Why Xiaomi notes may not be synchronized
Synchronizing notes on Xiaomi devices is a seemingly simple task, but many users face problems: data is not updated between devices, notes disappear after a reset or are not stored in the cloud, the reasons can lie in the settings of the smartphone itself, and in the features of the Mi Cloud or Google Drive services.
The main points of failure are disabled autosynchronization, account conflict (for example, if you use both Mi-account and Google-account simultaneously), or storage limitations. Also, often the problem lies in the version of the Notes app - on older devices (for example, Redmi Note 5 or Mi 8) you may need to manually update via Google Play or APK.
In this article, we will analyze all the current synchronization methods β from standard solutions to workarounds for devices without Mi Cloud, as well as give a checklist for troubleshooting.
Method 1: Synchronize with Mi Cloud (official method)
Xiaomiβs most reliable and recommended way is to use its Mi Cloud service, which automatically backs up notes, contacts and other data, but requires an active Mi-account account.
To enable synchronization:
- Open the Notes app on your Xiaomi.
- Slip on the profile icon (or three horizontal lines) β Settings.
- Select Mi Cloud and turn on the slider opposite Sync Notes.
- Make sure your Mi-account is displayed at the top of the screen (if not, log in).
If there is no option, check:
- π± Application version: on older devices MIUI 12 may require an update via Google Play.
- π Internet connection: Mi Cloud only works on active Wi-Fi or mobile network.
- π Autosynchronization: in account settings (Settings) β Accounts. β Mi Cloud: Auto Sync should be enabled.

Important: On global firmware devices (e.g. Redmi Note 11 Pro+ 5G Global), sync via Mi Cloud may be limited due to regional settings.
Method 2: Sync with Google Drive (alternative to Mi Cloud)
If you prefer the Google ecosystem or have a problem with Mi-account, you can sync notes through Google Drive. This method works on all Xiaomi devices with Google services installed (including models for the Chinese market with MIUI China firmware, if they are installed on Google Play).
Instructions:
- Open Settings β Accounts β Google.
- Select your Google account (or add it if not connected).
- Tap Account Sync and enable the slider opposite Notes (or Keep if you use Google Keep).
- Go back to the Notes app and check if the export/import option has appeared via Google.
Limitations of the method:
- β οΈ Notes from Xiaomi are not synced directly with Google Keep β manual export/import will be required.
- π Storage is limited to 15 GB (free Google Drive tariff).
- π Synchronization can be delayed up to 24 hours with a weak Internet connection.

Method 3: Manual export and import of notes (for backup)
If automatic synchronization doesnβt work, or you want to create a local copy of notes, you can use the export function, which is relevant for users who often reset the device to factory settings or switch to a new smartphone.
How to export notes:
- Open the Notes app.
- Slip on the menu icon (three dots or lines) β Settings β Export notes.
- Choose the format:.txt (simple text) or.zip (archive with attachments).
- Specify the folder to save (for example, Downloads or DOCUMENTS).
For import:
- In the same menu, select Import Notes.
- Specify a file with the.txt or.zip extension.
- Confirm the import - notes will appear in the main list.
What to do if the exported notes are not opened?
This method is not suitable for constant synchronization, but is ideal for one-time data transfer to a new device or backup before reset.
Method 4: Third-Party Synchronization Applications
If the standard methods don't work, you can use alternative notes apps that support cloud synchronization.
| Annex | Support for synchronization | Features | Cons |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google Keep | β Google Drive | Integration with other Google services, voice notes | Limited formatting, no folders |
| Microsoft OneNote | β OneDrive | Support for complex formatting, inserting files | Heavy for weak devices (e.g. Redmi 7A) |
| Evernote | β Own cloud | Advanced search for text and images | Restriction on free fare (60 MB/month) |
| Simplenote | β Own cloud | Minimalist interface, Markdown support | No attachments (text only) |
To transfer notes from the standard Notes app to one of the following:
- Export notes to.txt (see Method 3).
- Open the target app (like Google Keep) and create a new note.
- Import text from the file or copy the contents manually.

If you are using Microsoft OneNote, install the official Microsoft app β it is optimized for MIUI and supports authorization via Mi-account for convenience.
Solving synchronization problems
If the notes are not synchronized, check the following points:
β οΈ Attention: On devices with MIUI China (e.g. Xiaomi 12 Pro for the Chinese market) sync function via Mi Cloud can be blocked without being tied to a Chinese phone number. VPN Access to Global Servers.
Checklist for diagnosis:
- π Check the Internet connection: sync only works when you're on active. Try switching from Wi-Fi to mobile data or vice versa.
- π Update the app: Go to Google Play β My apps. β Notes and check for updates.
- π± Reset the cache: in the application settings (Settings) β Annexes β Notes β Storage) press Clear cache.
- π Check Permits: The App Must Have Access to Warehouse, Internet, and Accounts.
If the problem persists:
- Remove and re-add Mi-account or Google-account in your device settings.
- Try syncing notes through another account (for example, if Mi Cloud is not working, use Google).
- Reset the app settings Notes to factory (Settings β Apps β Notes β Reset).
π‘
If synchronization doesnβt work after all the manipulations, try installing an alternative version of the Notes app (e.g. Notes for MIUI from APKMirror).
How to recover deleted notes?
If the notes are missing after being reset or accidentally deleted, you can try to restore them, depending on whether the synchronization is enabled:
Recovery through Mi Cloud:
- Open Settings β Mi Cloud β Notes
- Click Recover Data and select the latest backup.
- Confirm the recovery β notes will be returned to the app.
Recovery via Google Drive:
- Go to the Google Drive website.
- In the Recycle Bin section, find files with the.notes or.txt extension.
- Restore them and import them back into the Notes app.
Recovery through local backup:
If you backed up through Settings β System β Backup, you can restore notes from it:
- Connect the device to your PC and find the MIUI/backup/Notes folder.
- Copy files with the.bak or.db extension.
- Use third-party utilities (such as MIUI Backup Extractor) to extract data.
β οΈ Note: Local Xiaomi backups are encrypted. Recovery may require root access or special software. If you are not sure about your actions, contact the service center.
