Why Honor 9A and Xiaomi are not an obvious pair
The Honor 9A and Xiaomi Mi Band fitness bracelets are different ecosystems: the former runs on EMUI (Huawei firmware), and the latter are developed under MIUI. This creates the illusion of incompatibility, although in practice both devices interact perfectly through the official Mi Fitness app (formerly Mi Fit), the main obstacle is the lack of pre-installed Google services on some versions of the Honor 9A, which can block the download of the application from the Play Market.
In this article, we will discuss not only the standard connection procedure, but also workarounds for cases where:
- ๐ฑ Mi Fitness app not installed due to Huawei Mobile Services restrictions (HMS)
- ๐ The bracelet is not found when searching via Bluetooth.
- โ ๏ธ Synchronization is interrupted after updating the phone firmware
- ๐ Bracelet battery charge drops too quickly after plugging in
We will pay special attention to the Mi Band 4/5/6/7 models, as they are the most popular among users. If you have an older version (for example, Mi Band 3), some features may not be available, but the basic synchronization will remain identical.
Step 1: Checking the compatibility of the bracelet and phone
Before you start connecting, make sure your Honor 9A meets the minimum requirements:
| Parameter | Mi Band 4/5 | Mi Band 6/7 |
|---|---|---|
| Android version | 5.0 and higher | 6.0 and higher |
| Bluetooth | 4.0 LE | 5.0 LE |
| Google services | Mandatory. | Mandatory. |
| Free memory | 100MB | 150 MB |
Honor 9A It was released with Android 10 (EMUI 10.1) and supports Bluetooth 5.0, so there are no technical limitations. HMS Core instead of Google Services may require manual installation APK-file.
โ ๏ธ Attention: If your Honor 9A If you've purchased it in China or you've got firmware without Google, the standard way to install it through the Play Market won't work.
Also check the bracelet firmware version.
- Charge the bracelet to 100%.
- Press the touch button to turn on the screen.
- Scroll through the menu to Settings โ About Phone (the Mi Band 6/7 path may be different).
Step 2: Installation of the Mi Fitness app
The official Xiaomi bracelet management app is called Mi Fitness (formerly Mi Fit).
- ๐ Play Market โ if there are Google services on your phone.
- ๐ฅ Xiaomi official website โ if Play Market is not available.
- ๐ฆ Through APK-File - for firmware without Google (see below).
Instructions for standard installation:
- Open the Play Market on Honor 9A.
Alternative installation without Google (HMS Core)
Important: Mi Fitness must be at least 5.6.0 to work properly with Mi Band 6/7. Older versions of the app may not support new bracelet features.
Step 3: Connecting the bracelet to the phone
After installing the application, proceed to synchronization:
โ๏ธ Preparation for connection
- Turn on Bluetooth on Honor 9A (please scroll down the notification bar or go to Settings โ Wireless Networks).
- Launch Mi Fitness and click Profile โ Add the device.
- Select your bracelet model from the list (e.g. Mi Smart Band 6).
- Press Connect and wait for the phone to find the bracelet. It can take up to 30 seconds.
- Confirm pairing on both devices (vibration and confirmation request will appear on the bracelet).
If the bracelet is not present, try:
- ๐ Reboot Bluetooth on your phone (turn off/on).
- ๐ต Remove the bracelet from the list of conjugated devices in Bluetooth settings.
- ๐ Reload the bracelet (on the Mi Band) 4/5 press the touch button on 10 seconds).
โ ๏ธ Attention: On Honor 9A firmware EMUI 10.1 may trigger battery optimization that blocks Mi Fitness background work. To avoid this, add the application to the list of Secure Applications (Settings) โ Annexes โ Mi Fitness โ Battery โ Secure applications).
Step 4: Set up notifications and basic functions
After successful connection, we will configure the key parameters:
1. Notifications from the phone

- ๐ด Sleep tracking (including deep and superficial sleep phases).
- ๐ Stepmer (set your goal by steps per day).
Important: For accurate pulse measurement, the bracelet must fit snugly to the wrist (no more than 1 cm clearance). On the Mi Band 6/7, SpO2 (blood oxygen saturation) measurement is available, but this requires the latest firmware version.
3. Alarm clocks and reminders
To set the vibration alarm:
- In the app, select Alarms โ Add an alarm clock.
- Specify the time, days of the week and the type of vibration.
- Activate the Smart Alarm if you want to wake up in light sleep.

- Open Mi Fitness and go to Profile โ Your Device โ Firmware Update.
- If an update is available, click Download and Install.
Warning: Don't interrupt the upgrade process! On the Mi Band 6/7, this can lead to a "brick" of the bracelet (loss of performance). If the upgrade is suspended, wait for the battery to discharge to 0% and try again.
3. Resetting the bracelet to factory settings
If the bracelet is unstable, reset:
- On the bracelet, go to Settings โ Reset (on Mi Band 4/5 path: Additional โ Reset).
