Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro is one of the most popular devices of the brand, but even it is not immune to breakdowns. The screen cracked after falling? The battery swells and pushes the back cover? The speaker stopped working and the microphone does not catch the sound? In most cases, repairs are cheaper than buying a new device, especially if you disassemble the phone yourself. However, the dismantling of the Redmi Note 8 Pro has its own features: there are adhesive back panel, fragile plumes, and the risk of damage to the board if you carelessly handle.
In this article, you'll find a step-by-step photo guide, a list of tools you need, and unique nuances of disassembling this particular model β for example, how to safely disconnect the battery without the risk of short circuiting or why you can't pull the fingerprint scanner plume. We'll also tell you what mistakes beginners often make and how to avoid them. If you've never taken a smartphone before, it's no problem: follow the manual carefully, and you'll succeed.
β οΈ Important: Disassembling your smartphone will void the warranty (if it's still valid). Make sure you have spare parts (like a new battery or display module) before starting work and you're ready for the challenges. If in doubt, you'd better go to the service center.
How long will it take to disassemble? First time, about 40 to 60 minutes, experienced craftsmen can do it in 15 to 20 minutes, and the main thing is to take your time and follow the instructions.
Preparation for disassembly: tools and security measures
Before you start, you can pack everything you need, and without the right tools, you're at risk of damaging the body, the plumes, even the motherboard.
- π§ Plastic blades (mediators) are 2-3 pieces of different thicknesses (0.2-0.5 mm). Metal ones will not work: they scratch the body and can close contacts.
- π¨ The PH00 screwdriver is for the back cover screws. The normal PH0 or PH1 screwdriver is too big and will rip the slimes off.
- π Screen suction cup -- it'll help to squeak the back panel. Alternatively, a wide tape tape loop.
- π₯ Dryer or thermo-air station - for softening the glue (temperature 60-80Β°C, no higher!).
- 𧲠Magnetic mat or screw container β to avoid losing small details.
- πΈ Smartphone for photography β lock every step, it will help with the reverse build.
Also prepare your workspace: a clean desk with good lighting, no carpets (screws are easily lost in the pile) and away from the water. Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro has IP53- certification, but this will not save the internal components from spilled liquid.
β οΈ Warning: Don't disassemble your phone on a carpet or couch - static electricity can damage the motherboard. Use an antistatic bracelet or regularly touch a grounded metal object (such as a heating battery).
If you disassemble the phone because of a bloated battery, be especially careful: puncturing or heavy pressure on the battery can lead to fire, in which case it is better to take the device to the service immediately.
Step 1: Removing the back cover
The Redmi Note 8 Pro's back panel is glued around the perimeter, so you can't just shovel it with a blade, you either break the latches or you damage the body.
- Turn off the phone and remove the tray for SIM-cards (use a paper clip or special key).
- Heat the edges of the back cover with a hair dryer for 2-3 minutes, keeping it at a distance of 5-7 cm.
- With a suction or tape, lift the lid at the USB-Type C connector (the bottom of the phone).
- Put a plastic blade in the gap and carefully guide it along the body, separating the glue. Don't push too hard, the lid is attached to the latches!
If the lid doesn't lend itself, warm up the problem area again. Don't use a knife or metal tools, they will scratch the body and can close the contacts of the antennas that are located under the lid.
1 Phone off and SIM- Cards removed
2. The edges of the body are warmed by a hairdryer (60-80 Β°C)
3.A plastic spatula and suction cup are on hand
4. Work is being done on a clean, flat surface-->
After removing the cover, you will see:
- π Battery with connected connector.
- π± Motherboard closed with metal screen.
- π€ Upper speaker and microphone.
- πΈ The main camera module (4 lenses).
β οΈ Warning: Don't touch the motherboard with your bare hands -- static electricity can knock it out. If you need to touch the board, touch the grounded metal object first.
Step 2: Shutting off the battery
The first thing you need to do after you remove the lid is to disconnect the battery, which prevents short circuits from further disassembly, and the battery in the Redmi Note 8 Pro is attached to the glue and plugged into the board with a flexible plug.
How to turn off the battery:
- Carefully apply the black battery connector with a plastic spatula, located near the lower edge of the board (see photo below).
- Pull by the connector, not by the wires! If the contacts are oxidized, you can drip some alcohol on the cotton swab and clean them gently.
If the connector doesn't detach, don't force it -- you can pull the contacts off the board. Try wiggling it slightly left-right.
What to do if the battery connector is damaged?
After turning off the battery, check its condition:
- π If the battery is swelling, don't try to squeeze it or puncture it. It's dangerous!
- π₯ If the battery shows traces of oxidation (green or white) - clean the contacts with alcohol.
| Battery status | Action |
|---|---|
| Bloating (phone cover lifted) | Emergency replacement, risk of fire. |
| Oxidation of contacts | Clean with alcohol, check the work. |
| Normal (no bloating, capacity < 80%) | It can be used, but it will need replacement soon. |
| Severe damage (body breached) | Dispose of it according to the rules. |
Step 3: Dismantling the motherboard
The Redmi Note 8 Pro motherboard is mounted on 12 screws of different lengths. It's important to remember which screw is from where! If you confuse them when you build, you risk damaging the board or the case.
