When your beloved Xiaomi stops responding to commands, hangs on the logo or requires you to enter code that you did not install, it can take anyone by surprise. Most often, panic affects device owners at the most inappropriate time when the phone is needed for work or an urgent call. The locking of the smartphone can be caused by a software failure, an error when updating the system, incorrect application operation, or the actions of the user who forgot the pattern lock.

Before you bring your device to the service center, it is worth trying to solve the problem yourself, since in many cases the device remains completely intact. The modern shell of MIUI and HyperOS has several layers of protection, and understanding what level is activated is the key to success. In this article, we will analyze all possible lock scenarios, from a simple screen freeze to serious problems with the Mi Account.

It's important to understand that the solutions are directly dependent on the symptoms: whether the indicator is flashing, whether the vibration response is working or the screen is completely black. Diagnostics is the first step to avoid unnecessary actions that can aggravate the situation, such as the accidental deletion of important data. We will look at safe ways to reboot, log in to special modes and use official software for recovery.

Diagnostics of the type of device lock

The first thing you need to do is clearly define what happened to your gadget, and the lock can be software when the system can't boot, or hardware when it's connected to the components. If the screen is black, but the USB connection sounds when you connect to the computer, the problem is probably the display or the plume, not the software, and if the "Mi" or "Redmi" logo is on the screen and you don't load it, it's Bootloop (cyclicic reboot).

Special attention should be paid to account blocking. If you see a requirement to enter a password from Mi Account that was previously synced with the device after activation, this is standard protection against theft. Find Device is a useful feature, but it becomes an obstacle if you forget the login data. There is also a bootloader lock that prevents you from installing custom firmware or system modifications, as is usually indicated by the message "Locked" when you try to log in to Fastboot mode.

For a good diagnosis, try pinching the button combination to enter Recovery Mode.
