Why sync the Mi Band with your phone?
The Xiaomi Mi Band fitness bracelet is one of the most popular gadgets for tracking activity, sleep and health. But without proper synchronization with a smartphone, it turns into a regular watch with a pedometer. Connecting to a phone reveals the full functionality of the device: notifications about calls, messages from messengers, music control, detailed training statistics and even payment for purchases (in new models).
The connection process seems simple, but many users face errors: the bracelet is not on the list of devices, the application does not see the gadget, or the synchronization is constantly broken. In this article, we will analyze all the stages of connection from installing the application to setting up notifications, and also consider the unique features of the Mi Band 8 Pro, which are not in previous versions (for example, independent work from the phone thanks to built-in GPS).
The manual is suitable for all Mi Band models (starting with version 3) and is relevant for Android 8.0+ and iOS 12.0+. If you have an older version of the OS, some features may be limited.
Step 1: Prepare the bracelet and phone to connect
Before syncing, make sure both devices are ready to go. Let's start with the Mi Band:
- π Charge the bracelet to at least 50% (at low charge, the connection may be interrupted).
- π± Turn on Bluetooth on your smartphone and make sure it sees other devices (check in settings).
- π Reset the bracelet if it has been used before: Press the touch button 10 seconds before the Mi logo appears.
- π² Remove old versions of Mi Fit or Zepp Life apps (if installed) β they may conflict with the new version.
Pay special attention to the permissions on the smartphone:
- π Geolocation: must be enabled (needed for accurate jogging tracking).
- π Storage: The Mi Fitness app will request access to save training data.
- π Notifications: Allow alerts to be displayed on top of other applications (to display incoming calls).
β οΈ Warning: If you are using the Xiaomi Mi Band 8 Pro or Mi Band 7 Pro, update the bracelet firmware via the original app before connecting. New models use the BLE 5.2 protocol, which may not be supported by smartphones older than 2018.
Step 2: Install the official Mi Fitness app
Since 2023, Xiaomi has replaced Mi Fit with Mi Fitness (formerly known as Zepp Life), a single platform for all wearables of the brand.
- π€ For Android: Google Play (requires version 8.0 and higher).
- π For iOS: App Store (iPhone 6s and later).
After installation:
- Open the app and select the language (Russian is available).
- Accept the user agreement and allow access to notifications.
- Register through Xiaomi Account, Google, Apple ID or phone number.
- In the main menu, click Profile β Add device β Bracelet.
β οΈ Warning: Do not use third-party apps like Notify & Fitness or Mi Band Master to set up initially, which can block official sync and cause loss of training data.
π‘
If the app doesn't find the bracelet, try turning off Bluetooth, restart the phone and turn it on again, sometimes changing the region in your smartphone settings to China (temporarily).
Step 3: Finding and pairing the bracelet with the phone
Now, to the most critical stage, which is the interface of devices, follow the instructions.
- In the Mi Fitness app, click Add Device and select your Mi Band model.
- The bracelet should flash white light (if not, press the touch button until vibration appears).
- Select your Mi Band (the name will be in Mi Band format XXXX, where XXXX is the last digit of the MAC- address).
- Confirm the pairing on both devices: on the bracelet, touch the tick, on the phone click Connect.
If the bracelet is not listed:
| Problem. | Reason. | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| The bracelet doesn't blink. | Battery discharged or the software got stuck | Put on charging for 30 minutes or reset settings (clamb the 20 seconds button) |
| The phone doesn't see the device. | Bluetooth is working in energy saving mode | Turn off Adaptive Bluetooth mode in your phone settings |
| The "failed to connect" error | Conflict with another application (e.g. Google Fit) | Close all background applications and try again |
| The bracelet is connected, but the data is not synchronized | Outdated firmware | Update the bracelet software through Profile β My devices β Update |

Step 4: Set up the core functions after connecting
After successful pairing, we will configure the key parameters:
1. Notifications
To receive alerts about calls and messages:
- In the app, go to Profile β Your device β Notifications.
- Turn on the Call Notification and Notifications from the apps switch.
- Select the apps you want to see alerts from (such as WhatsApp, Telegram, Gmail).
- Set up the display style: vibration only, text + vibration or full text.
2. Tracking sleep and activity
For accurate monitoring:
- π Enable Auto-Sleep Tracking in the bracelet settings (recommended mode: Sensitive).
