Why the Health app disappeared from the Redmi 9 home screen
You just bought a Xiaomi Redmi 9 or upgraded your MIUI firmware, and the Health app icons are nowhere to be found? This is a typical situation for Xiaomi smartphones, where system utilities are often hidden in non-obvious sections. The fact is that Redmi 9 (codenamed lancelot) comes with a lightweight version of MIUI, where some apps are disabled by default or hidden in the βinvisible folderβ.
Another reason is that the Health app can be integrated into Settings as a submenu, rather than a separate software. For example, in some regional firmware, Xiaomi replaces Mi Health with Google Fit, but leaves the pedometer and sleep monitoring functionality in the system tools, and then we look at all the possible places where this utility can hide, and what to do if it does not exist at all.
Method 1: Search through the notification panel (fast access)
The easiest way to find the Health app is to use the Quick Access Bar. Swipe down from the top edge of the screen to open the notification curtain, and then:
- Touch the Edit icon** (pencil in the lower right corner).
- Scroll down the list β look for the Stepmer or Health tile.
If there's no tile, it means that the app is either disabled or removed from the firmware, so move on to the next way.
π‘
Some versions of MIUI have a Health tile called "Mi Fit" or "Activity." Try to find it under those names.
Method 2: Search in the hidden folder βGoogle Servicesβ
Xiaomi often hides system applications in the Google Services or Tools folder to find them:
- Open the main screen and swipe left to go to the page with the weather widget.
- Scroll down to the Tools or Utilities section.
If the folder is not there, try another way:
- π οΈ If the application is found but does not start, it is disabled (read method 4).
Method 3: Checking in MIUI settings (built-in monitoring)
In Redmi 9, some of the health features can be built directly into the system settings to check:
- Go to Settings β Google β Google Services β Physical Activity.
- If there is a section, turn on Activity Tracking** and allow access to sensors.
- Alternative path: Settings β Applications β Application Management β Systems tab β Health.
If you don't have any of these options in your settings, your firmware doesn't support built-in health monitoring, so you just have to manually install the app (method 5).
What to do if there is no βhealthβ section in the settings?
Method 4: Enabling a disabled application
If the Health app has been disabled (for example, after resetting or optimizing the system), it can be returned without reinstalling.
Open Settings β Applications β Application Management
Go to the All Apps tab (or Systems)
Find the list com.mi.health or Mi Health
Press βEnableβ** (if the button is active)
Reboot the phone.-->
If com.mi.health is not listed, it means that the app has been removed from firmware, as is the case with some regional versions of Redmi 9 (e.g. India or Europe), and only manual installation will help.
β οΈ Warning: Don't confuse the health system app (com.mi.health) with Mi Fit (com.xiaomi.hm.health).The latter is designed to work with Mi Band fitness bracelets and may not show data from smartphone sensors.
Method 5: Install the Health App manually
If all the previous methods didn't work, you just have to install the app yourself.
- Download. APK-Mi Health file from a trusted source (e.g. APKCombo or APKMirror).
- Before installation, allow installation from unknown sources: Settings β Applications β Special Access β Installation of unknown applications.
- Install the APK and restart the phone.
Important: Make sure the app version is compatible with your firmware. Mi Health 5.0.0 or later will work for Redmi 9. If the app doesn't see steps after you install it, check the permissions:
- π± Settings β Annexes β Health β Permits.
- π Include access to physical activity, sensors and background work.
- π Disable battery optimization for the app.
π‘
If Mi Health does not display steps after installation, check if the pedometer is turned on in the sensor settings: Settings β Additional β Stepmer.
Table: MIUI versions and availability of the Health app in Redmi 9
| MIUI version | Firmware region | The Health Appendix by Default | The alternative |
|---|---|---|---|
| MIUI 11 | Global (EEA) | Absent. | Google Fit |
| MIUI 12.0 / 12.5 | China (CN) | Built into the settings. | β |
| MIUI 12.5 Enhanced | Russia (RU) | Hidden in the Tools folder | Mi Fit |
| MIUI 13 | India (IN) | Removed. | Manual installation required |
If your version of MIUI is not listed in the table, check the firmware region in Settings β About Phone β MIUI Version. For example, firmware for India (IN) often lacks many system utilities, including Health.
