the same series. For the Mi TV 9A (models L43M6-6ARU, L50M6-6ARU, etc.) check:
| Type of code | Possible combinations | Note |
|---|---|---|
| PIN by default | 0000, 1234, 1111 | It works on 60% of TVs without changing the code. |
| Date of production | MMGG (e.g. 0520 for May 2020) | Check the date on the box or in Settings β About TV |
| The latest IMEI figures | XXXX (e.g. 3456) | Learn IMEI: Settings β About TV β Status |
| Service code | 6753, 3308 | Engineering combinations for service menus |
If neither combination fits, donβt try to code at random β after 5 failed attempts, the TV can lock for 30 minutes, in which case only a reboot will help (hold the power button on the remote for 10 seconds).

Before buying a used Xiaomi Mi TV 9A, always check if parental controls are reset. ask the seller to turn it off when you are in the room or provide a PIN.
4. Full reset (Hard Reset) - a radical method
If other methods fail, you'll have to reset to factory settings, which will delete all the data, including the apps, accounts and Wi-Fi settings you installed, but it'll be guaranteed to remove parental controls. There are two ways to reset the Mi TV 9A:
Method 1: Through the menu (if you have access to settings)
- Open Settings β Account and Security β Resetting.
- Select Reset all settings (not to be confused with Reset Network Settings!).
- Confirm the action by entering a PIN from parental control OR a password from Mi Account (if the TV is tied).
- Wait for the reboot (it will take 3-5 minutes).
Method 2: Through buttons on the TV (if access is blocked)
If the menu is not available, use the physical buttons:
- Turn the TV off the socket.
- Press the Volume button β (volume down) on the back of the TV.
- Without releasing the button, connect the power.
- Hold the volume. β 10-15 seconds until the recovery menu appears.
- Select Wipe data/factory reset using volume buttons and confirm with the power button.
Write down your Wi-Fi settings (network name and password)
Take a picture of the order of the applications on the main screen
Make sure you have a remote (a pair of connections may be required after resetting)
Prepare data from Mi Account (if the TV was tied)
-->
Once reset, the TV will turn on as new, you will need to reset the initial setup, connect to Wi-Fi and log in to your account (if necessary), and parental controls will be disabled.
β οΈ Note: Some PatchWall firmware may require confirmation after reset via Mi Account, which was tied before reset. If it is someone else's account, the TV will become a "brick" - it can only be unlocked through the Xiaomi service center.
5. Bypassing parental controls through ADB (for advanced)
If you're familiar with USB debugging, you can try disabling restrictions through ADB (Android Debug Bridge), which doesn't require resetting, but you can:
- π₯οΈ Computer with installed ADB Tools.
- π USB-cable (preferably original from Xiaomi).
- βοΈ Included debugging by USB on the TV (if there is no access, the method will not work).
Instructions:
- Connect the TV to your computer via USB.
- Open the command prompt (cmd) in the folder with adb.exe.
- Enter the command to check the connection: adb devices must appear serial number of the device.
- Execute the command to disable parental control: adb shell pm clear com.miui.tv.parentalcontrol
- Reboot the TV: adb reboot
If the team doesnβt work, try an alternative:
adb shell settings put global parental_control_enabled 0On PatchWall 5.0+ (2023), this method may not work due to enhanced protection, in which case only a reset or official appeal in support of Xiaomi will help.
6. Alternative methods: system fraud and service codes
If standard methods don't work, you can try less obvious tricks, which don't guarantee 100% results, but sometimes they work:
- π Time Reset: Set a date on your TV to 1-2 years ago through Settings β System system β Date and time. Sometimes it resets the time constraints of parental control.
- πΊ Switch source: Connect to the TV external device (set-top box, computer) through HDMI. Some restrictions apply only to embedded applications.
- π Service menu: Enter the Menu combination on the remote β 1 β 3 β 7 β 9 (or Menu) β 4 β 6 β 6 β This can open an engineering menu where you can reset security settings.
- π± Control via app: Install the official Mi Home or Mi Remote app on your phone, and you can sometimes change your parental control settings even if your TV is locked.
One of the tricks that is not obvious is to change region: Go to Settings β Language and region and select another country (like India or Thailand), and in some regions, parental control works differently or can be turned off without a PIN.
β οΈ Warning: Use of service codes and engineering menus may result in loss of warranty or unstable TV performance.Do not change settings unless you are sure of their purpose.
