Why Redmi 9T Call Records Are Gone and Where to Find Them
You turned on a recording of a conversation on Xiaomi Redmi 9T, but after the call is over, you can't find the file? This problem is familiar to many owners of smartphones with MIUI firmware. The fact is that the system defaults to save audio files not in the standard Downloads or Music folder, but in hidden directories, the path to which depends on the firmware version and the recording method.
What’s more, in MIUI 12.5 and later, call records can be automatically archived to the Mi Cloud if sync is enabled, and local files can be deleted after 30 days to save space, and we analyzed all possible scenarios and compiled a checklist of places to search for your audio recordings.
It is important to note that Redmi 9T can record conversations with both the built-in voice recorder and the Phone app (if activated in settings), which not only affects the location of files, but also their format -.m4a,.amr or.mp3.
Official folders for MIUI records
First, check the standard directories where MIUI stores audio files by default, and can be found through any file manager (e.g., the built-in Explorer or Total Commander).
- 📁 Internal memory. → MIUI → sound_recorder — It's where you can store the records that you made with the built-in voice recorder.m4a and are named by date (e.g, 20260515_143022.m4a).
- 📁 Internal memory. → Recorder - an alternative folder for recordings from a recorder (in some versions) MIUI).
- 📁 Internal memory. → CallRecord – if you used the recording function directly during the call (it requires activation in the settings of the Phone application»).
If these folders aren't there, don't panic. They may be hidden.
- Open the “Conductor” (the folder icon on the desktop).
- Slip on three dots in the upper right corner → “Settings”.
- Activate the option “Show hidden files”.
💡
If the CallRecord folder is empty but you are sure that the recording was done, check the settings of the Phone application. In some regions (for example, in the EU), the call recording function is disabled by law and requires manual activation through the engineering menu.
Cloud Storage: Mi Cloud and Google Drive
Modern versions of MIUI actively sync data to the Mi Cloud. If the Xiaomi account settings enabled the option “Record Backup”, your audio files could automatically upload to the cloud.
- Open “Settings” → “Xiaomi Account” → “Mi Cloud” →
- Scroll down to the Backup section and tap the Records.
- If the function is active, click “Restore” and select the desired files.
Also, records can be saved to Google Drive if you use third-party applications to record calls (such as Cube Call Recorder or ACR) to find them:
- 🔍 Open Google Drive in your browser.
- 🔍 In the search bar, type:audio.
- 🔍 Filter the results by date of creation.
Hidden system catalogs and engineering menus
If the recordings were made through the built-in feature of the Phone application, but they are not in the standard folders, check the hidden system directories.
- Connect Redmi 9T to your PC via USB (in file transfer mode).
- In Windows Explorer, go along the path:
This computer \Redmi 9T\Internal drive \Android\data\com.android.providers.media\files\CallRecordIf the folder is empty or missing, try activating the call recording via the engineering menu:
- Open the phone app.
- Enter the code ##4636##.
- Go to the “Phone Information” section → “Call Recording Settings”.
- Enable Auto Record and specify a save path (e.g. /sdcard/CallRecord/).
What to do if the engineering menu is not opened?
