You copied text or a link on your Xiaomi Redmi, but can't find where it disappeared? The clipboard in smartphones on MIUI works differently than on "pure" Android - its history is hidden in the system tools, and access to it depends on the firmware version. In this article, we will examine exactly where the clipboard is stored on different Redmi models (from Redmi Note 10 to Redmi 12), how to enable advanced features and what to do if the copied data suddenly disappears.
The contrast with other brands is obvious: for example, on Samsung, the clipboard opens through the keyboard, and on Google Pixel β through the notification panel. Xiaomi integrated this feature into MIUI, but not all users are aware of its existence. Moreover, after upgrading to MIUI 14, the menu layout changed, too, we will discuss this below.
1. Standard method: where to look for clipboard in MIUI
On most Redmi smartphones (except for older models on MIUI 10 and below), the clipboard is built into the Xiaomi keyboard (Mi Keyboard) to open it.
- Open any field to enter text (for example, in Messages or Notes).
- Tap the input line and the keyboard will appear.
- Click on the clipboard icon (the icon with two documents) in the top panel of the keyboard.
- If there is no icon, tap on it. βοΈ Settings in the keyboard and enable the clipboard option.
In the menu that opens, you will see the history of the last 20 copied items (text, links, phone numbers).
- π Secure important entries (click on three dots next to the item).
- ποΈ Remove unnecessary (swipe left).
- π Search by history (magnifying glass icon at the top).

If the clipboard doesnβt save history, check if sync with your Mi Account is enabled. Go to Settings β Xiaomi Account β Sync β Clipboard
On Redmi with MIUI 13/14, copy history syncs between devices if you use one Mi Account. For example, copied text on your phone can be pasted on a Xiaomi Pad tablet.
2. Alternative method: through the notification panel
In MIUI 12.5 and later, the clipboard is duplicated in the notification bar, which is convenient if you do not want to open the keyboard:
- Swipe down from the top edge of the screen to open the notification curtain.
- Find the clipboard tab (may be called the Last Copies).
- Slip it, and it will open the same story as the keyboard.
If there is no tab, it must be activated:
- Open Settings β Notifications and Status bar.
- Select Control Panel.
- Find the clipboard and drag it into active elements.
Important: On some models (e.g. Redmi 9A with MIUI 12), the clipboard in the notification panel is displayed only after the first copy of the text.
3. Where the clipboard is physically stored: technical details
In terms of the system, the clipboard in MIUI is not a single file, but a part of the clipboard service that runs in the background, but the copy history is stored in the database along the way:
/data/data/com.miui.systemui/shared_prefs/com.miui.systemui.clipboard.xmlThis file is only accessible with root rights, and without root rights, you can't manually edit or restore the story.
- π Sync with Mi Cloud: If enabled, history is saved on Xiaomi servers.
- π± Backup: When creating a backup through Settings β The phone. β A backup copy of the clipboard is included in the archive.
- π οΈ ADB-Teams: You can export the base through adb pull, but it requires technical skills.
How to recover the history of the clipboard after resetting?
| MIUI version | Location of the exchange buffer | Max, number of records. | Synchronization with Mi Cloud |
|---|---|---|---|
| MIUI 10/11 | Only on the keyboard. | 10 | β No. |
| MIUI 12/12.5 | Keyboard + notification panel | 20 | β Yes. |
| MIUI 13/14 | Keyboard + notification panel + widget | 50 (with fixed) | β Yes. |
| MIUI for POCO | Just the keyboard. | 15 | β No. |
4.Buffer problems and their solutions
If the clipboard on your Redmi doesnβt work, check out these points:
β οΈ Attention: After updating to MIUI 14 Some users complain about clipboard history being reset, due to a change in storage structure. To avoid loss, prior to updating, pin important entries (click on three dots next to the item).
- π No history saved: Check if the option to Save clipboard history is enabled in the keyboard settings (keyboard settings) β Additionally. β buffer).
- π± The clipboard is empty: Restart the phone - sometimes the clipboard service freezes.
- π Not synced between devices: Update Mi Cloud in Settings β Xiaomi account.
- π« Buffer icon gone: Reset keyboard settings (Settings) β Annexes β Application management β keyboard β Warehouse β Clear the data).
If the problem persists, try installing a third-party keyboard (like Gboard or SwiftKey) that has its own clipboard, but note that the story from MIUI won't carry over.

5.Extended clipboard functions in MIUI
In addition to basic copying, MIUI offers additional tools for working with the clipboard:
- π Fixed records: Click on three dots next to the item and select Secure. These records will not be deleted automatically.

- π€ Exporting History: Through Settings β Additionally. β Data export (Mi Account required).
- π Protection of confidential data: B MIUI 14 there was an option Do not save passwords in the clipboard.
On the Redmi Note 11 and later, there is a Smart Copy feature: if you copy a phone number, the system will prompt you to call or save it to contacts, similarly works with addresses and links.
To enable smart copying:
- Go to Settings β Special features β Smart copying.
- Activate the switch.
- Select the types of data to recognize (numbers, addresses, email).
π‘
Smart copying only works in English and Chinese, and is less effective for Russian text.
6. Third-party clipboard applications
If the built-in clipboard in MIUI isnβt enough, consider these apps from Google Play:
| Annex | Features | Synchronization |
|---|---|---|
| Clipboard Manager | Unlimited history, categories, search | β Google Drive |
| Clip Stack | Widget for quick access, fixing records | β No. |
| Copy Bubble | Floating bubble with history, quick insert | β Developer cloud |
The advantage of third-party applications is advanced features such as:
- π Categories (text, links, images).
- π Sync with Google Drive or Dropbox.
- π¨ Editing copied text directly in the buffer.
β οΈ Note: When using third-party clipboards, disable the built-in MIUI, To avoid duplicate history, go to Keyboard Settings. β Additionally. β buffer β Shut down.
Clipboard on older Redmi models (MIUI 10 and below)
If you have a Redmi 5/6/7 or another model with a MIUI 10, there's no built-in clipboard with a story.
- π The last copy is saved only until the next copy (standard Android mechanism).
- π§ Solution: Install a third-party app (like Clipper) or upgrade your firmware to MIUI 12+.
- βοΈ Update: Check the availability of the new version MIUI In Settings β The phone. β Updating the system.
There is no sync with Mi Cloud on these devices either, so when you reset or replace your phone, the history will be lost.