- πΈ Photograph the location of the screws before unscrewing.
- 𧲠Place them on a magnetic mat in order of extraction.
Procedure:
- Unscrew all the screws (use a PH00 screwdriver). Two screws are hidden under stickers near the camera - gently tuck them in.
- Disconnect all the plumes: π± Display plume (top board). π Lower speaker plume. πΈ Camera plumes (3 pieces). π Fingerprint scanner plume (very fragile!).
Carefully raise the charge, starting at the top edge.
β οΈ Warning: The fingerprint scanner plume is very thin and easily torn. Don't bend it or pull the wires. If it breaks, the scanner will stop working, and the cost of replacing it will be the 1/3 cost of the phone.
After you have removed the fee, examine it for:
- π₯ Darkening or swelling of capacitors (a sign of overheating).
- π§ Traces of corrosion (if the phone has come into contact with moisture)
- π Damaged tracks (often after falls)
π‘
If you're cleaning a board of dust, use a soft brush and a non-conducting brush. Don't blow your mouth, under any circumstances, saliva contains acids that erode your contacts over time.
Step 4: Disassembly of the display module
The Redmi Note 8 Pro screen is made up of several layers: touch glass, display array, and metal frame. If you change only glass, you can do without completely disassembling, but if you replace the matrix or plume, you have to disassemble the module completely.
How to take the screen off:
- Warm up the display edge with a hair dryer (70Β°C). The glue under the glass will become softer.
- Tap the glass with a plastic blade, starting at the bottom edge (where the USB-Type C connector is).
- Carefully separate the glass from the matrix. If it's cracked, tape it with tape so the fragments don't fall apart.
- Disconnect the matrix and sensor plumes (they are attached to the latches).
Please note:
- π§ The array mount screws are of different lengths β donβt confuse them when you build them.
- π‘ There's a backlight plume underneath the matrix -- don't pull it, or you'll tear it.
π‘
If you're only replacing the glass and the matrix is intact, use UV- glue to stick the new glass. Normal superglue won't work, it turns yellow and peels off over time.
Step 5: Replace speakers, microphones and cameras
The Redmi Note 8 Pro has two speakers (top and bottom), three microphones and four cameras. Replacing them doesnβt require complete disassembly, but you need to be careful with the plumes.
Speakers and microphones:
- π The bottom speaker is mounted on two screws and glue. To remove, warm up with a hair dryer and shovel.
- π€ Microphones (top, bottom and extra for noise reduction) are soldered to the board. You need a soldering iron to replace.
Cameras:
The main camera module is attached to screws and glue.
- Unscrew 4 screws around the camera.
- Carefully lift the module - it is connected to the board with three plumes (main camera, wide-angle, macro and depth sensor).
- Disconnect the plumes by pulling the black tongues of the connectors (not by the wires!).
β οΈ Warning: When changing the camera, don't touch the lenses -- greasy finger marks will make the photo worse. If the lenses are dirty, clean them with only microfibre wipe and alcohol.
Build the phone: reverse order and check
To collect Redmi Note 8 Pro need in reverse order, but taking into account a few nuances:
- π§ The screws shall be twisted at a force of 0.3β0.4 Nm (do not tug!).
- π The battery is last when all the plumes are in place.
- π± Check the display module for performance before final assembly.
Post-assembly check:
- Turn on the phone and check: π΅ Network (SIM- Cards are defined?). π Sound in speakers and microphones. πΈ All cameras (main, wide-angle, macro). π Fingerprint scanner.
If something doesnβt work, take the phone apart and check the plumes.
If the screen does not turn on after assembly, but the phone vibrates when you press the buttons:
- π Check battery connection.
- π± Make sure the display plume is not bent.
- π Try to plug in the charger - the battery may have run out.
π‘
After assembly, let the phone run for 10-15 minutes in normal mode, if it heats up more than usual or discharges quickly - most likely somewhere poor contact (most often in the battery plume or display).
Frequent Mistakes and How to Avoid Them
Even experienced craftsmen sometimes make mistakes when disassembling the Redmi Note 8 Pro.
| Mistake. | Effects of consequences | How to avoid |
|---|---|---|
| Use of metal tools | Scratches on the body, short circuit | Use only plastic blades |
| Overheating by a hairdryer (>80Β°C) | Melting plastic, damage to glue | Keep the hair dryer at a distance of 5-7 cm |
| Strong pressure on the bloated battery | Risk of fire | Not to be disassembled by yourself β take to the service |
| Tangled screws | Damage to board or hull | Photograph the location of the screws |
| Dramatic disconnection of plumes | Contact break | Fill the connectors with a plastic spatula |
If you're disassembling your phone for the first time, feel free to ask for help. It's better to spend money on repairing the service than to finally break the device. For example, replacing the fingerprint scanner plume costs 3-5 thousand rubles, and the fee with the sensor is 10-12 thousand.
