Changing your smartphone is always stress, not so much related to getting used to a new interface, but with the risk of losing important data. It’s especially frustrating to find that a shopping list, work ideas, or personal thoughts saved in the standard Notes app on an older device didn’t automatically appear on a new Xiaomi. SIM-When you log in to a Google account, all the information is synced by itself, but this is not always the case.
The problem is that different Android smartphone manufacturers use their own standards to store local records. The data created in the Samsung Notes shell can be invisible to MIUI, and recordings from Huawei Notes can not open without a special converter. However, there are several proven methods that allow you to quickly and safely transfer notes between devices, regardless of the brand of the original gadget.
In this guide, we will look at the most efficient ways to migrate data, from embedded MIUI tools to third-party cloud services. You will learn how to avoid loss of formatting text, images and voice recordings. A critical step is to choose the transmission method before you start setting up a new Xiaomi smartphone, as some methods require pre-prepared old devices. Let’s look at each option in detail so that you can choose the best one for your situation.
Using the built-in Mi Mover app for migration
The easiest and most native way to transfer data to Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO devices is to use the Mi Mover system utility, which is designed specifically for migrating from any Android smartphone and iPhone, providing contact, message, photos and, importantly for us, notes. The process does not require an Internet connection, since direct Wi-Fi connection between devices is created.
To get started, you need to install the app on both phones. On the new Xiaomi models, it is already built into the system and is located in the Tools folder or in the settings menu. APK-If you want to find the file or find the application on Google Play, if the manufacturer of your current gadget has not blocked its operation, then you need to select the role of the device: "Sender" on the old phone and "Receiver" on the new one.
When the devices find each other and establish a connection, the old smartphone will display a list of data categories to transfer. You need to manually select Notes (or Notes), because only contacts and photos can be selected by default. The copying process is quite fast, but the speed depends on the amount of information transmitted and the distance between the gadgets.
☑️ Preparation for transfer via Mi Mover
It is worth noting that Mi Mover may not recognize notes if they are saved in proprietary formats of third-party launchers or secure folders. In such cases, the system will suggest moving only the text part or skip the file altogether. Once the process is completed on the new Xiaomi, all entries will appear in the standard Notes app, saving the folder structure and creation dates.
Sync with Google Keep and Cloud Services
If direct file transfer seems difficult or causes errors, the best solution is to use cross-platform cloud services. Google Keep is a versatile tool that works equally well on any Android, including pure Android One and MIUI shell. The essence of the method is to first export or copy the Keep entries on the old device, and then just log in to your account on the new one.
The synchronization process requires pre-configuring the data source. You need to open the Google Keep app (or install it if it is not available), create a new note or edit an existing one by copying text from your old Notebook there. Make sure that the application settings are synchronized so that the data goes to Google servers.
On the new Xiaomi smartphone, you just need to log in to the same Google account you used before. When you first activate the device or through the sync settings in the Settings menu → Accounts → Google needs to make sure that the switch opposite “Keep” is active. In a few minutes, all your records will appear in the application, ready for editing.
⚠️ Note: When copying large amounts of text from system notes to Google Keep, formatting (bold, listings) can be lost. Always check important documents after transfer and manually restore the structure if necessary.
The alternative is Google Docs or Evernote, if you prefer more advanced text editors, and the principle remains the same: download to the server from the old device and download to the new one, which ensures that your data is not lost even if one of the phones breaks down.
What if Google Keep doesn’t sync your data?
Export and import via files and Bluetooth
For users who prefer to store data locally and don’t trust the cloud, manual export is a good option. Many Android note-taking apps allow you to save entries as text files.txt or.xml. This is ideal if you need to transfer only a few important entries without installing additional software.
First, open the note you want on your old phone, click on the menu (usually three dots), and select Send or Export. In the list of transfer methods that appears, select Bluetooth or Save to File. If you select a file, save it to internal memory. Then transfer this file to Xiaomi via Bluetooth or flip it over USB-cable.
Once you have a file on a new device, just open it. MIUI automatically prompts you to open the text in a suitable application, such as a standard Notes or any text editor. If there are many notes, this process can take time, since each record often has to be exported separately.
- 📱 Open a note on old Android and select the “Share” option».
- 📤 Select the transfer method: Bluetooth, Wi-Fi Direct or memory storage.
- 📥 Accept a file on Xiaomi and open it to copy content.
💡
For mass text transfer, it's easier to use a USB cable and a computer. Copy a folder of exported notes from an old phone to a PC, and then toss it into Xiaomi's memory. That's faster than Bluetooth.
Transfer to your Mi Account (Mi Cloud)
Xiaomi’s ecosystem offers its own cloud service, Mi Cloud, which is deeply integrated into the MIUI shell. If you plan to actively use a Xiaomi smartphone, creating a Mi Account is a logical step. This method is especially effective if you want to not just transfer, but constantly synchronize notes between several Xiaomi devices.
On an older device, if it's Xiaomi, just log in to your Mi Account and enable note sync. If your old phone is from a different brand, you can use the web version of i.mi.com. Sign up, log in to the Notes section and manually create copies of important records or import them if the feature is available for your file format.
On the new Xiaomi smartphone, log in to the same Mi Account via the Settings → Mi Account menu. After authorization, enable sync for Notes. The system automatically pulls all data from the cloud. This provides real-time backup.
| Method | Speed. | We need the Internet. | Preserving formatting |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mi Mover | Tall. | No (locally) | Complete. |
| Google Keep | Medium | Yes. | Partial |
| Bluetooth/File | Low. | No. | Only text |
| Mi Cloud | Medium | Yes. | Complete. |
💡
Using Mi Cloud is the best choice for long-term operation in the Xiaomi ecosystem, ensuring automatic data preservation when a device is lost or replaced.
Solving format compatibility issues
Often, users experience text transfers that have lost images, voice messages, or task lists, due to differences in the architecture of note application databases from different manufacturers, such as Samsung notes that may contain multimedia attachments that standard Xiaomi apps don’t display in previews.
In such cases, it is recommended to use an intermediate format: export a note on an old phone in.pdf or.html format, if the source application allows it, these formats preserve the visual design and allow you to open files on any device without losing view. Although they will be more difficult to edit, access to information will remain guaranteed.
If you’re critically interested in keeping editing, try to find a third-party converter app on Google Play that specializes in migrating from your old brand (like Samsung Notes to Text).
⚠️ Note: Voice recordings embedded in notes are often not carried along with text using simple copying techniques.Save important tape recordings as separate audio files before migrating.
