The Xiaomi Mi Band 6 has become one of the most popular fitness trackers thanks to its combination of affordable prices, stylish design and wide functionality. However, even such a simple device can raise questions for a beginner: how to turn it on, charge, connect it to the phone and customize it for your needs. In this article, we will analyze the activation process from scratch β from unpacking to first synchronization of data.
Itβs important to understand that the Mi Band 6 doesnβt have a physical power button, so many users get lost seeing only the touch screen.Weβll show you how to avoid typical bugs, such as why the bracelet might not respond to touch after charging or how to properly install the Mi Fitness app (formerly Mi Fit) so you donβt run into sync issues.
Preparing for the first turn on: what to do before activation
Before you start turning on the bracelet, make sure you have everything you need.
- π¦ The bracelet itself is in protective film.
- π Magnetic connector charging cable (such as "pincap")
- π Short instructions in several languages (Russian is usually present)
- π Additional strap (in some trim levels)
If you don't have at least one of these items, you should check the integrity of the package or contact the seller. Also, prepare a smartphone with a supported version of Android 5.0+ or iOS 10.0+ and free space to install the app. Note: iPhone will need to turn on Bluetooth and allow notifications for the Mi Fitness app.
If you are upgrading from a previous model (Mi Band 5 or older), note that the pairing process may differ. For example, the Mi Band 6 changed the algorithm for finding the device via Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), so the old instructions may not work. Also check if your phone has data from the previous bracelet - it is better to delete it through the application settings to avoid conflicts.
Charging the bracelet: how to connect correctly and how much to wait
The first thing you need to do with the new Mi Band 6 is to charge it, and even though the bracelet may already have a small charge from the factory, it's better to bring the battery to 100% before first turning on.
- Remove the bracelet capsule from the strap by pulling it towards the screen (donβt make excessive efforts!).
- Bring the magnetic connector of the charging cable to the contacts on the back of the capsule - it should "stick" automatically.
- Connect. USB-cable-connector (5V/1A) computer.
The charge indicator should appear on the bracelet screen, a battery icon with an animation of filling.
- β‘ Check the density of the magnetic connector (sometimes a light press helps)
- π Try another one. USB-port
- π Turn the capsule over - the contacts must match the connector

The full charge time is about 2 hours. Do not leave the bracelet on charging for longer than 3 hours - this can reduce battery life. Also avoid using unoriginal cables: they can damage contacts or cause overheating. If the bracelet does not charge at all, try cleaning the contacts with a soft dry cloth (no alcohol!).
β οΈ Note: Do not use Mi Band 6 adapters with an output current greater than 1A (e.g. from tablets) to charge.
First turn on: screen activation and language selection
After charging, you can start turning on the bracelet. Unlike smartphones, there is no power button, the screen activates automatically when you first connect to charging or after you press the sensor.
- Make sure the charging is successful (the indicator should show 100%).
- Touch the bracelet screen with one finger and hold for 2-3 seconds.
- If the screen is not turned on, connect the bracelet to charge for 10-15 minutes - sometimes you need to "wake up" the controller.
When you first turn on, you'll see a welcome screen with the Mi logo, and then the bracelet will suggest you choose the interface language.
- π Swipe the list of languages up/down (not left-right!).
- π Find English (or English if you prefer English).
- π Click on the screen to confirm the selection.
If the list does not include Russian, it means that the bracelet has outdated firmware, in which case skip this step (select English) and update the firmware through the app after pairing with your smartphone. Also note that some regional versions of the Mi Band 6 (for example, for China) may not have Russian even after the update - this is a manufacturer's restriction.

If the bracelet doesnβt respond to touch, try resetting it to factory settings: plug it into charging and hold the screen for 10 seconds until the Mi logo appears.

After the update, check the firmware version in the bracelet settings (About device β firmware version). Current version at 2026 is 1.0.6.54 or higher. If the update doesn't appear, try:
- Restart the Mi Fitness app.

- Wait 1-2 days β sometimes updates roll out in stages.
Solving typical problems after inclusion
Even after you set it up properly, users sometimes have problems, and here are the most common problems and solutions.
| Problem. | Reason. | Decision |
|---|---|---|

- Hold the screen pressed for 15-20 seconds until the Mi logo appears.
- After the reboot, repeat pairing with the smartphone.
β οΈ Note: If the bracelet does not react to the reboot and does not charge, this may indicate a hardware malfunction. In this case, contact the Xiaomi service center - self-repair does not warranty.
