Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus (also known as Redmi Note 5 in the global version) remains a popular device due to its reliability and maintainability. However, disassembly of this device has its own nuances, from the fragile battery plume to the adhesive mounting of the rear cover. In this article, you will find a step-by-step photo instruction, a list of necessary tools, and critical warnings to help avoid damage to the board or display.
The model was released in 2018, but is still in use today, which means that repair issues are relevant, and we will consider both basic disassembly (battery replacement, speaker) and complex cases (decoupling the camera plume or charging connector), and pay special attention to the typical errors of beginners, because of which the device may stop turning on after assembly.
If youβve never taken Xiaomi smartphones apart, donβt worry: the Redmi 5 Plus is a βfriendlyβ self-repair model, and the key is to follow the instructions and take your time. And for those who are doubtful about their abilities, at the end of the article there is a list of service centers specializing in Xiaomi.
Preparation for disassembly: tools and security measures
Before you start, make sure you have everything you need. The Redmi 5 Plus doesn't require professional equipment, but the wrong tool can damage the body or internal components.
- π§ Plastic mediators (2-3 - to separate the back cover. Metal tools scratch the plastic!
- π¨ The screwdriver. PH00 β The usual screwdriver won't work: the screw heads in the Redmi 5 Plus are small.
- 𧲠Magnetic mat or tray - so as not to lose the screws (there are 12 pieces, and all of different sizes!).
- π₯ Dryer or thermo-air station - for softening the glue under the battery (temperature not higher than 60)Β°C!).
- π Isolating tape - for temporary fixation of plumes after disconnection.
Also, prepare your workspace, which should be well lit, free of dust and static electricity, ideal for a table with an antistatic mat, and if you don't have one, at least touch an earthed object (such as a heating battery) before work to remove static charge from your hands.
β οΈ Warning: Don't use a knife or metal blades to separate the lid! in Redmi 5 Plus, the fingerprint scanner plume runs under the adhesive layer - it's easy to damage.
If you are planning to replace the battery, order the original battery with capacity in advance. 4000 mAh (article) MB-J22). Counterfeiting often has a smaller capacity and can swell through 2-3 month.
Step 1: Removing the back cover
The most important step is to separate the back panel, and in Redmi 5 Plus, it's glued around the perimeter, and in the top, it's additionally fixed with latches. Start by heating the adhesive with a hairdryer.
- Turn on the dryer to minimum power and warm up the edges of the cover for 1-2 minutes. Keep the hair dryer at a distance of 5-7 cm so as not to melt the plastic.
- Insert a plastic mediator into the gap between the lid and the case at the USB-Type C connector. Carefully drive the tool along the edge, separating the glue.
- Once the lid starts to fall, don't pull it out, because there's a fingerprint scanner plume underneath, separate the glue completely around the perimeter, then lift the lid from the on button side.
If the lid doesn't lend itself, don't put too much effort into it. You better warm up the problem area with a hair dryer. In Redmi 5 Plus, you often see a situation where the glue in the corner of the camera is stronger, which is normal.
π‘
If you don't have a hair dryer, you can use hot water: pour it into a plastic bag, wrap it in a smartphone for 3-5 minutes, then try to separate the lid. It works, but it increases the risk of moisture getting inside!
After removing the cover, you will see:
- Battery with plug-in.
- Fingerprint scanner plume (sticked with tape to the cover).
- A metal plate covering the motherboard.
β οΈ Warning: Don't touch the motherboard with your bare hands - static discharge can damage the chips. If you don't use an antistatic bracelet, periodically touch the grounded object.
Step 2: Turn off the battery and plumes
Before any manipulation of the board, be sure to disconnect the battery. In the Redmi 5 Plus, the battery connector is located at the bottom of the board and closed with a black insulation tape. Carefully tweez it and disconnect the plume with a plastic mediator.
Then turn off the other plumes in this order:
- Fingerprint scanner plume (it goes from cover to board).
- The main camera plume (located at the top of the board, under a metal frame).
- The plume of the display module (the widest, in the center of the board).
- The loop of the on/volume button (thin, to the right of the battery).
For convenience, take a picture of the plumes before you turn them off, which will help with the reverse assembly. In Redmi 5 Plus, plume connectors often have different widths and number of contacts, so it is difficult to confuse them, but it is possible.
