Have you bought Xiaomi handheld or after repair and doubt the originality of the screen? Or have you noticed that the colors on the display have become unnatural and the sensor reacts with a delay? Fake screens are a common problem in the secondary market, and even in service centers sometimes install unoriginal parts. In this article, we will discuss 7 reliable ways to check the original display Xiaomi β from hidden menus and service codes to visual tests and hardware diagnostics.
It's important to understand that a non-original display doesn't always mean "bad." Some copies (like those from Tianma or BOE) can last for years, but their color quality, brightness and durability are often inferior to factory screens, and we'll show you how to distinguish the original from a fake without disassembling the phone -- with built-in tools and free apps.
1. Check through the service menu (#4636##)
The fastest way to get technical information about the display is to use a hidden engineering menu, which is available on all Xiaomi smartphones (except for some models for the Chinese market with blocked codes).
Instructions:
- π± Open the phone app and enter the combination: ##4636##.
- π In the menu that opens, select the Phone Information tab (or Hardware info).
- π₯οΈ Scroll down to the Display section β this shows the screen model, manufacturer and resolution.
Xiaomi's original displays are usually labeled with Samsung (SDC), LG (LGD), Sharp (SHP) or BOE (BOE). If you see unknown abbreviations (e.g. TM, CX, YK) it's a sign of a non-original spare part. Exception: Redmi Note 10/11 and POCO X3 models often come with Tianma (TM) screens that are original to these series.
Verification of the display serial number
Each Xiaomi display has a unique serial number that can be checked against the systemβs data, a method that works on most models released after 2019.
How to check:
- Install the Device Info HW app (free, no ads).
- Open the Display tab and the Serial Number (serial screen number) will be displayed here.
- Compare it to the number on the box or in the documents (if the phone is new).
| Xiaomi model | Original Display Manufacturer | Example of serial number |
|---|---|---|
| Redmi Note 10 Pro | Samsung (SDC) | AMS643XE01-XXXXX |
| POCO F3 | BOE | NT36672A-TSXXXX |
| Mi 11 Ultra | Samsung E4 | AMS643YF08-XXXXX |
| Redmi 9A | Tianma (TM) | HX83113F-XXXXX |
β οΈ Note: If the serial number is missing or consists of a random set of characters (for example, 0000000 or Unknown) - this is 100% sign of a non-original screen.
3. Visual tests: colors, illumination, oleophobic coating
Non-original screens often produce uneven lighting, distorted colors, or lack of oleophobic coating.
- π¨ Color test: Open a pure white image (like Google Photos) at full brightness. the original screen will be uniformly white, without yellowness or bluish hue. Counterfeits often have a greenish or pink undertone at the edges.
- βοΈ Lighting test: In a dark room, illuminate with a flashlight at an angle 45Β° The original displays. AMOLED (For example, in Mi. 11/12) If the screen is "lighting up," it's IPS-copy.
- π Oleophobic test: Swipe your finger across the screen off. The original one is barely visible and quickly erases. The fake one has fatty divorces, like uncoated glass.
Lack of yellow on white background |Smooth backlight without spots |Oleophobic coating repels traces |Black deep (on AMOLED) without gray-->
Pay special attention to the corners of the screen β this is where defects in non-original matrices are most often manifested. For example, copies for the Redmi Note 9 Pro in the upper left corner can have a barely noticeable pink spot when viewed from an angle.
4. Check through the Screen Test app
The free Screen Test app will help you identify hidden display defects that are not visible to the naked eye.
- π΄ Broken pixels (red, green, blue).
- π’ Gradient and smoothness of color reproduction.
- π Sensor sensitivity (multi-touch).
- π Brightness and contrast according to sRGB standards.
How to use:
- Download and open the app.
- Select the Color β Gradient test. The original screen will show a smooth transition of colors without stripes. Counterfeiting often has sharp transitions or "steps."
- Do the Touch β Multitouch test. On the original screen, all 10 fingers are determined without jumping dots.
π‘
If you see more than 3 bit pixels in the Dead Pixels test, then you have to question the originality of the screen. Assume 1-2 pixels that are not working on Samsung and LG matrixes.
Hardware inspection: disassembly and marking
If you're ready to take the phone apart (or take it to the service), take a look at the back of the display. Xiaomi's original arrays have:
- π·οΈ Sticker with QR-code and serial number (usually in the upper left corner).
- π§ Manufacturer's marking (e.g, SDC AMOLED for Samsung or BOE FHD+).
- π‘οΈ Factory seal (on some models, for example, Mi) 10T Pro).

β οΈ Warning: If there are no labels or stickers on the back of the screen, and only the bare board is a guaranteed fake.
6. Check through MIUI Diagnostics (hidden mode)
MIUI has a hidden diagnostic mode that shows detailed information about hardware components, including the display, which works on most but the newest models (2023-2026).
How to activate:
- Go to Settings. β The phone.
- 5 times click on the MIUI version until you become a developer!
- Back to Settings β Additionally. β For developers.
- Activate MIUI Diagnostics (also known as MIUI Optimization).
- Enter the dialer: ##284##.
In the menu that opens, select Display Test.
- π± Display model (e.g, AMOLED FHD+ HDR10+).
- π Frequency of update (must be the same as the one stated: 60/90/120/144 Hz).
- π¨ Color profile (originals support) DCIP3 or sRGB).
π‘
If the diagnosis indicates Unknown display or refresh rate below the stated (for example, 60 Hz instead of 120 Hz), the screen is precisely unoriginal.
7.IMEI check and repair history
If you buy Xiaomi with your hands, be sure to check the history of the device by IMEI. This will help you to know whether the screen has officially changed or not.
Instructions:
- Find out the phone IMEI: enter in the dial number *#06#.
- Check it out on IMEI.info or the official Xiaomi service.
- If there's a record of a display replacement, ask the seller for checks from an authorized service center, which only guarantee the original parts.
Please note the replacement date:
- π§ If the screen has changed during the warranty period (usually 12-24 months) β most likely the original.
- β οΈ If the replacement was after the warranty or in an unofficial service - a high probability of a copy.
