How to disable the password on Xiaomi apps: all ways to unlock

Forgot the password from the Xiaomi app or just want to remove the extra protection? MIUI has several levels of locking, from the standard App Lock to system restrictions through Second Space or Private Mode. The problem is that the manufacturer regularly changes the location of settings - what worked on the Redmi Note 10 may not be suitable for the Xiaomi 14.

1. Standard disabling App Lock through settings

The easiest way is if you remember a password or a pattern lock. In MIUI, application protection is managed through the built-in App Lock feature (some firmware calls Privacy → Application Lock).

Here's the step-by-step instruction:

1. Open the settings (cog icon).
2. Go to Privacy (or Special Opportunities → Privacy on older versions).
3. Select Application Lock (App Lock).
4. Enter the current password/pattern lock.
5. Click on the icon. ⚙️ (settings) in upper right corner.
6. Choose to Disable App Blocking or uncheck unnecessary apps.

2. Reset password through the Mi Account (if you forgot)

If you forgot your App Lock password but linked your device to your Xiaomi account (Mi Account), you can reset protection via Find Device, which works even without root rights, but requires:

• 🔑 Access to email/phone linked to Mi Account.
• 🔄 Find Device enabled in settings (check in advance!).

3. Disable locking via Second Space or Private Mode

On some Xiaomi devices (such as the Redmi Note 11 Pro+ or Xiaomi 12T), applications can be blocked not through the App Lock, but through the functions of Second Space (second desktop) or Private Mode (incognito mode), in which case the standard shutdown will not work.

How to check:

If standard methods don’t work and Find Device doesn’t work, you can try disabling App Lock via Android Debug Bridge (ADB).

• 🖥️ Computer with installed Xiaomi drivers and ADB.
• 🔌 USB-cable (preferably original).
• 🔧 Included mode Debugging by USB phone-on.

⚠️ Attention: Wrong commands ADB If you're not sure, skip this section.

Step-by-step:

1. Turn on USB Debugging: Go to Settings → About Phone. Tap 7 times on MIUI to activate Developer Mode. Go back to Settings → Additional → Developer. Enable USB Debugging.

Connect the phone to the PC and confirm the trusted device.

Reset the device.

5. Reset to factory settings (extreme case)

If no methods have worked, you will be hard-resetting through Recovery Mode, which will remove all data from your device, including passwords, apps and files.

How to reset:

1. Turn off the device.

6. Features for HyperOS (Xiaomi 14, Redmi K70 and later)

In late 2023, Xiaomi began replacing MIUI with a new HyperOS shell. The interface and settings are very different there. If you have a Xiaomi 14, Redmi K70 or another HyperOS model, use this instruction:

How to disable App Lock in HyperOS:

1. Open the settings (the gear icon with a gear wheel).
2. Go to Privacy and Security (instead of the old Privacy section).
3. Select Application Lock (App Lock).
