Preparation for installation: what you need to know before starting
The Xiaomi AX3200 router is a powerful Wi-Fi 6-enabled device that can provide stable connectivity of up to 3200 Mbps at 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. However, even the most advanced hardware requires the right installation to unleash its full potential. Before you start connecting, make sure you have everything you need.
Complete with the router, you will find the device itself, the power supply, the Ethernet network cable (usually Cat.5e or higher), and a brief instruction in several languages. If the cable is missing or damaged, do not use old wires from previous routers: for gigabit speeds, a quality cable with minimal interference is important.
Also check if your ISP supports PPPoE technology, DHCP static IP — This information can be specified in the contract or personal account, if you connect through GPON-terminal (for example, from Rostelecom or Beeline), you may need to transfer it to Bridge Mode (otherwise Xiaomi) AX3200 It won't be able to give out the Internet.
Unpacking and external inspection of the router
Take the Xiaomi AX3200 out of the box and take a close look at the body.
- 🔌 Power port (connector for the power supply unit)
- 🌐 WAN-port (blue or yellow, for connecting cable from the provider)

- 🔄 Reset button (recessed in the case, pressed by a paper clip)

Notice the antennas: the AX3200 has four antennas, and they're not removable. Don't try to unscrew or bend them, it can damage the internal contacts. The optimal position of the antennas is two vertically up, two at a 45° angle (as shown in the picture in the manual), which will provide better coverage in the apartment.
⚠️ Warning: If there are dents, scratches or cracks on the router case, do not connect it to the network. This may indicate damage to internal components, especially if the device was bought with hands.
Connecting the router to the network and power
Now, let's move on to physical connectivity. Follow this sequence.
- Connect the power supply to the router and plug it into the socket. Wait for the blue light to light up (this means that the device is ready to go).
- Take a network cable from the provider (if it was connected to an old router) and paste it into the network. WAN-port (usually marked with color).
- If you GPON-terminal, connect Xiaomi AX3200 through LAN-Terminal port (pre-configured by Bridge Mode).
After connecting the cables, the Internet indicator on the router should flash, and after 30-60 seconds it should catch fire constantly.
- 🔄 Check if the cable is tightly inserted into the WAN-port.
- 🔌 Reboot the router (turn off power for 10 seconds and turn on again).
- 📞 Check with the provider whether it blocks the connection of new devices MAC-address.

Configure via the Mi Wi-Fi mobile application
The most convenient way to set up the Xiaomi AX3200 is to use the official Mi Wi-Fi app (available for Android and iOS). Download it from Google Play or the App Store and follow the instructions:
- Open the application and click Add Device → Router.
- Select the AX3200 from the list (if not, click Other Device).
- Connect to the temporary network Xiaomi_XXXX (password is indicated on the router sticker).
- Follow the tips: Specify the connection type (PPPoE/DHCP/static IP), come up with a network name (SSID) and a password.
If the application does not find the router:
- 📱 Make sure your phone has Wi-Fi and Bluetooth enabled.
- 🔄 Restart the router and try again.
- 🚫 Turn it off. VPN on the phone - it can block the connection.
⚠️ Note: When configured via Mi Wi-Fi, the router automatically updates the firmware. If you have slow internet (less than 10 Mbps), wait for the update to complete before continuing.

If you don’t have a smartphone, you can set up via a web interface. To do this, connect your computer to the router via cable, open your browser and type in 192.168.31.1 or miwifi.com. The default login and password is admin and the password from the sticker on the router.
Network configuration: optimal settings for speed
After the basic setup, it is recommended to optimize the settings for maximum performance. Go to the router web interface (192.168.31.1) and check the following points:

If you have many Wi-Fi connected devices, turn on Band Steering (in Settings Wi-Fi → Additional) and it automatically distributes the devices between 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz to reduce the load.
It is useful for gamers and streamers to activate QoS (Quality of Service) and manually prioritize traffic for specific devices (for example, for a PC or PlayStation), which will prevent lags when playing online games or streaming.
How to check the real speed of Wi-Fi?
Common Problems and Their Solutions
Even after you've set it up properly, you can have difficulties, and here are the most common ones and the ways to fix them:
- 🔴 No Internet access: Check if the Internet indicator on the router is on. Reboot the router and GPON-terminal (if any) Make sure that the settings indicate the correct type of connection (PPPoE/DHCP).
- 📶 Weak Wi-Fi signal: Change antenna position (optimally at 45 angle)°). Reduce the 5GHz channel width to 40MHz if there is interference. Move the router to the center of the apartment, away from microwaves and cordless phones.
- 🔄 Router constantly reboots: Check the power supply - it should give out 12V/1A (The parameters are on it. IPv6 and Mu-MIMO in settings (they may conflict with some providers).
⚠️ Note: If the router stopped turning on after updating the firmware (only the red indicator burns), this may indicate damage to the bootloader. TFTP-The server is a complex procedure and is recommended only for experienced users.
Additional functions: what can be configured
The Xiaomi AX3200 supports a number of useful options that often go unnoticed.
- 🔒 Guest network: Create a separate network for guests with limited access to local devices (wi-fi section) → Guest network, this will protect your personal data.
- 🕒 Parental controls: Limit Internet access time for certain devices (e.g. children's tablets). → Parental control.
- 🌍 VPN-Server: Activate built-in OpenVPN or PPTP, Connect to your home network from anywhere in the world.
- 📊 Traffic statistics: See which devices consume the most data (Statistics section) Useful for limit rates.
For advanced users available SSH-Access (to be included in Additional) → It allows custom firmware like OpenWRT to be installed, but it's a discovery. SSH cancels the warranty and may result in unstable work.
