Where to find and how to listen to the recording of the conversation on Xiaomi Redmi 9: all ways

Are you trying to find a recording of an important phone call on your Xiaomi Redmi 9 but don’t know where to look for it? Or do you want to make sure that the call recording feature works on your device at all? In this article, we’ll look at all the possible ways to access audio conversation files, from standard MIUI tools to third-party apps.

Redmi 9 (M2003J15SC, M2003J15SS, etc.) officially supports call recording, but its settings and file location depend on the firmware version and region. For example, in some EU countries this feature is disabled for legal reasons, we will consider options for all cases, including situations where the recording was manually or through third-party services.

Importantly, if you didn't turn on the recording consciously, then automatic recordings are unlikely -- MIUI doesn't covertly record all calls without your knowledge, but you can check in a few minutes.

1. Standard folder with entries in MIUI: where to look

If you used the built-in recording function during the call (the "Write" button in the call interface), the files are saved in a special folder.

To reproduce the recording:

1. Open the File Manager (the folder icon on the desktop).
2. Follow the specified path or use the search for a keyword call_rec.
3. Slip on the file and it will open in the standard MIUI Music player.

If the folder call_rec empty, check the recording settings in the Phone app: it is possible that the saving is disabled or files are redirected to the cloud.

⚠️ Note: In some versions MIUI 12.5+ In Europe, call records are automatically encrypted, and to listen to them, you need to enter a password from the Mi Account account associated with the phone.

2. How to turn on call recording if it is disabled

If you don't see the recording button during a conversation, it means the function is deactivated.

1. Open the phone application (pipe icon).
2. Tap it on three points (⋮) top-right → Settings.
3. Select Conversation Recording (or Call Recording in English firmware).
4. Activate the Write switch automatically or select Ask before recording.

Additional settings:

• 🔄 Auto Recording: You can select all calls or only for certain contacts.
• ☁️ Cloud-based Save: In some regions, records are automatically uploaded to Mi Cloud (check Settings). → Xiaomi account → Mi Cloud → Backup).
• 📛 Notification of the interlocutor: in some countries (for example, the USA) the system must notify about the recording is a requirement of the law.

4. How to listen to recordings through Mi Cloud

If your Redmi 9 backs up to Mi Cloud, the call records can automatically sync to the cloud to find them:

1. Open your Settings → Xiaomi Account → Mi Cloud.
2. Make sure that the Record Sync function is enabled.
3. Go to i.mi.com and log in.
4. In Devices, select your Redmi 9 → Backups → Call Records.

Restrictions of cloud storage:

• 🔒 Free account Mi Cloud provides only 5 GB of space.
• ⏳ Records are stored in the cloud for 30 days, then automatically deleted (unless the option “Save Forever” is enabled»).
• 📱 To listen directly from your phone, use the Mi Cloud app (cloud icon in the menu).
