Forgot the password from the Xiaomi router and can not connect to Wi-Fi or log into the control panel? This problem is familiar to many β especially if the device was configured long ago or purchased from hand. Fortunately, the manufacturer has provided several ways to restore access, and the standard combinations for most models (Mi Router 4A, Redmi Router AX5, AX6000 and others) can be selected without complex manipulation.
In this article, we will discuss all the current methods, from simply searching for a sticker on the case to resetting settings through Mi Wi-Fi or the web interface, and you will learn how to bypass the lock if the router previously belonged to another owner, and what default logins / passwords Xiaomi uses for different versions of the firmware. Importantly, some actions can lead to the loss of current network settings, so we will explain in detail how to avoid them.
1.Where to look for the standard password from Xiaomi router
Before you start resetting, check the factory data - it's often listed right on the device. Xiaomi has two key combinations:
- π Wi-Fi password β usually printed on a sticker under the router in the Wi-Fi Password or Key field. Format: 8-12 characters (digits) + lowercase).
- π Login / password for logging into the administration panel - most often this is admin/admin Or an empty password field (AX6000, AX3000) You may need to link to your Mi Account.
If the sticker is worn or missing, try the standard combinations for your model:
| Model router | Standard. IP-address | Login. | Password. |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mi Router 4A (R4A) | 192.168.31.1 | admin | admin or empty |
| Redmi Router AX5 | 192.168.31.1 | admin | Requires a binding to the Mi Account |
| Mi Router AX6000 | 192.168.31.1 | β | Only through the Mi Wi-Fi app |
| Mi Router 3/3C/3G | 192.168.31.1 | admin | admin or 12345678 |
Important: On routers with MiWiFi firmware ROM (for example, AX3600) The standard password may match the last 8 characters MAC-device-address.MAC-address is indicated on a sticker in format XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX β Take the last 8 signs without colons.
β οΈ Note: If the router previously belonged to another owner and is tied to his Mi Account, the standard passwords will not work.
2.How to log into the control panel of the Xiaomi router
If you need to change your network settings (like changing your Wi-Fi password), you first need to access the web interface in two ways:
- Browser: Connect to the router network (via Wi-Fi or cable). Enter 192.168.31.1 or miwifi.com. Enter the username/password (see table above). On new models, the system will offer scanning. QR-code through Mi Wi-Fi.
- Through the Mi Wi-Fi app: Download the app from Google Play or the App Store. Sign up or log in to Mi Account. Click Add Device β Router and follow the instructions.
If you log in with a "Device is linked to another account" error, the previous owner didn't untie the router, the solution is just a hardware reset.
3. How to reset your Wi-Fi password without losing your settings
If you have forgotten only the Wi-Fi password, but have access to the control panel, you can change it without completely resetting:
Enter the control panel (192.168.31.1)
Go to the Wi-Fi settings or Wireless Settings section
Enter a new password (minimum 8 characters)
Save changes and reconnect devices-->
On models with MiWiFi ROM firmware (e.g., AX6000), the path will be different:
- Open Mi Wi-Fi β Select your router.
- Go to Settings. β Wi-Fi.
- Click on Network Name (SSID) β Change password.
- Enter a new password and confirm.
Tip: Use the password from 12+ symbols with a combination of letters (in different registers), numbers and special characters: Xiaomi_AX5!2026. This will protect the network from hacking.
β οΈ Note: If some devices do not connect after changing the password, check if the router has a filter turned on. MAC-Address settings (address settings) β Security β Filter MAC). It needs to be turned off or added. MAC-problem-addresses.
4. Complete reset of Xiaomi router to factory settings
If you don't remember the Wi-Fi password or the login data to the control panel, the only way out is a hardware reset, which will return the router to factory settings, but will delete all user settings (including the Mi Account binding).

- If you can't reach me, do a deep reset: Connect the router to your PC via cable. Hold Reset for 30 seconds (until all the lights blink). Turn off the power for 10 seconds, then turn it on again. Re-enter through 192.168.31.1 - the binding should reset.
The AX6000 and AX3600 may require an additional step, UBoot firmware, which is a risky procedure that requires technical skills. If you are not sure, contact the service.
β οΈ Warning: Once someone else's account is uncoupled, the router may require a firmware update. Don't interrupt the process, as this will lead to the "bricking" of the device.
6. How to come up with a strong password for a Xiaomi router
A weak Wi-Fi password is one of the main reasons for network hacking.
- π Length: minimum 12 characters (optimally 16)+).