- π Select Activity Goals: Steps, calories, activity time (standard 10,000 steps per day).
- β±οΈ Set up inactivity reminders (interval: 45-90 minutes).
3. Personal data
Without the right user parameters, the training data will be inaccurate:
- Enter height, weight, gender and date of birth in the profile.
- Specify the Dominant Hand (the one you wear the bracelet on) β this affects the accuracy of the pulse measurement.
- Choose Activity Level: Sedentary, Moderate, or Active.
How to reset the bracelet to factory settings?
Step 5: Solving common connection problems
Even after successful synchronization, failures can occur, and let's look at the typical cases and how to fix them:
1. The bracelet is connected, but does not synchronize the data
Causes and solutions:
- π΅ Weak Bluetooth signal: Bring the phone closer to the bracelet (maximum distance is 10 meters without obstacles).
- π Conflict with other devices: disconnect from the phone other wearable gadgets (earphones, smart watches).
- π₯ App cache: Clear the Mi Fitness cache in your phone settings (Settings β Apps β Mi Fitness β Storage β Clear the cache).
2.The bracelet discharges quickly after connection
If the battery is running out in 1-2 days:
- π Turn off the Continuous Heart Rate Monitoring (only during exercise).
- πΆ Reduce the data synchronization frequency to 1 time every 30 minutes.
- π Check the authenticity of the bracelet: counterfeits often have weak batteries (the original holds a charge for 10β14 days).
3. notifications are delayed or not received
The problem is typical for Android due to battery optimization:
- β‘ Add Mi Fitness to the Optimization Exceptions list (Settings β Battery β Battery Optimization β All Apps β Mi Fitness β No Limits).
- π Enable AutoRun for the application (in your phone settings or via the security menu MIUI).
- π± Reboot your phone β sometimes resetting network settings (Settings β System β Reset β Reset Wi-Fi, mobile network and Bluetooth) helps.
π‘
If the Mi Band 8 Pro bracelet does not connect to the iPhone, check the iOS version - it requires at least 14.0. Also make sure that the Bluetooth settings turn on the Detect for all devices mode.
Step 6: Additional chips and hidden features
After the basic setup, you can activate the hidden Mi Band features that many people donβt know about:
1. Music management
You can use the bracelet.
- π΅ Switch tracks (swipe left/right on the bracelet screen).
- π Adjust volume (in the Mi Band 7/8 Pro via the menu on the bracelet).
- π§ Manage playback in Spotify, YouTube Music or Apple Music (set up in Mi Fitness β Music).
2. Quick responses to messages (Android only)
On Mi Band 6 and later, you can send template responses:
- In the app, go to Notifications β Quick answers.
- Add up to 10 templates (e.g., βIβll call you later,β βIβm busy right nowβ).
- When you receive a message on the bracelet, swipe up and select the answer.
3.Do not disturb mode
Disables all notifications and vibrations:
- π Activated automatically on schedule (e.g. 23:00 to 7:00).
- π Or manually: Press the bracelet screen for 2 seconds and select the bell icon.
4. Phone search
If you lose your smartphone:
- π± On the bracelet, swipe down and click on the phone search icon.
- The phone will give a loud signal (even if there is a silent mode).
Additional features are available for the Mi Band 8 Pro:
- π Autonomous GPS: Tracking a route without a phone (useful for running).
- π³ NFC for payment (works with Mi Pay in China or Google Pay in some regions).
- πΈ Camera control: You can take photos from your smartphone by tapping the bracelet screen.
Step 7: Update the bracelet firmware
Regular updates improve stability and add new features to update firmware:
- Connect the bracelet to charging and make sure the charge is not below 50%.
- Open Mi Fitness and go to Profile β Your Device β Firmware Update.
- If a new version is available, click Update.
- Do not turn off Bluetooth or close the app until the process is complete (it will take 5-10 minutes).
After the update:
- The bracelet will reset automatically.
- Check the firmware version in Bracelet Settings β About the device.
- If necessary, repeat the setting of notifications (sometimes reset after the update).
β οΈ Warning: If the upgrade fails (e.g., the battery dies), the bracelet may stop turning on. In this case, plug it into charging for 1 hour, which usually restores performance. If it doesn't work, contact the service center.
