Why itβs important to sync Mi Band 2 with your phone
The 2016 Xiaomi Mi Band 2 fitness bracelet is still popular with users due to its simplicity, reliability and low price, but many people face difficulties in first setting up the device β especially when it comes to syncing with a smartphone. Without the right connection, you will not be able to receive notifications, track steps or monitor your heart rate.
In this article, we will not only discuss the basic steps of pairing a wristband with a phone, but also look at common errors (for example, when the device is not detected or permanently breaks the connection).
Important: The instruction is relevant for Android 6.0+ and iOS 10+ devices, but some steps may differ depending on the version of the Mi Fit app (now called Zepp Life in some regions).
What you need to synchronize
Before you start connecting, make sure you have everything you need:
- π± Smartphone on Android or iOS with Bluetooth 4.0 and higher.
- π Xiaomi Mi Band 2 with a battery charge of at least 20% (at low charge, the bracelet may not be turned on).
- π² Official Mi Fit app (or Zepp Life β depending on the region).
- π Stable Internet connection (for downloading firmware and authorization of the account).
If you have a used bracelet, we recommend resetting it to factory settings before connecting, and to do this, press the touch button on the Mi Band 2 for 10-15 seconds until you feel the vibration and see the indicator flashing, which ensures that the device is not tied to the previous owner.
How to connect Mi Band 2 to your phone
The synchronization process takes no more than 5-7 minutes, if you follow a clear algorithm.
- Install the Mi Fit app: π€ For Android: Download from Google Play. π For iOS: Download from the App Store.
Note: If your app is called Zepp Life in your region, use it β the functionality is identical.
Register or sign in to your Xiaomi account
Without an account, synchronization of data (steps, sleep, pulse) will not work. If you already have a Mi Account account (for example, for a Xiaomi smartphone), use it.
Turn on Bluetooth on your phone

Add the bracelet in the app
Open Mi Fit, click Profile β Add Device β Bracelet β Mi Smart Band 2. Follow the on-screen prompts.
Confirm the conjugation
The code will appear on the phone screen, compare it to the one on the bracelet (short flashing of the indicator). If the codes match, click Confirm.
Bracelet charge >20%|Bluetooth is on on the phone|Mi Fit application installed|Xiaomi account created/authorized|The bracelet is dropped (if b/w)-->
Once successfully connected, the bracelet vibrates and its status will appear in the app. If this does not happen, go to the Troubleshooting section.
Configure notifications and basic functions
By default, the Mi Band 2 can only show the time, steps and pulse, and to activate notifications about calls, SMS and instant messengers, you need to:
- Open Mi Fit β Select your bracelet β Notifications.
- Enable the switch Incoming calls and messages.
- In the Applications section, select messengers (WhatsApp, Telegram, etc.), notifications from which you want to see.
- Set up alarm clocks and inactivity reminders (good for office workers).
Note: on the Mi Band 2, notifications are displayed as vibration and flashing indicator (color depends on the type of notification).
π‘
If notifications donβt come, check the permissions for Mi Fit in the phone settings: Settings β Apps β Mi Fit β Notifications should be enabled.
Also in the bracelet settings can be:
- π Change the order of display of screens (steps / pulse / time).
- π Activate the "Do Not Disturb" mode at night.
- πββοΈ Turn on sleep tracking and a smart alarm clock (waking up in the light sleep phase).
Firmware update: whether and how to do
Xiaomi periodically releases firmware updates for the Mi Band 2, which fix synchronization errors, improve sensor accuracy and add new features.
- Open Mi Fit β Select a bracelet β Update firmware.
- If a new version is available, click Update and wait until it is completed (the bracelet will reboot).
Important: don't interrupt the upgrade process or turn off Bluetooth. If the firmware goes off, the bracelet may stop turning on - you will need manual recovery via PC.
| Firmware version | Release dates | Major changes |
|---|---|---|
| 1.0.1.14 | 2017. | Bugs with step counting were fixed, synchronization improved. |
| 1.0.2.12 | 2018. | Added notification support for iOS, optimized battery consumption. |
| 1.0.3.8 | 2019. | Improved accuracy of the pulse sensor, corrected errors with Bluetooth. |
If the update is hanging:
β οΈ Warning: If the bracelet does not react after the update (does not vibrate, does not turn on), try to reset it to factory settings (press the button for 15 seconds). If this does not help, connect to charging for 1-2 hours - sometimes the firmware "pumps" when recharging.
Typical problems and their solutions
Even after setting up correctly, Mi Band 2 users are faced with common errors.
1.The phone doesn't find the bracelet
- πΉ Make sure the Mi Band 2 is charged (the indicator should flash when connected to the charger).
- πΉ Reboot Bluetooth on your phone (turn off/on in settings).
- πΉ Remove the bracelet from the list of conjugate devices in Bluetooth settings and reconnect.
- πΉ Check if the antivirus or power saving mode is blocking Mi Fit.
2. the bracelet is connected, but the data is not synchronized
- π Restart the Mi Fit app and update the data manually (pull the screen down).
- π± Check if the sync is enabled in the background for Mi Fit (phone settings) β Annexes β Mi Fit β Battery β Background activity).
- π Make sure your phone is connected to the internet (the data is uploaded to Xiaomi servers).
3.The bracelet discharges quickly
If the Mi Band 2 holds a charge for less than 3-4 days:
- π Turn off continuous pulse tracking (bracelet profile) β Monitoring of heart rate β Automobile β Select Off or Every 30 Minutes).
- π΄ Reduce the number of notifications (leave only important ones).
- π Update the bracelet firmware to the latest version.
What to do if the bracelet does not vibrate?
How to Reset Mi Band 2 to Factory Settings
Reset is required in three cases:
- You bought a used bracelet and it's tied to someone else's account.
- The device is glitchy (not synchronized, not updated).
- You want to sell the bracelet and delete your data.
For discharge:
- Unplug the bracelet from your phone in the Mi Fit app (Device Profile β Untie).
- Press the touch button on the Mi Band 2 for 10-15 seconds until you feel three vibrations and see the indicator flashing.
- Reconnect the bracelet as if it were first activated.
β οΈ Warning: After resetting, all data on the bracelet (steps, sleep, settings) will be deleted. If it is not synchronized with Mi Fit, it cannot be restored.
Compatibility of Mi Band 2 with modern smartphones
Despite its age, the Mi Band 2 works with most modern smartphones, but there are nuances:
- π± Android 10+: There may be problems with background synchronization due to system limitations. Solution: add Mi Fit to battery optimization exceptions.
- π iOS 15+: Notifications may be delayed. Check your privacy settings β Bluetooth.
- π Smartphones without Google Services (Huawei, some Xiaomi for China): Use alternative versions of Mi Fit (e.g. from APKPure).
If your phone doesnβt see the bracelet at all, try:
- Install an older version of Mi Fit (e.g. 4.6.0, which is more stable with Mi Band 2).
- Use third-party apps like Notify & Fitness for Mi Band (available on Google Play).

The Mi Band 2 is officially supported in the Mi Fit until now, but it may be necessary to turn off battery optimization for the app to work steadily on new smartphones.
