Why Files Are โDisappearingโ on Xiaomi and Where to Look for Them
You downloaded a document, a photo or a video, but you can't find it in a gallery or a file manager? This problem is familiar to many owners of Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO smartphones. The fact is that MIUI distributes downloads to different folders depending on the type of file and how you download it, browsers, instant messengers and even some applications create their own directories, which makes it difficult to find.
Another reason for the โdisappearanceโ of files is automatic sorting in the MIUI. For example, images from the Internet can immediately enter the Gallery, and PDF-documents - in Files โ Documents: If you use third-party browsers like Chrome or Firefox, they also save downloads to their folders, which are not always visible in the standard Explorer.
In this article, weโll take a look at all possible storage locations for downloaded files on Xiaomi, including hidden system directories, and show you how to find them even if theyโre โlostโ after updating MIUI or resetting settings.
Standard Downloads folder on Xiaomi
The first place to look for downloaded files is the Downloads system folder, which is automatically created when you first download something from a browser or other applications, and you can find it in several ways:
- ๐ File Manager: Open the File Application โ Go to the Category tab โ select Downloads.
- ๐ Through Search: In the same Files app, tap on the magnifier icon at the top and type โDownloadsยป.
- ๐ฑ Through the Explorer: The Path to the Folder โ /storage/emulated/0/Download/ (or /sdcard/Download/ older versions MIUI).
Note: If you downloaded files via Google Chrome, they can be stored in a separate folder /storage/emulated/0/Download/Chrome/. The same goes for Firefox, Opera, and other browsers โ each has its own subdirectory.

If the Downloads folder is empty, check your browser settings: it is possible that the save path has been changed manually. โฎ โ Settings โ Downloads.
Where files from messengers are stored (Telegram, WhatsApp, Viber)
Messengers usually save media files and documents to their folders, which are not always visible in the standard gallery.
| Annex | The way to the folder | Features |
|---|---|---|
| Telegram | /storage/emulated/0/Telegram/Telegram Files/ | Files are sorted by types: Documents, Images, Video. In the Telegram settings, you can change the save path. |
| /storage/emulated/0/WhatsApp/Media/ | Media files automatically appear in the gallery if the option Media Visibility is enabled in the chat settings. | |