Battery disconnected |Photographed location of plumes |Tools have no burrs |Workplace cleared of foreign objects-->
| schleife | Location. | Features |
|---|---|---|
| Battery | The bottom of the fee | Closed with black tape, disconnected last. |
| Display. | Centre de la carte | The widest, fixed by a latch |
| Camera. | Top of the pay | Thin, easily torn with careless extraction |
| Fingerprint scanner | Under the lid | Sticked to the lid with scotch |
Step 3: Removing the motherboard
Once you've turned off all the plumes, you can start removing the metal plate that protects the board, and it's mounted on 12 different size screws -- remember or take a picture of their location, because it's important to screw each screw into its place when you build it. The screws near the USB-Type C connector are shorter than the others!
After removing the screws, gently attach the plate with a plastic mediator. It can stick to the thermal paste on the processor - do not use force, it is better to warm up this zone with a hairdryer 40-50 Β° C. Under the plate you will see:
- π± Motherboard with Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor.
- π Speaker and microphone (located at the bottom of the microphone).
- π‘ Antenna modules (glued to a plastic frame).
To retrieve the board, gently tuck it on the side of the USB-Type C connector and pull it up. Be careful: in the Redmi 5 Plus, small plumes (such as a vibrating motor) are often connected. If the board does not lend itself, check all the connectors again!
What to do if the screw breaks when unscrewed?
Step 4: Replace the battery
The Redmi 5 Plus has a battery glued to the body with double-sided high-strength tape.Attempts to pull it out by force will tear the battery wrap, which can lead to a short circuit!
- Warm up the battery with a hair dryer on the back side (through the lid) for 3-5 minutes. The temperature should not exceed 60 Β° C - overheating is dangerous!
- Put a plastic blade on the battery at the connector, and slowly drive the tool under the battery, separating the glue, and if the battery starts to bubble, stop heating!
- After extraction, clean the body of glue residues with isopropyl alcohol (at least 90% concentration).
When installing a new battery:
- π Use the original battery MB-J22 or a certified equivalent (e.g. from ZMI).
- π Make sure that the new battery is the same size: 152.5 Γ 73.5 Γ 3.5 mm.
- 𧲠Secure it with a new double-sided tape (for example, 3M 9448A).
β οΈ Warning: If the new battery discharges quickly after installation, check Settings β Battery β Battery status: "Good" should be at least 85 percent. If it's less, the battery is defective.
Step 5: Disassembly of the display module
The display in Redmi 5 Plus is connected to the touchscreen and the front panel in a single module.
- Disable the display plume (as described in Step 2).
- Warm up the glue around the perimeter of the screen with a hairdryer (temperature 50-60 Β° C).
- Use a suction cup to lift the display. In Redmi 5 Plus, the screen is held on the glue and latches at the top -- pull carefully!
If you only replace glass (without touchscreen), consider:
- π§ In 90% of cases, after glass replacement, resticking of the touchscreen is required - it loses sensitivity.
- π° The cost of a new display module for Redmi 5 Plus β from 2500 to 4000 rubles (2026).
- β‘ After the screen is replaced, the touchscreen may need to be calibrated via the engineering menu (code ##6484##).
When installing a new display:
- Apply a new adhesive layer (B-7000 or LOCA is recommended for full sealing).
- Line the module over the holes for the speaker and sensors.
- Press the screen evenly (e.g., place a book on it) for 10-15 minutes.
π‘
When replacing the display in Redmi 5 Plus, be sure to check the proximity and illumination sensor β they are built into the top of the module and often damaged when disassembled sloppy.
Common Mistakes and How to Avoid Them
Even experienced craftsmen sometimes make mistakes when disassembling the Redmi 5 Plus.
- π Damage to the battery plume occurs when you try to disconnect it with a metal tool. Always use a plastic mediator!
- π The speaker's wire break - it goes along the lower edge of the board and often clings when extracted.
- π± Tangled screws β Redmi 5 Plus has 3 types of screws (length 2.5 mm, 3 mm and 4 mm).If you screw a long screw into a short hole, you can damage the board.
- π₯ Overheating of the battery - at a temperature above 70Β°C it may swell or ignite.
If after assembly the smartphone does not turn on:
- Check if the battery is connected (a common mistake is forgetting to connect the connector after replacing the battery).
- Make sure all plumes sit tightly in the connectors. In Redmi 5 Plus, the contacts sometimes "step away" when vibrating.
- Connect the charger β if the charging indicator lights up, the problem is in the power button or its plume.
If the screen does not respond to touch:
- Check the connection of the touchscreen plume (it is separate from the display in this model!).
- Update your firmware through Fastboot β sometimes touchscreen crashes are associated with software.
