Why it is important to know the year of the release of the Xiaomi smartphone
Even a new-looking Xiaomi smartphone can be in stock for years, with the year of release having a direct impact on the relevance of iron, battery life and support for upgrades, such as the Redmi Note 10, released in 2021, will no longer have fresh MIUI firmware by 2026, and its battery will lose up to 20% of capacity.
Marketplace vendors often hide the real age of the device by giving the modelβs year of announcement instead of the date of production of the particular instance. This misleads customers: Xiaomi 12T, announced in 2022, could be assembled in 2023 β the difference in the condition of the components will be significant. In this article, we will examine all legal methods of verification, including hidden system data that can not be forged.
Method 1: Decoding of the serial number (SN)
The serial number (SN) is the main identifier of the device, which contains encrypted information about the date of production. Xiaomi SN format depends on the year of release:
- π 2015β2018 year: format ABC12345678, where 4-me 5-I'm numbers, week, 6-I'm a year, for example, 518 = 51-I'm a week. 2018 year-end).
- π’ 2019β2022 year: format 123ABCD4567, where ABCD β week and year code (example: K208 = 20-I'm a week. 2021 year-end).
- π 2023β2026 year: format Z12ABCD3456, where AB β year, 23 = 2023), CD β week-long.
To find SN, go to Settings β About Phone β General Information β Serial Number. Or type ##4636## in the phone keyboard and select Device Information.
π‘
If the serial number starts with MP or ZP, the device is assembled in a factory in India, and these models often have a different date format in the SN β check the transcript below.
| SN prefix | Year of release | Example of SN | Transcription |
|---|---|---|---|
| No prefix. | 2015β2017 | 3C65G1234567 | Week 5 of 2016 |
| MP/ZP | 2018β2020 | MP9H7K123456 | Week 7 of 2019 (India) |
| Z12 | 2021β2022 | Z12K208A1234 | 20th Week 2021 |
| Z13 | 2023 | Z132315X7890 | Week 15, 2023 |
β οΈ Warning: On fake devices, the serial number can be generated by accident.Verify its authenticity on the official Mi Verify website.
Method 2: Checking the box and stickers
Xiaomi's original packaging contains a few date tags, but not all of them indicate the year of production of a particular phone.
- Barcoded sticker: The MFG Date or Date of Manufacture bar indicates the date in YYYY-MM-DD format.
- Certification sticker (usually at the bottom of the box): Look for S/N or IMEI codes with a nearby date.
- Print on screen film: on some models (for example, Poco F3), a date in WWYY format (week/year) is marked under the protective film.
Note that the date on the box may indicate packing time, not the phone assembly time, and the difference is usually 1-2 months, but check it against the serial number for accuracy.

Method 3: System information through engineering menu
Xiaomi's hidden menus contain firmware and component calibration data that indirectly indicate the age of the device.
- Open the Phone app and type ##4636##.
- Select Device Information.
- Scroll to the Opening Time block β the date of the first activation may be displayed here.
For models on Qualcomm (most Redmi and Poco):
adb shell getprop ro.boot.ddr_size
adb shell getprop ro.boot.dateThe second command will return the date in WWYY format (e.g. 1522 = Week 15 of 2022).
Enter the code ##4636##
Find the item "Device Information"
Compare the date to the serial number
Check the compliance of the model and firmware-->
β οΈ Note: On custom firmware phones (like LineageOS), system dates can be reset (SN, box).
Method 4: Online Services for IMEI Verification
The international IMEI is linked to the date of manufacture of the device, to know the year:
- Find IMEI in Settings β About Phone β General information or enter *#06#.
- Go to one of the services: π IMEI.info (Paid Extended Verification) π ImeiPro (free for basic information) π± Numerei (supported by Xiaomi)
Manufacture Date
Important: Services show the date of registration of IMEI in the database, which may differ from the actual build by 1-3 months.
| Service | Accuracy of date | Cost | Xiaomi support |
|---|---|---|---|
| IMEI.info | Β±2 weeks | Free/Paid Report | Yes. |
| ImeiPro | Β±1 month | Free of charge. | Partially. |
| Numerei | Β±3 weeks | Free of charge. | Yes. |
Method 5: Analysis of battery status
Xiaomi battery loses capacity even when it is turned off: 2 years of storage without use degradation reaches 10-15%.
- Install the AccuBattery (Play Market) app.
- Charge your phone to 100% and wait for the calibration (1-2 cycles).
- Check the field Wear assessment: π 0-5%: The phone was released less than 6 months ago. π 5β15%: Age 6β18 months. π 15β30%: 1.5β3 years. π 30%+: device more than 3 years.
Also, look at the battery production date in the settings: Settings β Battery β Battery Status β Manufacturing Date (not available on all models). For example, on Xiaomi 11T Pro, this information is displayed in YYYY-MM format.
π‘
If the battery wear exceeds 20% at the age of the phone "1 year", it is either actively operated or stored in imperfect conditions (temperature above 30 Β° C).
What to do if the dates do not match
The difference between the serial number, the box and the system data up to 2 months is normal, but if the discrepancies are greater, there are three possible scenarios:
- Repackaging: the phone was opened to repair or replace components: π οΈ The presence of traces of opening on the body (scratches on screws, uneven gaps). π§ Correspondence of screws (on Xiaomi use screws with a cross-shaped slime) PH00).
Fake.

Manufacturer's error
If you bought a phone with discrepancies in dates, contact the Xiaomi service center with a check - they will specify the real year of release by the serial number. In Russia, official centers are in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg and Novosibirsk.
