Notes on Xiaomi are not just text files, but part of the MIUI ecosystem, closely integrated with the Mi Cloud cloud storage and system services. Many users face the problem of deleting an in-app entry, and it still appears in search or after recovery from a backup. In this article, we will discuss all possible ways to delete, from basic to hidden, including cleaning the cache, resetting sync and working with system folders.
The feature of Xiaomi notes is that they can be duplicated in several places: locally in the deviceโs memory, in the cloud, and in backups created through Settings โ Additional โ Backup. If you just click โDeleteโ in the Notes app, the record can remain in one of these storages, we will show you how to guarantee to erase notes without the possibility of recovery, even if you sell or rent your phone for repair.
1. Delete notes through the standard app โNotesโ
The most obvious way is to use the built-in Notes app (yellow notebook icon), but there are nuances: deleted records can stay in the Recycle Bin for up to 30 days, and when synchronized with the Mi Cloud, they can be duplicated on other devices. Here's how to do it correctly:
- ๐ฑ Open the Notes app on the home screen or in the app menu.
- ๐๏ธ Find the note you want to delete and make a long press on it.
- ๐ In the top menu will appear the button โDeleteโ (basket icon) โ click it.
- ๐งน To completely remove, go to the "Basket" tab (in the side menu) and clean it.
If the note is synced to Mi Cloud, the copy will remain in the cloud, and then you can delete it there, after you delete it locally:
- Open the side menu in the app (swipe from right to left or click on three horizontal lines).
- Select โMi Cloudโ โ find the note โ delete it again.
๐ก
If the note is not deleted the first time, check your internet connection โ without it, synchronization with the cloud can block deletion.
2. Cleaning the cache and data of the Notes application
Even after you delete notes through the app interface, they can still be in the cache and internal storage, which is especially true if you plan to sell the phone or transfer it to another user, to erase all the data:
- โ๏ธ Go to Settings. โ Annexes โ Application management.
- ๐ In search, type โNotesโ (or Notes on English firmware).
- ๐๏ธ Press "Storageยป โ ยซClear the data" and "Clear the cacheยป.
- ๐ Restart the device to make the changes effective.
This method will delete all local notes without recovery, but will not affect the data in Mi Cloud. If you used synchronization, they must be deleted separately (see the next section).

3. Delete notes from Mi Cloud (cloud storage)
If you've ever enabled sync of notes with Mi Cloud, copies of them could be saved to the cloud even after being deleted from your phone.
- Open the Mi Cloud app (or go to i.mi.com from your computer).
- Sign in with the same Xiaomi account that was used for sync.
- Select the Notes section (or Notes).
- Delete unnecessary entries manually or click Delete Everything (if you need to clear the entire storage).
Important: After you've moved out of the cloud, sync can restore notes on your phone if it's been active.
- ๐ Turn off note synchronization in Settings โ Xiaomi account โ Mi Cloud โ Synchronization.
- ๐ฑ Remove notes from your phone (see section 1) and then clear the cloud.

4. Manually delete note files through file manager
For power users, notes are stored in system folders and can be manually deleted, a method that works if standard methods don't work or you want to erase all traces.
The way to MIUI notes:
/data/data/com.miui.notes/shared_prefs/
/data/data/com.miui.notes/databases/notes.dbTo gain access:
- ๐ง Install a file manager with root access (such as Root Explorer or Root Explorer). FX File Explorer).
- ๐ Follow the path and delete the notes.db files (note database) and folder shared_prefs.
- ๐ Reset the device.
What happens if you delete notes.db without backup?
Without root permissions, access to these folders is restricted, and the alternative is to use ADB (Android Debug Bridge) to delete files:
adb shell
su
rm -rf /data/data/com.miui.notes/databases/notes.db5. Resetting the phone to factory settings (last resort)
If you need to clean your phone completely (for example, before selling), a factory reset will delete all notes, including system files.
- ๐ฑ Delete all data on the device (photos, contacts, applications).
- ๐ The phone will return to the โout of the boxโ stateยป.
- โ๏ธ Notes in Mi Cloud will remain if you do not turn off sync in advance.
How to reset:
- ๐ง Go to Settings. โ The phone. โ Resetting settings.
- ๐ Select โDelete all dataโ and confirm the action.
- ๐ After the reboot, the phone will be clean.
๐ก
Factory reset is the most reliable way to delete notes, but it erases ALL of the contents of the phone. Use it only as a last resort.
If you are selling your phone, before resetting:
โ ๏ธ Attention: Untie your Xiaomi account in Settings โ Xiaomi account โ Otherwise, the new owner will not be able to activate the device due to the link to your account (Mi Account protection).
6.Removal of Notes After Resetting or Restore from Backup
Sometimes notes are โresurrectedโ after the phone is restored from a backup or MIUI update. This is because backups (created through Settings โ Additional โ Backup) include the Notes app data.
To avoid this:
- ๐ฆ Before creating a backup, turn off saving notes in the reservation settings.
- ๐๏ธ If a copy has already been made, delete it in Settings. โ Additionally. โ Backup โ Management of backup copies.
- โ๏ธ Check if sync is enabled with Mi Cloud โ it can restore notes automatically.
If the notes have already been recovered:
- Remove them through the app (see section 1).
- Clear the cache and application data (see Section 2).
- Turn off sync with the cloud.
7. Features of removing notes on different Xiaomi models
The process of removing notes may vary slightly depending on the model and version of MIUI.
| Model/Series | Features of removal | MIUI version |
|---|---|---|
| Redmi Note 10/11/12 | Notes app can be called Notepad. In MIUI 13+, the shopping cart is cleared automatically after 7 days. | 12โ14 |
| Xiaomi 12/13/14 | Support for hidden notes (password protected) that need to be removed separately under Protected. | 13โ14 |
| POCO F3/F4/F5 | On global firmware, the application may not be available โ notes are integrated into Google Keep. | 12โ14 (Global) |
| Redmi 9/9A/9C | In MIUI 11 and below, there is no basket โ notes are deleted irrevocably immediately. | 11โ12 |
On global firmware devices (e.g. POCO or Redmi for the European market), Google Keep or Mi Notes with reduced functionality can be installed instead of standard Notes.
- Delete notes through the appropriate app.
- The sync is done through Google Drive, not the Mi Cloud.
