Blocking numbers on Xiaomi smartphones is a useful feature for protecting against spam and unwanted calls, but sometimes it works too aggressively. Users face situations when the system blocks important numbers, interferes with calls from banks, delivery services or even loved ones. In this article, we will discuss all the official and hidden ways to disable locks on Redmi, POCO and Mi devices running MIUI 12, 13 and 14, including bypassing restrictions for individual contacts and completely disabling protection.
The problem is complicated by the fact that in new versions of firmware, lock settings are hidden deep in the menu, and some options are only available through hidden codes or ADB. We tested all methods on current models (2022-2026) and highlighted those that work without root rights and do not require complex manipulation. If you are faced with the fact that calls do not pass or SMS do not come, here you will find a solution.
Why Xiaomi is blocking numbers: the main reasons
The MIUI system uses several mechanisms to filter calls and messages, most often because of:
- ๐ฑ Built-in spam filter: MIUI automatically blacklists numbers if they are flagged as fraudulent by other users.Bases are updated via Xiaomi cloud.
- ๐ Google Algorithms: Devices with Google Play services have an additional check through Google Dialer (even if you use a standard call app).
- ๐ต Manual lock: You or the previous owner may have accidentally added a number to the blacklist through the contact menu.
- ๐ก๏ธ Functions "Do not disturb": in the settings of the mode DND Rules for blocking unknown numbers may be included.
- ๐ก Telecom operator: some mobile operators (for example, MTS, Beeline) block spam at the network level, and it does not depend on the phone settings.
Problems are especially common after a firmware update: in MIUI 14, filtering algorithms have become tougher, and many users complain about missing important SMS (for example, from banks or government services). Before disabling the lock completely, check if the desired number was blacklisted by accident.
โ ๏ธ Warning: Disabling the spam filter completely increases the risk of receiving a fraudulent call.We recommend first try adding the desired numbers to the whitelist (instruction below).
Method 1: Checking the blacklist in the standard "Phone" application
The easiest way is to check if the number is manually locked.
- Open the Phone app (the tube icon on the home screen).
- Press three points (โฎ) in the upper right corner and select Settings.
- Go to the section "Number Lock" (or "Spam and Block" in new versions of MIUI).
- Check the list of blocked numbers. If you have the right contact, swipe it left or click Delete.
On some models (for example, Redmi Note 12 or POCO X5) The path may be slightly different: phone โ Contacts โ Settings (โ๏ธ) โ Lockdown.
If the blacklist is blank, but the calls still don't go through, the problem may be Xiaomi's cloud filter.
Remove the number from the blacklist manually
Turn off Do Not Disturb (DND) mode

Method 2: Disabling the MIUI cloud spam filter
MIUI 13 and 14 run a cloud-based spam number database that updates automatically to turn it off:
- Open the phone settings.
- Go to the Apps โ Application management.
- Find the Phone app and open its settings.
- Select Permissions โ Additionally. โ Spam filter.
- Turn off the Spam Call Filter and Cloud Database Switch.
On some firmware, the path may look like this: Settings โ PapaSSWORD & security โ Spam filter โ Shut down.
| MIUI version | The path to filter settings | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| MIUI 12 | Settings โ Applications โ Phone โ Spam filter | It may need to be rebooted. |
| MIUI 13 | Settings โ PapaSSWORD & security โ Spam filter | Some models are called Privacy Protection. |
| MIUI 14 (Global) | Settings โ Applications โ Application Management โ Phone โ Permissions โ Spam filter | In Chinese firmware, the way is different! |
| POCO Launcher | Settings โ System and device โ Additional โ Spam filter | It may not be available on older models. |
After turning off the cloud filter, restart your phone. If the problem persists, check the Google Dialer settings (if installed).

Method 3: Set up a whitelist for important numbers
If you don't want to turn off the lock completely, you can add the numbers to the whitelist, which ensures that calls and SMS from them will always go away, even if you turn on DND mode or spam filter.
Instructions for MIUI 14:
- Open Settings โ Applications โ Application Management โ Phone.
- Select Number Blocking (or Spam and Lock).
- Click the White List (or Exclusions).
- Add numbers manually or select from contacts.
For models with Google Dialer (e.g. POCO F5):
- Open the Phone app.
- Press three points (โฎ) โ Settings โ Spam and calls โ Exceptions.
- Add numbers that should never be blocked.
Important: The whitelist in MIUI takes precedence over the blacklist, and even if the number is blocked but added to the exceptions, the calls will pass.
๐ก
If you often receive important SMS messages (e.g. from a bank), add short service numbers (e.g. 900 for Sberbank) to the whitelist, which will prevent them from being blocked by a spam filter.
Method 4: Disable the lock through hidden codes (Engineer Mode)
If standard settings donโt work, you can use the Engineering Mode, which works on most Xiaomi devices, but you need to be careful that the wrong changes can disrupt the phone.
Instructions:
- Open the Phone app.
- Enter the code ##4636## (some models may require ##6484##).
- Select Phone Information (or Phone Information).
- Scroll down to Spam Filter or Call Blocking.
- Turn off all switches associated with the lock.
On Redmi and POCO with MediaTek processor, the code can work:
##36446337##Once you enter, you will be taken to Engineer Mode, where you need to go to Connectivity โ Call Blocking.
โ ๏ธ Warning: Do not change other options in the engineering menu unless you are sure of their purpose. This can lead to network failures or complete loss of communication.
What to do if the engineering menu is not opened?
Method 5: Reset the settings of the Phone application (if nothing helps)
If the lock persists even after all filters are turned off, the settings of the Phone application may have gone wrong, in which case the reset will help:
- Open Settings โ Applications โ Application Management.
- Find your phone and open its page.
- Click Warehouse โ Clear the data and Clear the cache.
- Reboot the phone.
Once reset, all lock settings, call histories, and favorite contacts will be deleted, and you will have to reconfigure the application, but this often solves the problem with the "stuck" lock.
If you use Google Dialer, reset it separately: Settings โ Apps โ Google Dialer โ Storage โ Clear the data.
๐ก
Resetting the Phone app is a last resort, and before that, export your contacts to a backup so you don't lose important data.
Additional methods: ADB and third-party applications
For experienced users, there are two more ways to disable the lock:
1. via ADB (no root rights)
If you have a computer, you can use Android Debug Bridge to disable the spam filter:
- Enable USB Debugging in the Developer Settings (Settings โ About Phone โ MIUI Version โ Press 7 times, then return to Additional โ For Developers).
- Connect your phone to your PC and execute the command: adb shell settings put global spam_filter_enabled 0
- To disable cloud lock synchronization: adb shell settings put global spam_filter_cloud_enabled 0
Third-party annexes
If standard methods donโt work, you can install alternative calling apps, such as:
- ๐ Truecaller (has its own spam filter, but it can be turned off).
- ๐ฑ Simple Dialer (minimalist application without blocking).
- ๐ Call Blocker (allows you to flexibly configure rules).
Check the appโs permissions before installing โ some may request access to SMS and call logs.
