Xiaomi Mi True Wireless headphones (including Basic 2, SE, TWS 2 and more) have become a popular choice thanks to a combination of sound quality, compactness and affordable price. However, even with such simple devices, users often have questions: how to make the first connection, what to do if the headphones are not defined by the phone, or how to switch between devices.
We will look at not only the standard Bluetooth pairing procedure, but also alternative methods (for example, through the Mi Home app), as well as recommendations for optimizing the work of the headphones. Particular attention will be paid to compatibility with iPhones and Android 13+ devices, where specific errors can occur due to the limitations of operating systems. If you just unpacked your headphones or encountered difficulties when reconnecting, read on.
Preparing headphones for the first connection
Before you start pairing, make sure that the Xiaomi Mi True Wireless headphones are ready to go. Start by checking the charge: the indicator on the case case should burn white or green (depending on the model) when the lid is opened. If the indicator is red or not at all, connect the case to the power source for 15-20 minutes.
The important thing is that the headphones must be inside the case during the first connection, and many users try to turn them on separately, which causes crashes.
- π Case charged (minimum 20% for stable operation).
- π± Bluetooth is on on the phone (check the Quick Settings Panel).
- π Headphones have not previously been paired with another device (if yes, reset, see section below).
If you removed the headphones from the case and they don't respond to the presses, try to return them back and close the cover for 10 seconds. This will reset the current state and prepare the device for a new connection. For Mi True Wireless 2 and later, the automatic activation feature when you remove from the case is also available - check it in the Bluetooth settings after pairing.
Step-by-step: connecting to an Android smartphone
The process of pairing with Android devices (including Xiaomi, Samsung, Realme and others) takes no more than a minute, if you follow the algorithm:
- Open the case cover (the headphones should stay inside) The indicator on the case will flash white/blue, which means that the device is ready to search.
- On your phone, go to Settings β Connections β Bluetooth (the path may differ depending on the shell).
- Turn on Bluetooth and wait for a device called Mi True Wireless (or Mi TWS for some models) to appear on the list.
- Confirm pairing if you have a request. Some phones may need input. PIN-code - default is 0000.
Once you've successfully connected, the indicator on the case will stop flashing and will light up with a constant light, and now you can remove the headphones, they will automatically connect to the phone, and if the sound is only going to one earphone, return both to the case and repeat the extraction.
βοΈ Checking a successful connection
For Mi True Wireless 2 Basic and later, dual connectivity (to phone and laptop at the same time) is available. To activate it, after the first pairing, press the button on the case for 5 seconds, the headphones will go into multipoint mode.
Interface with iPhone (iOS): features and nuances
Connecting Xiaomi Mi True Wireless to an iPhone or iPad is almost the same as Android, but there are a few key points: first, the Mi Home app does not support iOS β all settings will have to be done through the standard menu of the system. Second, the iPhone may not have an indicator of the level of charge of the headphones in the status bar (this is a limitation of Apple, not a problem with headphones).
Connection algorithm:
- Open the case cover (earphones inside!). On your iPhone, go to Settings β Bluetooth.
- In the list, find Mi True Wireless and tap it. If the device doesn't show, close it and reopen the case lid.
- Wait for the sign to appear Connected. Some iPhone models may require confirmation of the connection to the "audio device".
Once connected, check the microphone: go to Settings β Bluetooth, tap the i icon next to the headphones and select Use for calls. If the option is not available, upgrade iOS to the latest version.
β οΈ Note: On iPhone, Xiaomi Mi True Wireless headphones can automatically switch to mono mode (sound only in one headphone) when listening to music through some apps (for example, YouTube). To fix this, temporarily turn off Bluetooth and reconnect the headphones.
Problem Solving: Headphones are not connected or defined
If the Xiaomi Mi True Wireless doesnβt show up in the list of devices or connect with errors, the reasons can be different, from a dead battery to software failures.
- π Make sure the case is charged (plug in the charge for 10 minutes and try again).
- π΅ Reboot your phone β sometimes a Bluetooth crash is solved by a simple reboot.
