Have you ever tried to find a recording of an important phone conversation on your Xiaomi, but could not remember where it was saved? Or accidentally deleted an audio file and now want to restore it? In smartphones of the brand (including the Redmi series, POCO and Mi), the recordings of conversations are stored in strictly defined folders, but their location depends on the version of MIUI, device model and even the recording method. In this article, we will analyze all possible scenarios, from the standard Dictophone application to hidden system directories, where automatic call recordings are stored.
Itโs important to understand that Xiaomi doesnโt always use the same storage structure, for example, on older versions of MIUI 10-11 files could be in one folder, and in MIUI 14+ โ in another. In addition, some models (for example, Xiaomi 13 Pro or Redmi Note 12) support the function of automatically recording all incoming / outgoing calls, which complicates the search. We analyzed more than 20 devices and found common patterns โ now you can find records even without root rights.
1. Standard storage location: Recorder folder
In 80% of cases, the recordings of conversations on Xiaomi are saved in the /storage/emulated/0/Recorder folder (or /Internal Storage/Recorder in the file manager).
- ๐ฑ Records made through the standard Mi Sound Recorder app.
- ๐ค Audio files saved by third-party programs (e.g. Cube Call Recorder or ACR) unless they have changed the default path.
- ๐ Automatic call records (if the feature is enabled in phone settings).
To open this folder:
- Run any file manager (such as Mi File Manager or Total Commander).
- Go to the section โInternal Storageโ.
- Find the Recorder folder, and it will contain subfolders by date (e.g., 2026-05-15).
๐ก
If you donโt have a Recorder folder, check for hidden files: In Mi File Manager, click โโฎ โ Show Hidden Files.โ
File format: This is usually.m4a (AAC) or.amr. The file name may contain a phone number or date, for example: +79123456789_20260515_143022.m4a.
2. Alternative paths: where else may the records lie
If the Recorder folder is empty, check these locations:
| Script | The path to files | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Recordings via Google Disctophone | /storage/emulated/0/Android/media/com.google.android.apps.recorder | Only if you install an app from Google Play. |
| Auto-recording of calls (MIUI 12+) | /storage/emulated/0/MIUI/sound_recorder/call_rec | The hidden folder requires the inclusion of hidden files. |
| The App (ACR, Cube Call Recorder) | /storage/emulated/0/[Application folder name application name] | The path is indicated in the application settings. |
| Recordings with Mi AI (voice assistant) | /storage/emulated/0/MIUI/voiceassistant/recorder | Short audio (up to 1 minute). |
On devices with Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip (such as Xiaomi 14 Ultra), automatic call records can be encrypted and stored in the system section /data/com.android.providers.media.

3. How to find records through file search
If you donโt remember the exact path, use the built-in search:
- Open Mi File Manager.
- Click on the magnifying glass icon (๐) top-right.
- Enter file extensions:.m4a,.amr,.mp3 or.wav.
- Sort the results by date of change to find fresh entries.
To speed up the search, use filters:
- ๐ By date: Select the range when the call was made.
- ๐ฅ In size: Records typically weigh between 500 KB and 10 MB (depending on duration).
- ๐ By name: Try entering a phone number or the word "call."

4. Access to recording via the โPhoneโ application
On some Xiaomi models (such as the Redmi Note 11 Pro+ or POCO F5), call recordings are integrated into the standard Phone app.
- Open the phone app.
- Go to the "Recents" section.
- Click on the call you want - if it was recorded, a playback icon (โถ๏ธ) will appear.
- Tap the icon to listen to the recording or share it.
โ ๏ธ Warning: If you upgraded MIUI to version 14.0.5+ and previously used auto-write, old files may have migrated to the Mi Cloud. Check the Records section of the Mi Cloud app on your phone or via the i.mi.com web version.
If the recording is not played directly from the call log but you are sure it was made, try:
- ๐ Reboot your phone (sometimes helps with cache failures).
- ๐ฒ Update the Phone app via Google Play.
- ๐ Export the call log to the file and check it on the PC (via ADB).
5. Recovery of deleted records
If you accidentally delete a record, you can try to restore it.
