Have you turned on a call recording on Xiaomi but can't find a file? Or have you accidentally deleted an important audio file and are trying to recover it? The problem with finding call records on a Xiaomi smartphone is more common than you think. The fact is that MIUI hides audio files from the user β they don't show up in the standard file manager, and the paths to them depend on the firmware version, the phone model, and even regional settings.
In this article, weβll look at all possible storage locations, from obvious folders in internal memory to system directories only available through ADB or Root. Youβll also learn how to extract records from a broken Xiaomi without losing data, why files can disappear after a MIUI update, and which apps will help automate search. If youβre using the Redmi Note 10 Pro, POCO X3 or Xiaomiβs flagship 13 series, instructions will be suitable for all models with MIUI 12-14.
Standard folders for calling records in MIUI
By default, Call Recorder (or Call Recorder in global firmware) saves files to secure system directories, which can be found without Root rights, but the path depends on the version of MIUI:
- π MIUI 12β14 (2020β2026 garland.): /storage/emulated/0/MIUI/sound_recorder/call_rec/
- π MIUI 11 older: /storage/emulated/0/Recordings/CallRecord/ or /sdcard/CallRecord/
- π Global firmware (EEA/Global): /storage/emulated/0/Android/data/com.android.incallui/files/CallRecordings/
- π For models with Dual App: folders can be duplicated with a suffix _1 or _2 (for example, call_rec_1).
To open these folders:
- Use the built-in file manager (Files or Explorer) and enable the display of hidden files in the settings.
- In the address bar, enter the path manually β autocomplete may not work.
- If the folder is empty, check the permissions for the application Record calls to Settings β Applications β Permissions Management β Storage.
Important: in some regions (e.g. the EU), call recording is disabled by default due to privacy laws. ADB-team:
adb shell settings put global call_recording_enabled 1Why Call Records Are Disappearing or Not Saved
Xiaomi users often find that the records are missing after:
- β‘ Updates MIUI β System folders can move around, and old files donβt automatically migrate.
- π Resetting settings β even a βsoftβ reset sometimes clears the directory call_rec.
- π± Switching SIM-maps β if the record is tied to a specific SIM, It could become inaccessible.
- π οΈ Clearing the cache of the phone application or recording calls.
Another common reason is automatic deletion, and call recording settings (Settings β Call Record β Storage) may have a time limit (e.g., βDelete Records Over 30 Daysβ). Check this setting!
π‘
If the records disappeared after the update, try rolling back the Phone version of the app via APK. Download the old version from APKMirror and install manually.
β οΈ Note: Some models (e.g. Xiaomi) 12T or Redmi K50) Records are encrypted and linked to your Mi Account, and when you log out, files become inaccessible!
How to find records through system tools (without Root)
If the standard folders are empty, try these methods:
1. Search for file extension
The recordings of calls to MIUI are saved in the following formats:
- π΅.AMR - compressed audio format (most often)
- π΅.mp3 or.m4a β newer MIUI
- π΅.ogg β for noise-canceling recordings
Open the file manager, search for.amr or.mp3 and wait for the results.
- record_20260515_143022.amr (date + time)
- call_+79123456789_1715780123.mp3 (number + timestamp)
2.Export via the "Recording of Calls" app
If the post appears in the conversation list but the file is not in the folder:
- Open the Phone application β the Recording tab.
- Click on the desired entry β Share β Select Save to Files.
- The file will appear in /storage/emulated/0/Download/.
Check the permissions for the phone application"|Update. MIUI last-minute|Clear the cache of the application "Recording calls"|Try to record a call to another. SIM-map-->
3. View through "Recent Files"
MIUI 13/14 has added a new tracking feature:
- Open Settings β Applications β Recent files.
- In the list, find the Call Record or Phone.
- Click on the record. β Open the folder.
Search for Xiaomi entries with Root rights
If standard methods didnβt help and the phone has Root (or youβre ready to get one), check out these directories:
| Way | Description | MIUI version |
|---|---|---|
| /data/user/0/com.android.incallui/app_callRec | Main folder for records (requires Root) | 12β14 |
| /data/media/0/MIUI/sound_recorder/call_rec/.nomedia | Hidden folder (delete the.nomedia file to see the records) | 11β14 |
| /data/data/com.miui.voiceassist/files/CallRecord | Records made through voice assistant | 13β14 |
| /sdcard/Android/data/com.android.dialer/files/CallRecordings | Alternative folder for global firmware | 12β14 (Global) |
To access these folders:
- Install Root Explorer (such as FX File Explorer or Solid Explorer).
- Give the app Root rights via Magisk or SuperSU.
- Click one of the paths above and copy the files to a safe location.
β οΈ Note: Delete or modify files in /data/data/ This can cause system applications to crash. First, back up through TWRP or ADB Backup!
How to get Root on Xiaomi without risk
Recovery of Deleted Call Records
If files have been deleted, you can try to restore them using specialized tools.
- β³ The time after the removal (the earlier the better).
- π± Memory type (only) UFS 3.1 Recovery is more difficult than on eMMC).
- π Phone activity (write new files reduces your chances).
The best recovery programs:
- π οΈ DiskDigger β Search for files by signature.amr/.mp3.
- π οΈ Recuva (requires to connect your phone to your PC in mode) MTP).
- π οΈ EaseUS MobiSaver β Supports deep scanning.
Instructions for DiskDigger:
- Install the app from Google Play.
- Select Full Scan (requires Root).
- Filter the results by expanding.amr or.mp3.
- Save the recovered files to SD-map.
π‘
Donβt save recovered files back to the phoneβs internal memory β this can overwrite the remaining data snippets!
Alternative ways to record and store calls
If Xiaomiβs built-in feature is unstable, consider third-party solutions:
| Annex | Features | Reference |
|---|---|---|
| Cube ACR | Record both sides of the conversation, cloud backup | Google Play |
| Call Recorder by Lovekush | VoIP (WhatsApp, Telegram) support, recording encryption | Google Play |
| Automatic Call Recorder | Automatic entry by rules (for example, only unknown numbers) | Google Play |
Advantages of third-party applications:
- π Encrypting records (for example, in Cube) ACR password-setting).
- βοΈ Automatic download in Google Drive or Dropbox.
- π Advanced settings (for example, writing only certain contacts).
Disadvantages:
- π« On some Xiaomi models, third-party apps canβt record conversations due to restrictions MIUI.
- π Increased battery consumption (constant operation in the background).
Removing records from broken Xiaomi
If the phone doesnβt turn on but the internal memory is intact, the records can be saved:
1.Through TWRP Recovery
If the phone has custom recovery installed:
- Download to TWRP (Press Power + Volume Up).
- Connect your phone to your PC via USB.
- In TWRP, select Mount β Enable MTP.
- On PC, open your phone as an external drive and copy the folder /MIUI/sound_recorder/call_rec/.
2. via Fastboot (no Root)
If TWRP is not available, Fastboot will work:
- Install Android Platform Tools on your PC.
- Connect your phone in Fastboot mode (press Power + Volume Down).
- Run the command to create an image of user data: fastboot pull /dev/block/by-name/userdata userdata.img
- Open userdata.img in DiskInternals Linux Reader or 7-Zip and find the folder with entries.
β οΈ Note: Fastboot requires knowledge and can lead to data loss if you do not do it correctly!
