The Xiaomi Mi Band 3 fitness bracelet remains a popular gadget even years after its release, thanks to its simplicity, reliability and useful features, including smart alarm clocks. However, many users face difficulties in the first setup: the app does not see the device, the alarm clock does not work in time, the vibration is too weak. In this article, we will discuss all the ways to set the alarm on the Mi Band 3, including hidden settings, avoiding typical errors and tips for optimizing wake-up.
It's important to understand that the Mi Band 3 doesn't support creating alarm clocks directly from the wristband screen -- you'll have to do the whole setup via your smartphone, and you have a choice between the official Mi Fit app (old but stable) or the new Zepp Life (with advanced features but sometimes glitchy), and we've tested both and identified key differences that affect alarm clocks.
If youβve just bought a bracelet or switched from another model (e.g. Mi Band 2 or 4), note that the alarm clock synchronization algorithm on the Mi Band 3 has its own peculiarities. For example, the device can βforgetβ settings after updating the firmware or resetting to factory settings. To avoid such situations, we have compiled a training checklist and a list of frequent errors with solutions.
1. Preparation of the bracelet for setting alarm clocks
Before setting alarms, make sure your Xiaomi Mi Band 3 is ready to go.Missing these steps often results in sync failures or no vibration.
Download and install the Mi Fit or Zepp Life app (links below)
Connect the bracelet to your smartphone via Bluetooth (distance not more than 10 meters)
Update your Mi Band 3 firmware to the latest version (check in Device Profile β Software Update)
Enable notifications for the app in your phone settings (Settings β Apps β Mi Fit/Zepp Life β Notifications)
Charge the bracelet to at least 20% (at low charge, alarm clocks may not work)-->
Pay special attention to app permissions. On Android 10+ and iOS 14+, systems block background activity of programs, which can interfere with the synchronization of alarm clocks.
- Go to Settings. β Annexes β Mi Fit/Zepp Life.
- Select Permissions and enable access to calendar, contacts (for smart alarms), geodata.
- Activate AutoRun option (on Xiaomi, Huawei, Samsung path may be different).
On the iPhone, check out:
- π± Settings β Confidentiality β Geolocation services β Zepp Life/Mi Fit β Choose When Using.
- π Settings β Notifications β Zepp Life/Mi Fit β Turn on the Sounds and Badges.
- π Settings β Mainstream β Update of the PO β Update iOS to the current version (on versions below 13.5, sync failures are possible).

If the bracelet is not synced with your phone, try "forgetting the device" in your smartphone's Bluetooth settings, then reconnect it through the app, which solves 70% of the connection problems.
2. Method 1: Set the alarm clock through Mi Fit
Mi Fit is the official Xiaomi app that supports all Mi Band models, including the third version. The interface is simpler than Zepp Life, but the functionality of alarm clocks is limited. For example, you can not set a repeating alarm clock for specific days of the week (only daily or single).
To set an alarm clock:
- Open Mi Fit and select your Mi Band 3 from the device list.
- Go to the Alarms section (bell icon in the bottom menu).
- Click Add an alarm and set:
Save the settings and wait for the synchronization (the cloud icon in the upper right corner should stop spinning).
One important thing is that if you choose a smart alarm clock, the wristband will analyze the sleep phases 7 days before it goes off, which means that the first time it may not work exactly in time, and the smart alarm clock doesn't work if you sleep less than 4 hours in a row, in which case the normal vibration is triggered.

Method 3: Configure via Zepp Life (Extended Features)
Zepp Life (formerly Amazfit) is a more modern app that supports Mi Band 3, but with some limitations, and it has alarm groups, vibration settings, and calendar integration, but the interface can seem overloaded, and synchronization can sometimes take up to 2 minutes.
Step-by-step:
- Open Zepp Life and select Mi Band 3 from the device list.
- Go to Profile. β Alarm clocks.
- Click + Add and fill in the parameters:

Mi Fit
The advantage of Zepp Life is that you can create multiple alarm profiles, such as one for everyday life (vibration 20 seconds), another for weekends (vibration 10 seconds + calendar connection), but be careful: if you activate alarms in Mi Fit and Zepp Life at the same time, the bracelet may work twice or not at all due to a conflict of settings.
How to remove duplicate alarm clocks?
Method 3: Quick alarm through the bracelet menu (limited functionality)
While the Xiaomi Mi Band 3 doesnβt allow you to create alarm clocks directly on the screen, it has a hidden βRapid Alarmβ feature β a one-time reminder after 1-12 hours. This is convenient if you need to wake up in a few hours, but is not suitable for regular use.
How to activate:
- Scroll down the bracelet screen to the Other (three-dot icon).
- Select an alarm clock (bell icon).
- Set the response time in 1 hour increments (e.g., βafter 3 hoursβ).
- Confirm the choice by pressing the touch button.
If you wake up often at night, turn on sleep monitoring in your bracelet settings to help your smart alarm clock better determine sleep phases.
- In Mi Fit: Profile β Sleep settings β Sleep monitoring β Enable.
- In Zepp Life: Profile β Sleep β Auto Tracking β On.
Another life hack: if you sleep soundly, set up a double alarm clock β the first 10 minutes before the main one (with a short vibration), the second at the right time (with a long vibration) β to help you wake up smoothly.
