Why is it important to sync your contacts with your Mi Account?
Losing contacts is one of the most frustrating situations for a smartphone owner: Imagine if you change your phone, reset your settings, or your device goes down, and all numbers, addresses, birthdays disappear forever. Synchronizing your contacts with your Xiaomi account solves this problem once and for all. Your data is stored in the Mi Cloud, protected from loss, and available on any device under your Mi Account.
But how does it work in practice? Unlike Google contacts, which sync automatically on most Android devices, Xiaomi offers its own cloud solution, which is integrated into MIUI firmware and has a number of advantages: for example, the ability to restore contacts even after resetting the phone to factory settings. However, many users have questions: how to enable sync, what to do if contacts are not saved, and how to transfer them to a new smartphone Redmi or POCO.
In this article, we will discuss 5 proven ways to save contacts to your Xiaomi account, including manual and automatic synchronization, export / import via.vcf files, as well as solution errors. MIUI (12 to 14) and smartphone models.
Method 1: Automatic synchronization via Mi Cloud
The easiest and most reliable method is to enable automatic synchronization through the built-in Mi Cloud, which works on all Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO smartphones with the current version of MIUI (12 and above), the main condition is the presence of a registered Mi Account and a stable Internet connection.
To activate synchronization:
- Open Settings โ Mi Account (or Xiaomi Account in new versions).
- Sign in to your account if you are not already logged in.
- Go to the Mi Cloud section โ Synchronization.
- Find the Contact Point and move the slider to the right.
- Wait until the first synchronization is completed (may take a few minutes).
After that, all changes to your phone book will automatically be saved to the cloud. Importantly, if you delete a contact on your phone, it will also disappear from the Mi Cloud - this is two-way synchronization. To avoid accidental losses, we recommend periodically backing up (more on this in the next section).
Is Mi Cloud enabled in your account settings?
Is there a checkmark next to the "Contact" item?
Has there been a notification of the synchronization completion?

Method 2: Manual contact backup in MIUI
If automatic synchronization fails for some reason (e.g., due to corporate network limitations or account issues), you can back up contacts manually, a method that works for all versions of MIUI, including older ones (e.g., MIUI 11 on the Redmi Note 8).

- Open the Contacts app (an icon with a personโs silhouette).
- Click on the three dots in the top right corner โ Contact management โ Import/Export contacts.
