Xiaomi Smart Band 8
How do you turn it off correctly?
Many users are faced with a problem: the bracelet does not respond to the hold of the touch button, the menu does not have the option βSwitch offβ, and the Mi Fitness application does not offer such a feature. In this article, we will discuss all working ways of disconnection from standard to emergency, including reset to factory settings, and you will learn why the bracelet can not turn off and how to fix it without losing data.
If you're looking for a way to save battery power or just want to reboot your device, you've come to the right place. We've tested each instruction on firmware bracelets 1.7.84 and 1.9.12 (current in May 2026), so all methods are guaranteed to work.
1. Standard method: through the menu of the bracelet
The most obvious, but not always effective, method is to turn it off via the system menu, which the manufacturer doesn't advertise, so many users don't even know it exists.
1. Wake up the bracelet screen by touching the touch button or raising your hand (if the Wake Up function is enabled).
2. Flick the screen to the right until the More menu appears (three-dot icon).
3. Select Settings (cogs) β System β Turn off.
4. Confirm the action by holding the touch button for 3 seconds.
If the item "Switch off" is missing, then your firmware is outdated. Update the bracelet through the Mi Fitness application (Device Profile β Software Update).
Check the firmware version in Mi Fitness|Reset the bracelet (hold the button) 10 seconds)|Reset the settings to factory|Update the Mi Fitness app on Google Play/App Store-->
β οΈ Warning: Some firmware versions have the "Stop" option hidden behind a long hold on the "Back" button. Try holding the touch area for 5-7 seconds, a hidden menu should appear.
Fast reboot (soft restet)
If the Xiaomi Smart Band 8 bracelet is getting stuck or does not respond to touch, donβt be in a hurry to turn it off forcibly.First try a soft reboot β this saves all data and settings, but removes temporary glitches.
For this:
- Hold the touch button for 10-15 seconds until the screen goes out.
- Wait 5 seconds β the bracelet will automatically reset.
- After the Mi logo appears, release the button.
This method works in 90% of freezes, including synchronization problems, time display errors, or after an update, and if the software reset doesn't work, move on to the following.
Once a week | Once a month | Only after updates | Never reboot-->
3. Forced shutdown (hard reset)
When the bracelet is completely unresponsive to touch, and the screen is either frozen or shows artifacts, all that remains is a forced shutdown, a method that does not store volatile data (such as unsaved workouts), but does not reset settings.
Instructions:
- Connect the bracelet to the charger (even if the battery is not discharged).
- Hold the touch button for 20 seconds until the screen goes out.
- Unplug the cable and wait 30 seconds before turning on.
If the bracelet doesn't turn on after that, the battery may have run out. Connect it to charging for 1-2 hours, then try holding the 5 seconds button.
What if the bracelet does not respond to hard reset?
4.Switch off via Mi Fitness app
The official Mi Fitness app (formerly Mi Fit) doesn't have a direct shutdown function, but allows you to initiate a reset or reset.
1. Open Mi Fitness and go to your Smart Band 8 profile.
2. Select Device Settings β Additional β Reboot the device.
3. Confirm the action - the bracelet will turn off and turn on automatically in 10-15 seconds.
If this item is missing, upgrade to the latest version of the app. In older versions, the feature may be called Setting Reset, but it completely cleans the data, so use it only as a last resort.
| Method | Is the data preserved? | Implementation time | When to use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Through the wristband menu | β Yes. | 5-10 seconds | Planned shutdown |
| Soft-reset (10 sec) | β Yes. | 15-20 sec. | Screen getting stuck |
| Hard Reset (20 sec) | β No (temporary data) | 30 seconds. | Total failure of reaction |
| Through Mi Fitness. | β Yes. | 10-15 sec. | Remote reboot |

5. Complete reset to factory settings
This method removes all data from the bracelet, including:
- π Training and sleep statistics
- βοΈ Individual settings (alarm clocks, notifications)
- π Link to Mi Account Account
Use it only if other methods have failed or you are passing the bracelet to another person.
- Go to the bracelet menu: Settings β System β Resetting.
- Confirm the action by holding the touch button for 5 seconds.
- After the reboot, the bracelet will be like a new one β you will need to re-tether in Mi Fitness.
β οΈ Note: Some firmwares start the reset by holding the 15-second button with the charger connected. If the standard method didn't work, try this option.
π‘
Before resetting, export data from Mi Fitness: go to Profile β Settings β Export data. This will save the activity history to the CSV file, which can be downloaded later.
6. Why can't the bracelet turn off?
If Xiaomi Smart Band 8 ignores all attempts to shut down, the reasons may be as follows:
- π Deep battery discharge β the bracelet does not respond until you connect to the charge for 10-15 minutes.
- π Firmware failure, especially after interrupted updates. Solution: reset to factory settings.
- π§ Moisture intake β even if the bracelet is waterproof (Standard 5) ATM), The button contacts can oxidize. Dry it for 24 hours in rice or silica gel.
- π Touch button malfunction - check the response to touch on other menus. If it doesn't work, contact the service.
If the problem occurs after a fall or impact, do not try to disassemble the bracelet yourself. the case of the Smart Band 8 is sealed, and when you open it, you risk damaging the display or battery.

If the bracelet is not switched off and does not respond to charging, check the cable and power supply. Use only the original charger with an output of 5V/0.5A or 1A (more powerful adapters can damage the power controller).
