Have you accidentally deleted an important bookmark in Xiaomi’s browser or can’t find a saved page? In smartphones, bookmarks can be “hidden” in different places — it all depends on which browser you use, which version of MIUI is installed, and whether the data is synchronized with your account. In this article, we will analyze all possible ways to find bookmarks on Redmi, Poco and Mi phones, including hidden folders and backups.
The thing about MIUI is that it offers multiple browsers out of the box: the standard Mi Browser, Google Chrome (if installed), and sometimes the DucDucGo browser in some regions, each of which stores bookmarks in its own way, and we show you where to look for saved pages in each case, and how to restore them if they are lost after resetting or updating the system.
If you use a non-standard browser (like Opera or Firefox), the instructions below will help, too, because the principles of bookmarking are similar, and for those who like order, we have added a checklist for bookmarking backup to never lose important links again.
1. Standard browser Mi (Mi Browser): where bookmarks are stored
The Mi Browser (renamed Mi Browser in newer versions of MIUI) is a native web browsing app on Xiaomi, where bookmarks are stored locally on the device, but can be synced to your Mi Account. Here's how to find them:
Open your browser (the blue circle icon with the white letter "Mi"). In the lower right corner, tap the tabs icon** (star icon) and display all the saved pages divided into folders:
- 📁 «All bookmarks** - the main list.
- 🌐 «Frequently visited ** - automatically generated list.
- 📥 «Recent"** - the last saved pages.
- 🔄 «Synchronized – if you are logged in to Mi Account.
If there are no bookmarks, check if they are hidden.
- Slip on the three dots in the upper right corner of the browser.
- Select Settings → Bookmarks.
- Make sure that the All Bookmarks display is enabled** (not just the Favorites).
💡
If the bookmarks are gone after the MIUI update, try clearing the browser cache: Settings → Applications → Mi → Storage → Clear the cache. This often helps to return hidden data.
2. Bookmarks in Google Chrome on Xiaomi
Many Xiaomi users install Google Chrome as their primary browser, and they sync their bookmarks to their Google account, so they can be found not only on their phone, but on other devices, to open the list:
Run Chrome and tap three dots in the top right corner. In the drop-down menu, select "Bookmarks"** (star icon) and it will show:
- 📌 «Mobile bookmarks** - saved on this device.
- 🖥️ «Bookmarks from other devices** – if synchronization is enabled.
- 📁 «Other folders** – for example, Favorites or User Categories.
If there are no bookmarks, check:
- Sync enabled: Go to Chrome Settings → Your Profile → Sync.
- Are not bookmarks hidden: in the Bookmarks menu → Bookmarks management check the filters.
- Are they removed accidentally: in the Recycle Bin (available 30 days).
3. Where bookmarks are stored in the Xiaomi file system
Browser bookmarks are stored in system folders, but access to them is limited. If you want to find a backup or export bookmarks manually, here's where to look for them:
| browser | Pathway to the bookmark file | File format |
|---|---|---|
| Mi Browser | /data/data/com.android.browser/app_browsers/Bookmarks | Binary (requires root) |
| Google Chrome | /data/data/com.android.chrome/app_chrome/Default/Bookmarks | JSON (can be opened via PC) |
| Firefox | /data/data/org.mozilla.firefox/files/mozilla/xxxxxxxx.default/bookmarkbackups/ | HTML/JSON |
Attention! These folders are only accessible with root rights or through ADB. Without them, you will see only empty directories. An alternative way is to use backup applications like Titanium Backup (requires root) or Swift Backup.
How to get root rights to Xiaomi?
If you don’t need root but want to save bookmarks, use the built-in export:
- In Mi Browser: Settings → Import/Export → Export bookmarks (saves in HTML).
- In Chrome: Bookmarks → Bookmark Management → Export Bookmarks.
4. How to restore remote bookmarks on Xiaomi
If the bookmarks are gone, don't panic, you can get them back in a number of ways, and the key is to act quickly, especially if you haven't made backups.
Method 1: Recovery with Mi Account
If you logged in to your Mi Account and enabled browser sync:
- Open the Settings. → Accounts. → Mi Account.
- Make sure that the synchronization of the browser is enabled**.
- Restart your phone – bookmarks should come back automatically.
Method 2: Restore from MIUI backup
Xiaomi automatically creates backups once a week to restore the bookmarks.
- Go to Settings → Additional → Backup and Reset.
- Select the latest backup (check the date!).
- Click "Restore"** and tick the browser data.
💡
Backup copies of MIUI are only stored for 30 days, and if the bookmarks were deleted earlier, you can't restore them this way.
Method 3: Through the history of the browser
If the bookmark was saved recently, it can be found in the history:
- In Mi Browser: Open History → Search by Keywords
- In Chrome: Three Dots → History → Search the Site.
Check sync with Mi. Account/Google|Search in browser history|Restore from backup copy MIUI|Export bookmarks regularly-->
5. Synchronization of bookmarks between devices
To avoid losing bookmarks when changing your phone or resetting your settings, set up automatic sync. At Xiaomi, you can do this in two ways:
Synchronization with Mi Account (for Mi Browser):
- Open your browser and tap the avatar in the upper right corner.
- Sign in to your Mi Account (or create a new one).
- Enable the option "Synchronization bookmarks"**.
Synced with Google (for Chrome):
- Open Chrome → Settings → Your profile.
- Turn on “Synchronization”** and select Bookmarks.
Important: if you use both browsers (Mi Browser and Chrome), sync works independently. Mi Browser tabs won't appear in Chrome, and vice versa. To combine them, export bookmarks from one browser to HTML, and then import them into another.
6 Hidden bookmarks and folders in MIUI
MIUI has hidden system folders where bookmark backups can be stored, for example, after a system update, old bookmarks are sometimes duplicated in:
- 📂 /MIUI/backup/AllBackup/.tmp/ — backup.
- 📂 /Android/data/com.android.browser/cache/ — browser cache.
To access these folders:
- Connect your phone to your PC and enable File Transfer** (MTP).
- Use Windows Explorer or File Manager (such as Total Commander).
- Enable the display of hidden files in the display settings.
💡
If you lose bookmarks a lot, install a third-party bookmark manager like Raindrop.io or Pocket. They save links in the cloud and work on any device.
Attention! Do not delete files from MIUI/backup folders manually, this may disrupt the backup. If you need to free up space, use the built-in cleanup function in Settings → Storage.
7. Frequent Bookmarking Problems on Xiaomi and Their Solutions
Xiaomi users often face a few typical bookmarking problems, and here are the most common ways to solve them:
| Problem. | Possible cause | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| The bookmarks disappeared after the MIUI update | Reset browser settings | Restore from backup or sync with Mi Account |
| The bookmarks are not synchronized | Synchronization in the account is disabled | Check your Mi Account/Google settings |
| It is impossible to export bookmarks | Not enough rights. | Grant permissions to access the storage facility |
| Bookmarks are duplicated | Synchronization conflict | Clear the browser cache and restart the phone |
If none of the methods helped, try resetting your browser settings:
- Go to Settings → Applications → Mi/Chrome browser.
- Select "Storage» → «Clear the data».