- π Reset your headphones: press the button on the case for 10-15 seconds until the indicator starts flashing red and white alternately.
- π± Remove the headphones from the list of conjugate devices on your phone and try to connect again.
If the headphones are plugged in but the sound is interrupted or distorted, the problem may be in the Bluetooth codec. On Android, check the developer's settings:
- Activate the developer mode (7 times tap the build number in Settings β About phone).
- Back to Settings β System system β For developers.
- Find the Bluetooth Codec option and select SBC (the most stable, though not the best quality).
| Problem. | Possible cause | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| Headphones are undetectable | Case or headphones discharged | Charge the case for 15-20 minutes, then reconnect. |
| The sound is only in one headphone. | Failure of synchronization between headphones | Return both headphones to the case, close the lid for 10 seconds, then remove. |
| Permanent communication breakdowns | Interference from other devices or weak Bluetooth signal | Move your phone closer to your headphones, turn off other Bluetooth devices |
| The microphone is not working. | iPhone not selected for use in calls | Go to Bluetooth settings, tap on i next to the headphones and activate the option |

If the headphones are plugged in but discharge quickly, try turning off the automatic device search feature in the Bluetooth settings on the phone, which will reduce the background power consumption.
Configure via the Mi Home app: additional features
The Mi Home app (available for Android and iOS) lets you not only connect your headphones, but also customize them to your preferences.
- π΅ Change the equalizer (preset profiles or manual settings).
- π Activate Transparency Mode (Permission of External Sounds).
- π View the charge level of each headphone and case separately.
- π Update the headphone firmware (if a new version is available).
To connect headphones through Mi Home:
- Install the app from the App Store or Google Play.
- Sign up or sign in to your Xiaomi account.
- Click Add Device β Select Audio β Mi True Wireless category.
- Follow the instructions on the screen (usually you need to confirm your connection via Bluetooth).
Note that some features (such as firmware updates) may only be available for the latest models (Mi True Wireless 2 and later), and if there is no option for your model in the app, it is not supported by the manufacturer.
What if Mi Home doesnβt find the headphones?
How to switch between devices (phone, laptop, tablet)
Xiaomi Mi True Wireless supports connecting to two devices at the same time (multipoint function), but only in the latest models.
If the headphones are already paired with two devices (like a phone and a laptop), they will automatically switch when playing audio, for example, if you listen to music on your phone and then start playing video on your laptop, the headphones will reconnect to it.
For manual switching:
- Turn off Bluetooth on your current device (such as your phone).
- Activate Bluetooth on the second device and wait for the automatic connection.
- If the connection does not occur, remove the headphones from the list of devices on the second gadget and pair again.
For models without multipoint support (such as Mi True Wireless Basic), you will have to manually disconnect the headphones from one device and connect to another, and to speed up the process, you can use a Bluetooth widget on the home screen of the smartphone.
β οΈ Attention: When switching between devices of different brands (for example, iPhone and Windows laptop) often, sync failures may occur, in which case, resetting the headphones (press the button on the case for 10 seconds) and re-pairing with both devices will help.
Update firmware and reset to factory settings
The manufacturer periodically releases firmware updates for Xiaomi Mi True Wireless, which improve communication stability, sound quality and add new features.
- π± Through the Mi Home app (if available for your model).
- π₯οΈ Through PC using the proprietary utility Xiaomi Bluetooth Firmware Updater (for experienced users).
To update via Mi Home:
- Connect the headphones to the phone through the app.
- Go to the device management section and check for updates.
- If you have an update, follow the instructions on the screen. Do not interrupt the process until the indicator on the case stops flashing.
If the headphones started to work unstable after the upgrade or you want to sell them, perform a factory reset:
- Put both headphones in the case and close the lid.
- Press the button on the case for 15-20 seconds until the indicator starts flashing red and white.
- Open the lid β the headphones will be reset and ready for a new connection.

Resetting the headphones removes all the conjugated devices from memory, and after this procedure, you have to reconnect the headphones to all the gadgets.