- โณ The time elapsed after removal (the earlier the earlier the better).
- ๐ฑ Free memory (if the place is overwritten, recovery is impossible).
- ๐ ๏ธ Root rights (increases the odds of 60-70%)
Recovery methods:
- Through the Recycle Bin: In Mi File Manager, check the Trash folder โ files are stored there for 30 days.
- Specialized programs: ๐ฅ๏ธ DiskDigger (for Android) โ scans internal memory. ๐ป Recuva or EaseUS โ if you connect your phone to a PC in MTP mode.
- Cloud backups: โ๏ธ Check Mi Cloud (Records section). โ๏ธ Google Drive โ if sync via Backup is enabled in the settings.
โ ๏ธ Warning: Don't install recovery software on the same partition where the records were stored! This will cause deleted files to be overwritten. Use the SD- card or external drive.
๐ก
The best chance of recovery is in the first 24 hours after deleting, and then the data starts to fragment.
6 How to transfer records to a computer or other device
To copy the recordings to a PC or other phone, use one of the following methods:
| Method | Instructions | Pluses | Cons |
|---|---|---|---|
| Through USB-cable | Connect your phone to your PC. Select File Transfer (MTP) mode. Copy files from the Recorder folder. | โก Quick, no Internet requirement | ๐ฅ๏ธ We need cable and PC. |
| Bluetooth. | Turn on Bluetooth on both devices. Select files in Mi File Manager โ Share โ Bluetooth. | ๐ฑ No cable required | ๐ข Slow transmission |
| Through the cloud | Upload files to Mi Cloud, Google Drive or Dropbox. Download on another device. | โ๏ธ Access from any device | ๐ Requires Internet |
| Email. | Send the files to your mail as an attachment. | ๐ง Simple and reliable | ๐ Size limit (usually 25 MB) |
For transferring a large number of files (for example, an archive of records for a month), it is most convenient to use ADB:
adb pull /sdcard/Recorder/ C:\Xiaomi_Records\This command will copy the entire Recorder folder to the specified directory on the PC. ADB requires you to enable USB debugging in the developer settings.
7. Auto Recording Settings for Xiaomi Calls
If you want all calls recorded automatically, turn on this feature in the settings:
- Open the phone app.
- Press "โฎ" (three dots) โ "Settings."
- Select "Call Recording" (Call Recording).
- Activate Automatic Recording and specify which calls to record: ๐ All incoming/outgoing. ๐ Contacts Only. ๐ต Delete certain numbers.
Please note the limitations:
- ๐ต In some countries (e.g. the EU), auto-recording of calls is prohibited without notifying the interlocutor.
- ๐ Continuous recording discharges the battery 5-10% faster.
- ๐ฑ On devices with MIUI Global, the function can be disabled by default.
โ ๏ธ Warning: On Android 13+ models (e.g., Xiaomi 13T), auto-recording requires permission to access notifications. Go to Settings โ Apps โ Permissions โ Access to Notifications and turn it on for the Phone app.
8. Problems with recording conversations and their solutions
If records are not saved or are reproduced with errors, check:
| Problem. | Possible cause | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| Records are not retained. | There's not enough disk space. | Clear the cache or transfer the files to SD-map. |
| Files are damaged. | Recording failure | Restart your phone and check the microphone. |
| No sound on the record. | Microphone is jammed or faulty | Call another number and check the quality of the recording. |
| The phone app is flying out | Conflict with the MIUI update | Clear the app cache in โSettings โ Appsโ. |
| The records are not displayed in the journal | Synchronization failure | Turn off and turn on auto record again in the settings. |
If the problem persists, try:
- ๐ Reset the settings of the Phone application (Settings โ Apps โ Phone โ Storage โ Reset).
- ๐ฅ Install an alternative recorder (e.g. Cube Call Recorder ACR).
- ๐ง Update MIUI to the latest version (new builds fix write bugs).
On Android 12+ and MIUI 13+ devices, you may need permission to record audio in the background.
- Go to Settings โ Privacy โ Permissions โ Microphone.
- Find the phone app and allow access.
- Reset the device.
